This needs to stop ASAP. The public don't support this expenditure in the slightest. Only a small minority do.

I'm on the verge of a site ban. Please don't rage bait me, I'm easily triggered especially late at night!

I think it's perfectly relevant as it is a tactic that the anti-immigrant parties use, to not only to persecute immigrants but divide them (and their children too). They need immigrants for the economy so they court the hard working, tax paying immigrants and demonise the others as leaches and other dehumanising terms.

Apologies, just catching up with the thread and seen that my last post should have been on another thread. Can Mods move my last post please?

Are both Thurles ones cancelled? Great news if so. I was reading there were two new centres going into the town.

    A big relief

    https://tippfm.com/news/local-tds-confirm-plans-for-ipas-centre-not-going-ahead-in-thurles/

Mitchell Street in Thurles will not be getting an IPAS accommodation centre, according to two TDs in Tipperary North who say they’ve gotten assurances from the Department of Integration.

There was widespread local condemnation of the proposal after it emerged this week that a ‘Section 5’ planning exemption had been granted for a former furniture showroom on Mitchell Street.

The developer Kilbrin Homes intended to convert the building to house up to 81 asylum seekers.

Thurles TD Michael Lowry says the owner of the site on Mitchell Street has now withdrawn the offer to become an IPAS centre.

This is why Lowry is king in North Tipp. He is the king maker and I'm annoyed he's not in South Tipp so can do something about Dundrum

We can only hope this madness with the IPAS centers will stop

So much for no community having a veto on these. Turns out all a community needs is a dodgy politician.

I see the black paddy was interviewed on O'Connell street and voice support for the problem with immigration debate. Everyone can see it at this stage tbh it's not even a debate. The only debate is what to do with it.

How does paying for car repairs for Ukrainians with our money protect them from Putin?

Would any of the crazy lefties in FF, FG like to explain that one?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,727 ✭✭✭Mr. teddywinkles

Wish they pay for my repairs due to lack of road maintenance in my area

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,767 ✭✭✭tom23

I’d really like if the journal Fact Check actually checked this out to see if they are getting cars fixed at the Irish Taxpayers expense. they should be paying road tax and putting their cars through NCT. I could imagine myself rocking up to social welfare asking them for assistance in a car repair as I’m paying through my nose for everything else. I’d be laughed out the door. At this stage we actually are like leprechauns, because this country and leprechauns exist in a magical fantasy.

The thing with the Exceptional Needs Payment is that it is reliant upon the discretion of the Community Welfare Officer. So while I am sure that there are Ukrainians out there who got money for car repairs this would be far from common. Just like there were no doubt asylum seekers getting money for new prams (the old dumped at a bus stop story) and Travellers getting money for communion dresses these would be rare instances that grow legs the more people hear about them.

Now some sort of audit to see how common these instances are would be interesting.

…”There was widespread local condemnation of the proposal after it emerged this week that a ‘Section 5’ planning exemption had been granted for a former furniture showroom on Mitchell Street”….

The planning changes made by minister DO’Brien in 2023 for ipa refugee accommodation was a slap in the face to local communities. The owners of any property qualifying under the new rules don’t care how locals are affected or impacted by the loss of social amenities, they want their slice of the billions. Disgraceful decision by a person elected to serve and protect the citizens of this country.

If there is possibility to scam a system that gives free money, human beings will find it. Doesn't matter what nationality they are. The scheme currently in the news, arises when our naivety and caring nature is manipulated by those who, we are constantly told are coming here for genuine reasons.

People have been conditioned into believing that everything about immigration is amazing and there are no negative side effects, afraid to rock the boat, because if they speak out they'll be rounded on.

Thankfully we're entering a time when it's finally more acceptable to be a dissenting voice. People are pushing back.

It is true. A car is seen as essential when no public transport around. Eligible applicants are granted something towards repair as an Additional Needs Payment. Maybe ask your local TD to submit a PQ - Peadar Toibin did ask how much ANP granted to IPAs, he got no answer

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 930 ✭✭✭maik3n

I'm not sure that we need any fact checking at this stage.
Have we not come to the realisation already that they are probably availing of the Additional Needs Payment, which they along with every other Irish person on social welfare, are entitled to apply for?

So you could very easily rock up to the dole office and ask for car repairs. Your Community Welfare Officer may well laugh you out of the room but there is also a good chance that they could say Yes.

So contrary to the anti-immigrant/racis… crowds whinging, it's not a case of the Ukrainian Refugees getting free car repairs because Ireland is now such a woke/liberal utopia.

It's been a good few days since the video of the mechanic talking about DSP funding car repairs went viral. TheJournal.ie are very quick to 'debunk' a whole claim if there is even a whiff of exaggeration to a claim. Safe to say there's alot of truth to the claim for TheJournal not to touch it with a barge pole.

Geez it's bad when the immigrants themselves are bemoaning the amount of immigrants in Ireland.

Simon Harris would gladly tell you that he's proud of what Ireland has done for Ukrainians and that we will do more. He's a great guy for spending our taxes on anyone but us.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,313 ✭✭✭RoyalCelt

Black paddy said he's been in Ireland 24 year's so if he has kids he probably realises how the completely unreasonable levels of immigration are going to negatively effect their lives going forward. He also clarified that comments he made such as "we're taking over" and "there won't be any white people" left were either done in gest and as he put it "just look around you".

No surprise. RTE Radio did Vox Pop's in London pre-Brexit and asked a Vietnamese guy who'd claimed Asylum in the 1970's would he vote Yes or No on Brexit. He said Yes chiefly because of too much immigration to the UK.

Similar reasoning - it'd hamper Quality of Life of his kids and grandkids.

No just keep adding an infinite amout of people to limited resourced country.

    What could ever go wrong.

They're cutting 10000 civil servants shortly. Thats the start.

    Blame brexit all you want.

    A very good post.

A huge problem in this debate is that people are so binary it's either immigration good or immigration bad in too many people's minds. There is little room for nuance and those on the margins keep stifling proper discussion.

It should be perfectly possible to advocate accommodating people who were bombed out of their homes in Donetsk, but not accommodating in any way those who destroyed their passports on flights into Ireland.

    This.

Brass neckers everywhere who will.push it to the limit and milk the system, not so much to do with immigration and more to do with the human condition .

But not everyone availing of supplementary payments is milking the system .

Community Welfare Officers exist to help people where situations are extremely tight .

Thing is your average person either won't go to them or will try to get assistance elsewhere , family friends etc .

This is where immigrants who have no family supports behind them are forced to look for supplementary welfare .

Michael Martin disagrees and says the majority are economic migrants

Anyone with half a brain, including the immigrants already here trying to find places to buy or rent know we can’t build our way out of the current and projected population increases.

    https://www.rte.ie/news/business/2024/0815/1464985-population-growth-exceeds-home-delivery-by-almost-4-to-1/

Hopefully common sense prevails, and we look at ways at scaling back immigration (NOT STOPPING IT). before some unpredictable populist politician is eventually given a chance to swing the pendulum way in the other direction.
