Honda Fit/ Jap import parts availability

Hi all,

We are considering buying a 2014 Honda Fit Japanese import.

Does anyone know if parts are available for this model in Ireland in the event it needs repairs in the future. I don't think the hybrid model was ever sold in Ireland.

Parts are readily available from motor factors here, but I think @Hellrazer has raised concerns about gearbox availability in the event of a gearbox failure

Its the clutch packs that had issues on availability - Japan only supply so between 8 -12 weeks - Only on the GP5 though - A 2014 should be a GP1 which dont give any problems with the CVT box.

No worries with anything else really as Jazz / Fit stuff usually interchanges.

2014 is the newer shape GP5 as far as I can tell. Is this a common issue and is it much of a job to repair?

My x got stung with a 2013 jazz 1,3 hybred sitting on 150,000 km .Needed a engine ,These yokes not as bullet prove as some folk make out …Be very carefull

Most parts are fine to get, you have the odd part that's a pain though.

We had an accord in a few months ago with a leaking brake master cylinder that was completely unobtainium: main dealer, any motor factors, winparts etc couldn't be got. Eventually found one Japanese site that had new old stock but it took weeks and cost €€€

2014 could be either GP1 or GP5 - Thats when the change over was - The only real way to tell is the VIN.

Its a bit of a pain of a job to do but if I remember right you dont have to take the box out to do them.

Wrong engine oil used - Id be 99% sure of that. Honda hybrids use special Honda only oil - Its actually called Honda Hybrid oil. The factors will sell you 0w20 which is NOT correct despite what they tell you. The oil is almost like a 0w15 - its like water.

Wrong oil blocks the oil return rings on the pistons and does the engine in.

Serviced correctly they will literally go forever.

@Hellrazer - my folks have a Honda Fit with the CVT box (2011). Their usual garage has been taken over by a new mechanic who is insisting that the CVT oil doesn't need to be changed in them. I'm fairly certain, from reading the Honda manuals, that it does (and they've already bought the specific Honda oil to do it). Your man is spouting bullshit is he? Always appreciate reading your posts here btw, very knowledgeable!

Absolutely hes bullshitting you - CVT oil is due every 40k - Officially its every 40k or two years whichever comes first.

I do my own Insight every 3rd service (30-35K depending on when I get around to it) just to be sure I havent forgotten.

Do Honda dealers stock the gearbox oil and Honda hybrid engine oil?

Left a deposit on a Fit today. I wanted to get the gearbox serviced straight away as per your recommendation.

They usually do - Honda Hybrid oil - You`ll need 4 litres - I always buy an extra litre for top ups - not that unusual for them to use a half litre between services.

If its a GP1 -CVt fluid - 4 litres. If its a GP5 the fluid is DW1 and you`ll need 2-3 litres.
