There's no possibility of the red being recinded. Get it out of your head.

I'd assume that Musgrave will need to keep their 3 games with the income from the sponsored name so if my maths are right the Thomond season ticket will have 7 games next season

    Ouch

    fair enough.

i was just going through stuff menatlly, to get us past the LaR game…

we definitely need a few bodies back on the pitch… especially if Nanks is gone.

Just seen this now. Can't see it being a long term thing as the game is so hard to watch down there. Fans to far from the play. If your in either terrace it's worse.

I think the extra bodies in the gate, it being cork as well means it will happen regularly enough and i went to a game there and was in one of end terraces and didnt find it that bad. No issue as was high enough up and at a barrier so no blockage of our viewpoint at any stage.

I found the terrace steps uncomfortably narrow compared to those in Thomond or Musgrave, but other than that the view was fine.

They'll need obviously need a better big screen setup though.

But there's nothing they can do about the PITA walk from the city.

I found it terrible for the crusaders game. And I was on the halfway line.

Also a PITA for 10yr ticket holders.

That walk is a killer if you need to hop in a car and hit the road. Would the mrsc bus bring you to the stadium or closer

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 118 ✭✭Ruginator

Crap decision from Munster. The stadium is is mediocre for rugby. Terraces behind the goals miles back might as well it in a local bar. The stands are also far to far back for rugby. Been to both rugby games atmosphere was dire enough. The lack of functional screen is a disaster as well for the rugby. Cannot understand why we would change. I don't see Thomond Park selling out for Heineken Cup games at present. I think the novelty of games down the Pairc has worn thin. Cork GAA have their own debt to pay off. Munster should be concentrating on Thomond Park.

La Rochelle beaten again today! Munster have nothing to fear next week and strong performances today means we will be a confident side! O'mahony will relish this, Crowley has been listening to Rog talking up Sam all 6N....so many sideshows and an expectant Munster crowd....O Gara saying Munster role was more or less beneath him....its going to be one heck of a game!!

Agreed about the view. I can walk to the stadium from my house but it doesn't excite me one bit to watch a game there. I'll still obviously go but I always come back to thinking that Cork should have built a community stadium that would facilitate rugby and soccer also.

Munster (in fact none of the provinces) can afford to turn their noses up to the extra money from hosting an odd game at a larger venue

Connacht made an absolute fortune out of today and you can be sure it's not their last trip to a larger stadium in the province

An idle Thomond, pays more debt off it when a commercially successful deal can be done with the GAA.

If all things were equal, going forward every single year there should be one provincial derby or one Euro Pool match held in PUC, at least until the appetite in Cork dies down a bit.

I know from experience that in my workplace there have been many soccer/GAA fans bragging about getting tickets to the rugby, so keep it going and it will be profitable for Munster.

Anyone that doesn’t like the stadium can stay at home and watch it on the telly, safe in the knowledge that their ticket will be bought by someone else in a sell out crowd.

I get why... but it's an awful stadium for a match like that, I'll see nearer the time and who the opposition is but I've been twice and really don't fancy heading back.

My only issue (well main issue ) is the walk to /from the stadium on a dark evening, it's terrible and seeing that they actually close the road to vehicular traffic I think they should run buses from inside to barriers to/from the stadium. Create a bus lane with barriers to keep pedestrian off it for getting fans back towards the city after the game if necessary.

We're spoilt having rugby stadiums in Ireland, other countries share their stadia with other sports and are used to being further away from the sidelines.

The biggest tragedy in Cork is the lack of development in Musgrave. Considering the fan base its a disgrace really and someone should be held accountable. I remember going there for Christians matches in the 80s. It hasn't changed one iota!! (Apart from a glistening pitch that's blinding to look at)

Cork follows hurling and rugby like no other county yet we are always the poor relation when it comes to facilities. There's a failure happening somewhere that this continues.

Perhaps M Martin might address it before he retires

If it goes ahead, I'll stop getting a season ticket. No interest in watching rugby in a GAA stadium to pander to a few fair weather fans.

But if all Munster rugby care about is getting as much money as possible from people without considering the loyal, turn out every week fans no matter what the weather types - then I'll not bother with a season ticket anymore and turn up occasionally too when it suits me.

    Lack of development?

A brand new stand and the East Terrace has been covered.

    What consideration would you like?

Munster has a bigger and wider fan base than just those in a position to able to attend thomond park for every home game.

Turn out every week no matter the weather just not in a GAA stadium.

I guess we have a different understanding of loyal

    You said lack of development.

I think MR did try to increase the capacity and were refused planning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,897 ✭✭✭✭Red Silurian

If it works financially for them, yes it will definitely happen every year, no question in my mind, and while it is annoying, we're a professional club so if Munster make more money off it it could be good for us

I'm not sure they do make much more money off it or if those 19,000 extra people make up for the GAA fee, the sponsorship, hospitality, food/booze lost. Maybe it does, that's very much a result for the accountancy team at Munster to come to

I guess we will find out in December and I'm interested to see how it works for the 10yr ticket holders

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,856 ✭✭✭snotboogie

Bit ridiculous calling other fans fair weather when you’d cancel your season ticket for being inconvenienced for a single competitive game. 10 Cork players in the 23 today suggests that Cork is contributing more than its fair share to Munster rugby.

He's a freak, must be the most powerful player we've ever produced. Insane try scoring rate as well as everything else

Criminally underrated, that montage shows he's far more than just bruiser too. Great hands as well and a breakdown threat. Should have far more ireland caps

Munster will have LAR coming in a very poor state, one win in 8 and the coach hanging on by his fingertips.

Back in the day the Thomond season ticket used to be 10 games, 7 Pro14 and 3 European, it's been slowly eroded away over the years but this is a big one

It amounts to a massive kick in the teeth to the fans who show up week-in-week-out to appease a minority of supporters. So yeah, ouch

I'm not sure if I'll renew my own season ticket this year, we will see what deal is on offer
