Watching Below Deck the other night, one of the stewardess' wasn't sure how to lay a table and had to be shown. You would wonder how someone who is meant to be a high level waitress gets to that position without learning how to set a table. Thats someone who works in the industry.

Watching episode 3 now (the buy certain items task), always one of my favourites. I am going to echo a comment up above that this generation don't know basic tasks.

Reading out what their list was, many had no idea what many of the things were. Not surprising if you are in Dubai or Cairo, but they're in Stratford upon Avon FFS. One guy had never heard of a rhubarb. Another didn't know that a fleece comes from a sheep. So, I'm more confident now that one of them would not know how to lay a table.

Baroness Brady: How did they not know 18-carat was expensive?

And how did that guy not know what a pocket watch is??

My theory on why a lot of younger people seem more clueless these days is because they grew up as the internet generation. It allowed them to curate their browsing experience to solely what they're interested in. Whereas older generations would be exposed to whatever happened to be on tv in the sitting room with their parents, often bored by it, but passively absorbing information, they're up in their room on their phones watching YouTube/TikToks where the algorithm feeds them more and more of their narrow set of interests.

Watching the latest episode(Corporate away day, usually one of my favourites) and after about 20 minutes I had to skip to the boardroom because it was turning out so cringe. Jeez, where do I start?

Did someone say they were getting wine at 60 euro a bottle? In Türkiye? Ive been there many times and wine, good wine at that is cheap as chips.

One team had lots of warm white wine, the other team had 4 bottles of wine for 10 people on a corporate away day. As it turns out, the team with the 4 bottles of wine lost due to refunds.

The laying of the table. At least she had the self awareness to ask for help. The one who declined to help her was at fault. If someone said they weren't confident laying a table, you should listen to them. Go up, show them how to set one place, and tell them to do 9 more like that. I know it's not rocket science, most of us could do a decent job, but if someone doesnt know and asks for help, they should be given help.

Great post. That certainly is a factor. Another factor I would suggest is the changes in the home. Many families dont sit down together for dinner any more, and so don't get into the habit of laying the table. Growing up, we always did so I could lay a table in my sleep but many don't any more.

A number of years ago I was at a Christmas party for a group I was involved with and there was a guy, about my age who didn't know how to use a knife and fork. He said in his house they only ate takeaways which you eat with your hands.

    Jordan is a poor PM.

I think Apmber Rose will sink him if they lose the task.

Jordan looked poor at first, but I think he likely won them the task in the end? The quiz part seemed to be the part they liked the most, and that was all his idea.

Matter of time before Jordan gets fired. He's far too beligerent with a strangely temperamental attitude so I think he got a bit lucky today that the other team was so bad.

I think Dean can count himself very very lucky to avoid being fired today. Dreadful - but again, others were simply more dreadful.

Felt a bit bad for Melica getting dragged into the firing line. It was quite weird in hindsight. Lord Sugar stopped the "bring three back" process because (it seemed) she was picked and then immediately ragged on her afterwards.

    Fun watch though!

He was out of his depth, Amber Rose was basically running the task.

    He is on borrowed time.

    Watching it now.

Bit of a meh episode. I don't like these creative tasks. Creating a banking app for kids. I had to laugh at the ~7 year old telling them it looks too babyish meanwhile, the PM is practically addicted to playing the game.

Amber Rose definitely carried Jordan through that task. I don't think he's long for this world to be honest. Or process I should say.

"What's the story " says Jordan when he answers the phone.

Probably not the response Sugars secretary usually gets when she calls someone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 539 ✭✭✭derb12

I missed that bit but thought the task overall was shambolic. The no winners result was the only fair one and the two fired were absolutely useless. The first one fired (can’t remember her name) was actively hindering them and the second one just did nothing! I watched you’re fired for the first time in ages and I thought that the 2nd one was actually very gracious, saying it wouldn’t have been fair if the others on her team were fired ahead of her as they were better candidates. A refreshing change from the usual deluded bragging.

I grow my own chillies and have made my own sauces in the past, so were I a candidate, that task would have been right up my alley.

I recently bought the Abrakebabra "Ultimate" chilli sauce and to me, on the Scoville scale it was one step up from regular ketchup. Very disappointing. I like my spicy sauce like this:

Edit: Oh no. Team 2 ran out of time so dont have the product in the ad! Facepalm. Meanwhile team 1's advert sounds like 2 girls having an orgasm in a prison cell. Im predicting a multiple firing.

Hey hey! It's Levi Roots! He knows his stuff and he didn't like the sauce.

Johnny that was fired a few weeks ago has a tiktok account that I came across the other day.

Seems to be a decent likeable chap.

Most people who get into the programme have endearing or positive characteristics. Indeed most people when they appear on You're Fired, seem like nice people. I suspect the editing goes to show certain traits for entertainment purposes. Something I wish they would stop doing.

There's a lot of them staying in the background for tasks so as to avoid blame for poor decisions, you would hardly even know they were taking part in the task until you see them in the boardroom. I do like next week's task, the shopping channel slot, it's a proper measurable task as to which team wins.

If I had to name 3 that I think will form part of the interviews episode I'd say Mia, Dean and Max.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,195 ✭✭✭✭Galwayguy35

He probably won't make it that far but if Jordan walked into the interview with Claude Littner and said "whats the story " it would be comedy gold.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,567 ✭✭✭✭LambshankRedemption

I really dislike the TV Shopping channel episode, but so be it.

There's a lot of them staying in the background for tasks so as to avoid blame for poor decisions, you would hardly even know they were taking part in the task until you see them in the boardroom.

Emma who got fired last night. I honestly dont remember seeing her before. After 8 episodes, Ive only started learning some of the names and have given up trying to learn the team names. Emma, I can't remember her being involved in anything. So no loss.

Assuming her business plan and interview are not total crap, I expect Amber Rose to win. Shes, cute(which does matter), she's smart and resourceful.

To be honest, no-one else really stands out for me.

You can read about their businesses here

    This was Aoibheann’s:
I have designed a unique patented utility belt specifically for hairdressers, makeup artists, and costume designers on the go. In my experience within the beauty and hair industry, I noticed a significant problem: the tools that artists typically wear are often not functional, ergonomic, or aesthetically appealing, nor was there any focus on hygiene. This realisation drove me to create a tool belt that is not only ergonomic, but also enhances the entire creative process.

A patented utility for hairdressers? Sounds like she should have gone on Dragons Den not The Apprentice.

Max obviously had to go tonight, but Liam should’ve gone in a double firing, he was brutal on screen and just chose himself so he could ‘Have a go at it’.

The highlight for me was Chisola and Amber-Rose over excited reactions to absolute tat.

Candidates are a bit boring this season tbh, I wish Carlos “Rapport” was still in it, he was properly deluded.

Still I’ll finish it out. Mia in pole position for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,355 ✭✭✭✭Exclamation Marc

Yeah I think Mia is the front-runner.

Max was fairly bad this episode and his teams product selection was atrocious.

Liam was easily the worst this week though. He has Mia to thank for still being in it and I can't see him hanging around much longer.

I thought Jordan did well this week in the control room but I still think his attitude is going to catch up with him at some point.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 539 ✭✭✭derb12

I just watched it there. I always love the telesales episode. I’d say it’s much harder than it looks. Liam was lucky the other team were so bad - he was the worst of the 8 and totally deluded. Jordan wasn’t bad today but it looks like he is PM next week so that’ll be interesting. Glad to see the back of max.

The tv shopping is not broadcast right? It pretend like “Sainsbury’s order 75k of your peach and egg soup “. Has to be.

Max's business idea, Paddle Tennis, as mentioned on You're Fired, will probably turn out to be a lot better than most of the half-baked ideas that get through to the Final 5.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 539 ✭✭✭derb12

I’m pretty sure it’s real. Probably 15 mins of broadcast time tops.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 539 ✭✭✭derb12

Which just shows the stupidity of the “new” format ever since the apprentice is no longer given a job. Tim might not be where he is today if he had had to come up with his own business plan for branded cupcakes or whatever.

This might make you feel old! The 'new' format (from Job to Investment) happened 12 series ago (series 7, 2011).
