I would be absolutely devastated if I expressed a simple opinion and it backfired and this horror turned up to support me. Morto.

This actually sounds delusional. People love to blame the far/loony left around here. Despite the fact that the country has been run by a center right cabal since the foundation of the state.

It's laughable that a far left bogeyman is being blamed, when FFG are running the country forever.

I love how these people frame immigration in the context of empathy. It’s nothing to do with empathy. It’s a business transaction that should always favour the host nation, Ireland in this case.

Jim O’Callaghan has already called out that up to 80% of IPAs are economic migrants. They are not legitimate asylum seekers. These are duplicitous individuals seeking to subvert our asylum process. They should be dealt with accordingly.

Frankly, I couldn’t care less what Garron Noone or Conor McGregor have to say about immigration. The facts are that most ostensible IPAs have no genuine claim to asylum here, non-EU migration is a net drain on the economies of EU nations, to the tune of billions, and uncontrolled inward migration has had an overwhelmingly negative impact on some of neighbours, with Sweden being the prime example.

It’s time for our government to take action. Poll after poll confirms that the majority of Irish people believe immigration levels are too high. Listen to the people and fix the issue. Tax-paying citizens shouldn’t have to rely on ex-MMA fighters or social media ‘celebrities’ to articulate and to have their concerns taken seriously by a government, who let’s not forget, were elected by those very same Irish citizens.

He said that the government are stopping people from talking about things. This is an outrageous and factually incorrect statement. It is also straight out of the far right play book. It **** on the democratic mandate given, by the people, to our fairly elected representatives.

We have elections every 5 years or so and people are free to vote however they wish. There were numerous far right candidates looking for a Dáil seat - none were elected.

Noone is a grown adult claiming "the govt" is stopping people from talking - while he is freely expressing his (factually incorrect) opinions to all and sundry.

    Quote:

"…the Government continually does not allow people to express their concerns about that…"

Maybe he thinks the public should be allowed to burn down hotels and immigration centres

McGregor was right in everything he said over in America.

Martin and Harris are just ignoring the problem.

This is precisely that kind of hyperbolic and idiotic rubbish that stifles any possibility of a reasonable discussion. Go you!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,374 ✭✭✭✭suvigirl

Can you point out what he said that was correct and back it up with some actual stats?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,221 ✭✭✭✭Akrasia

I was just trying to think of the only form of anti immigrant speech that the government has banned...

Anyone who's worked with people with anxiety here will understand your point. We don't want them getting even more anxiety worrying about just talking in the first place.

It was probably a big step for him to make the comments the way he did and due to his anxiety he probably put a lot of thought into how he said it.

Garron is a champion of the people and we all need to support him when he regains his confidence and returns.

Well said. The oceanic gulf between the words of the ‘be kind’ brigade and vitriol they pour on those who even mildly disagree with their ideology, is blatantly obvious for all to see.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,199 ✭✭✭✭Galwayguy35

No I don't think I will because I've no interest in getting into a back and forth with you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,379 ✭✭✭archfi

    Well, that's not correct.

If you mention immigration in only completely imaginary positive ways wrapped up in suicidal empathy/be kind crap (a la State approved) like Liam Cunningham, Christy Moore, Imelda May etc etc and almost the whole of Hollywood you are granted column upon column of newspaper space, radio space, tv space, magazine space with not a word questioned.

Have a question or two or an opinion that doesn't align with the above, well yes, career possibly in danger and scathing opposition/smearing/association pieces in papers, radio, tv etc

A thing isn't what it says it is.

A thing is what it does.

Has anyone in government commented on Garron, as there was comments on Conor

I know opposition TDs have commented (SF, Aontu and Independents)

And you're certainly a great example to follow if 'reasonable discussion' is the goal

why would they? the comments on mcgregor were in the context of him having been invited to the white house spouting his bullshit days after MM was there.

no such comparable context exists with noone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,374 ✭✭✭✭suvigirl

No, You won't because you can't. McGregor went to the Whitehouse and spotted a load of nonsense (dangerous nonsense)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,017 ✭✭✭jackboy

It's not really appropriate for any politician to comment as Garron has not given a statement on his reasons for leaving social media.

Is the “be kind” brigade, a new name for the “woke”, previously known as the “PC brigade”?

I find all this name calling juvenile

The reason for the increased violence is down to the Kinahans being disassembled, once you take out the big fish every other little scumbag wants their piece and move in to fill the void.

You mean the way people who are screaming that what he said was wrong have done?

Ehhh. Cos I haven't seen that happening, at all. And to my mind that's where the onus lies first - on the people who are part of the pile on against him, to show (without misquoting him) that what he said was dangerous lies, rather than fairly commonly-held opinion. The only bit I can see that's possibly wrong is "the government is not letting people speak" - but given how government-run media are acting, it's not entirely untrue either. And it's not long since the main human rights NGOs in the country banded together to ask elected representatives to make clear that they would refuse to represent the "wrong kind " of women. https://www.irishtimes.com/opinion/letters/nwci-and-freedom-of-speech-1.4595239

Seems very much like what Noone was saying, albeit for different reasons.

    Mod

This thread is suppose to be about Garron Noone not immigration, can we get back on topic please or I'm just gonna close it, Thanks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,640 ✭✭✭volchitsa

You mean it only began in 2020?

I don't think so. I remember it from way before that. Here's a film from 2018 about diversity, called "Be Kind" - and it was already well-known then. https://www.imdb.com/fr/title/tt9897528/

In any case, it almost never seems to be granted to women.
It's usually a demand made of women, by men.

Poor Caroline Flack was never going to be shown kindness.

Read the thread. I was asking a poster about McGregor.

I never mentioned what Garron did or didn't say.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,640 ✭✭✭volchitsa

The thread is about Garron Noone though. If you're off topic, that's hardly my problem.

    JP Liz V11:08 pm

Sorry that's when I really heard it, there was tshirts and merch for sale but you could be correct

Well, as I say it began well before that. The press and assorted others hounded Caroline Flack to her death and then immediately exploited it in a pretence of shock at what (everyone else, "not me guv") had done to her.

And much the same is at risk of happening to Garron Noone. IME it's the "be kind" people who never show kindness to others. They demand it for the people they approve of - but you only need to look at the comments above to see how little kindness Noone has got.

Nobody has been able to say what he said that was so awful - the best they can do is blame him for other people posting about him. Apparently he should be mortified that Katie Hopkins posted him a message telling him to be kind to himself. His sin being that Hopkins was nice to/about him. 🙄

Do you really, Brian? You may be blithely unaware, but nobody is particularly interested in your value judgements. You just don’t enjoy this issue being discussed. Tough. You’ll need to get used to it.

The 'be kind' brigade are the people who have things like '#bekind' on their social media profiles but who are frequently toxic.
