@cathy427 Go into tuner setup and see if they have it listed as mentioned in the specs Client Mode and enter the details of the Master box you want to use.

If it works i would leave that image on box and get so many more options from the box that you wont get from OpenVix.

This is the box, the heading on the thread is wrong but OCTAGON don't make it easy. SE is the give away. wos would say if it was dual boot.

Octagon SX88 SE V2 WL H.265 HEVC HD Multi-stream Digital Satellite + IPTV Receiver with WiFi

And by looking at them you can only tell by H265 on the SE and dual boot os on the other.

    Thanks so much everyone.

Thanks so so much swoofer and thanks for getting the thread back on track when it goes to advice on a

    different version of the box.

That link didn't work but on a search that's just over €120 delivered. Is that the one you meant?

Have you ever come across a box that would work and that has fairly low height that would be neat behind a wall mounted tv? As you said in one of the replies the one I got on tiny but being the 265 version rather than dual it's not the one I needed.

    Thanks so much again.

Footie again but did you get a signal via the jack? I would need to know if tv in kitchen is hdmi capable and what would be your ideal. I use a vu+ duo box that has scart out and then into a modulator etc.

The box I pointed is bigger and a lot more.

Say again what you want to achieve and I may have an option but say everything.

@cathy427 did you read my previous post?

The problem is the box is aimed at german market and OP was banking on Vix, as its a totally new box it may not be user friendly but you are right it must have menus like setup, network but I think when setup a whole load of apps will appear.

Andy is good on networks and does not hold out much hope.

I know on vix if I go network utilities I can see MiniDLNA and it has a slot for DLNA and so has new box but you need to know what to do although it may be obvious. And it may not be compatible with Openvix.

    Its worth a try.

Yes as i have multiple boxes all running Openvix and networked , if i only needed a client box i have a Vu Zero now running on Client mode.

I think Client Mode is whats needed most and if box cannot use OpenVix is worth a try.

Never even looked up what is MiniDLNA is or used for 😂

If @cathy427 box lists Client Mode it will be better i think?

I must have your head fried. Enjoy the football and I can get this sorted over next few days.

Should have came back to you on the jack. When inlaws (in waiting) heard we were leaving sky they also left and couldn't be persuaded to wait a few weeks and see how we got on.

They had same set up as us. Got the jack working but pic quality not great. Their 2nd tv had smart iptv built in and I paid the €5.50 and added zgemma channel list to that. Only got epg for 75% of channels and buffers during matches (using powerline adapters) and weirdly and madly when downloading channel list it kept missing the first channel on the list - which happened to be rte 1. Anyway they ok for moment.

    .......

Our set up. Kitchen tv is led hd also has a scart imput. I was happy with rf2 from sky hd box but not happy with jack on other box.

Want the channels from the zgemma, and epg and be able to hide box behind tv so room to play with in terms of length and width but be trying to keep height as low as possible. Box under discussion is only 2.5cm so seemed ideal!!! Is under 3.5 or 4 realistic?

    I think that's everything.

Am ..... explained the tuners already but given the help I was just coming on with pics to answer that but the private message saying you have been asking for hours on top of those messages was a bit ott and comes across as passive aggressive.

Edit I am really grateful for people trying to help

Only trying to help you out to see if there was another way of seeing if Client mode could be used , did not meant to be aggressive in helping in helping out

Must have missed the tuner if you posted info on it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 530 ✭✭✭cathy427

Thanks again. Can I just check which one you are looking at.

This one is 75 (no wifi)

    This one is 79

    This one is 78.79

This one is 92 (and has wifi stick)

The last one has no reviews.

The others have differing numbers of reviews so can distinguish them that way as well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,819 ✭✭✭swoofer

it was the 75 one . Just be sure. I think you use powerline and one I saw had lan.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 530 ✭✭✭cathy427

    Spot on thank you.

Ya was wondering would I get lan and wifi just to have the option (if the wifi worked etc, normal disclaimer! 😊 )

Very confusing when reading the Octagon review on Amazon for that box and says

Experience your content in crisp Full HD resolution at 60 frames per second (1920 x 1080 pixels) with the OCTAGON SX88 SE V2 WL HD H.265 S2+IP Receiver. The box supports the SX88 SE V2 WL HD H.265 IP E2TV Multiroom TV Client System for Enigma2 devices and decodes content in the HEVC/H.265 standard. In addition to standards such as H.264 and AVS, it supports almost all video, audio and image formats.

greaspalm I can see your logic , andy says no good but over on Techkings this

"IP E2TV Multiroom TV Client System for Enigma2 devices is an app and when you open it up you get the facility to enter IP from Zgemma H7S and the rest, then do a reboot and it may import channel data and bouquets.

However, I doubt it, I think it may stream the current channel but it would need to be tested and is it worth it if the other box can use openvix, price is about the same and size.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,946 ✭✭✭greasepalm

Ahh so its an App in use and not a configuration of the tuner.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 530 ✭✭✭cathy427

Yes ye bet me too it. That's exactly it.

It's more a smart iptv app than a client mode.

So you put in address of main box.

It copied over the bouquets. I have the saorview copied into a bouquet with the UK channels and it missed the first channel.

It's not showing an epg and no access to recordings etc. Changing channel is painfully slow. Fastest way is to click out of app and back in and select new channel.

In terms of tuners it seems semi locked down.

Edit - will check those in a bit, think they might be in wrong order and I have missed one and put one up twice instead.

That would drive me nuts but thanks for posting. Don't mess too much in case you muck up box. I assume you can return it and as its in the EU its easy peasy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 530 ✭✭✭cathy427

    Thanks.

Ya it's even a struggle to see how to reset the app to remove the url of the main box from the app as settings for the app stopped being available once I entered the details.

    No biggie.

Ya going to see can I return.

Thanks again for finding the other box.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,946 ✭✭✭greasepalm

I had assumed you could get into the tuner settings and seen Client mode , thats a lot of sats in there and thinking used in a motorised dish or multiple lnbs setup.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,946 ✭✭✭greasepalm

Missed post 41 saying tv has a scart connection , but does it have a hdmi connection and Hd ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 530 ✭✭✭cathy427

cathy, you are using this box

    OCTAGON SX88 V2 4K UHD S2+IP 5G Wi-Fi 1xDVB-S2 Enigma 2 DUAL OS Linux Smart TV Sat Receiver

for client mode but then you went to access recordings on the other box and you are using powerline.

The more tasks you set box for the more likely it will struggle. What speed do you get on the powerline, plug in laptop? How fast is your broadband, is it fibre to the home? What is the make of the router? Can you get any wi fi in kitchen.

Your initial setup was sky hd and using rf out to TV in kitchen so it has an analogue tuner.

You can get a wi fi extender that will boost signal and could benefit others. I got this for friend in Dec 23 for 40 euro but dear now.

TP-Link RE550 AC1900 Gigabit Mesh WiFi Range Extender-Wi-Fi Booster-WiFi Repeater, 3 External Antennas, Intelligent Signal Light,WiFi Extender Booster, Power Schedule,LED Control,Easy Setup, UK Plug

That HDMI extender is a bit OTT.

    Have you a firestick?

    How old are the powerline?
