Grundfos negative head pump pressure issues

    Hi all

We git our bathroom renovated about 18months ago and they installed a new grundfos stn 2.0b negative head pump. From the word go it has never been as good as our old pump but lately it's gone very bad at supplying hot water to the bathroom. The shower takes a while for hot to come through and then it's very sensitive to temp change. The bath then is very bad when hot is selected, it's one of those blade type taps and there is barely a dribble when it's just hot water, no issue with cold supply from same pump...

Any ideas on where I could look before I call grundfos or the bathroom crowd?

You say its sensitive to HW temperature change, normally a sign of cavitation, can you run it, both hot& cold sides via separate non mixer taps until the HW cylinder starts running likewarm/cold then compare both flowrates.

Have you checked pump strainer(s), also, if possible, post a schematic of how the hot supply is supplied, from the HW cylinder take off right to the pump.

All taps in bathroom are mixer style taps.

I turned off pump last night, disconnected shower hose and ran cold on full and then hot on full. Powered on pump then after a few minutes and it has improved anyways.

    Will check strainers next.

Don't have a schematic but there's basically a direct feed from the top of hw cylinder into the pump, only thing on that line is a lever isolation valve which is fully open

This is the recommended method of installing it but check your inlet strainer anyway, also check that the HW cylinder vent isn't dipping down into the water in the cold water storage cistern.

    Thanks John

It is piped from the top of the cylinder like the picture.

Yes, but the issue that can arise with high performance pumps is that air is sucked by the pump through the vent which rises vertically from the cylinder and hangs over into the cold water storage tank. This would cause the symptoms you describe.

    This might cure it………
