Would I be wrong to ask if the model number chosen for the planned Boeing jet fighter [the F47] to replace the F22 is coincidental or what?

BBC are constantly talking about constitutional crisis in US with Trump admin ignoring and targeting judges

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,076 ✭✭✭aidanodr

    As I asked above:

From the US constitution .. is this where the real meaning of WE THE PEOPLE is going to be tested and acted on by the people to remove Trump and Co? To me its the only avenue now?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,400 ✭✭✭Wolf359f

To what end? No matter what the Supreme Court decides it's down to Congress to impeach and the Senate to convict in order to remove Trump from office. The numbers are simply not there.

Was thinking earlier, whenever the Jean E Carroll case comes up again, I'm pretty sure he's gonna abuse the system to target Carroll. I wouldn't be surprised if they're already working on an approach.

@Wolf359f The WE THE PEOPLE part in the constitution preamble holds great power. This describes it:

"Importantly, the Preamble declares who is enacting this Constitution—the people of “the United States.” The document is the collective enactment of all U.S. citizens. The Constitution is “owned” (so to speak) by the people, not by the government or any branch thereof. We the People are the stewards of the U.S. Constitution and remain ultimately responsible for its continued existence and its faithful interpretation."

    https://constitutioncenter.org/the-constitution/preamble/interpretations/37

One might interpret that as THE PEOPLE can revoke the powers of the government OR ANY BRANCH THEREOF.

So .. The Constitution affirms that the real power lies with the people. All branches of government don't mean anything if enough citizens put their power into action. They could take to the streets in their millions and demand a president be removed. Which may then behove & give permission to the USAs military and other rule of law entities to act on what WE THE PEOPLE decide.

    This too:

    https://www.governing.com/now/the-forgotten-meaning-of-we-the-people.html

Too many citizens and public officials have forgotten the meaning of "We the People." This has profound implications for democracy.

You mean they might try and take him out for a third time?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,911 ✭✭✭eire4

I would be shocked if he didn't look for a way to have the judgment against him outright overturned as well as targeting Carroll herself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,780 ✭✭✭threeball

I think it's far more likely that he turns the military on the people and a large cohort of that group will be happy to follow his orders.

Unfortunately I can easily see that happening.

Does 2 April also coincide with McGregor's threat where he specifically mentions '12 days'?

    Yes, perhaps.

Think it is likely the Trump admin. won't mention the EU at all on 2nd of April and regardless of what the Single Market (edit: and Customs Union) means in practice specific countries are going to be named + shamed and targetted by the US, possibly including Ireland.

If that happens it'll be a part of the US game to delegitimise and diminish the EU as an organisation by refusing to treat with it. The Conservative party Brexiteers in UK used to do that all the time when in power e.g. refusing to meet with EU officials, refusing to recognise the EU ambassador to the UK.

McGregor has been very loud + cocky, and IMO it's suggestive of what was said to him in private behind closed doors by the Trump cabinet members he met while there, and what this portends for Ireland's relationship with the US during the Trump admin.

Was an interesting article on his visit to Washington in IT (don't know if posted):

    https://www.irishtimes.com/politics/2025/03/21/how-conor-mcgregor-secured-his-meeting-with-donald-trump-in-the-oval-office/

While the Trump meeting may have been brief, McGregor spent the rest of the visit being ferried around the capital to meet its most powerful men. He held meetings with US secretary of defense Pete Hegseth, secretary of health Robert F Kennedy Jr, national security adviser Mike Waltz and director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office Sergio Gor, among others.

It'll be a part of the US game to delegitimise and diminish the EU as an origanisation by refusing to treat with it. The Conservative party Brexiteers in UK used to do that all the time when in power e.g. refusing to meet with EU officials, refusing to recognise the EU ambassador to the UK.

Probably worth noting that this "strategy" failed abysmally.

there are meant to be three equal parts of government

But it’s quite clear Trump is **** on all that

Which is why I am amused by all the notions of “checks and balances”

Repeatedly when asked various legal experts the question of what separates Trump from a dictatorship and/or fascism they mention

    • If trump starts ignoring courts
    • If you start seeing Trump youth

He checked every other checkbox by now, highly recommend listening BBC Americast as they are following the developing constitutional crisis closely

Good news for the cats and dogs of Springfield Ohio 🙄, bad news for the self-sabotaging Latinos For Trump or whatever they called themselves

It was never about halting criminals, it was never about weapons or drugs, MAGAs aim is to put a halt to anyone merely Existing While Brown.

The Trump administration will be revoking the legal status of hundreds of thousands of Latin American and Haitian migrants welcomed into the U.S. under a Biden-era sponsorship process, urging them to self-deport or face arrest and removal by deportation agents.

The termination of their work permits and deportation protections under an immigration authority known as parole will take effect in late April, 30 days after March 25, according to a notice posted by the federal government.

The move will affect immigrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela who flew to the U.S. under a Biden administration program, known as CHNV, that was designed to reduce illegal immigration at the U.S.-Mexico border by giving would-be migrants legal migration avenues.

The Department of Homeland Security said it will seek the arrest and deportation of those subject to the policy change if they fail to depart the U.S. in the next 30 days. Officials are urging migrants to use the newly repurposed CBP Home smartphone app to register for self-deportation.

All them Cubans who voted repeatedly for Trump are getting to smell the leopard breath now as it munches on faces of their relatives and friends

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,780 ✭✭✭threeball

Alot of these people were stupid enough to vote for him. He's not directly killing anyone yet but he's having his own version of a final solution with his deportations

None of these people had a vote. They're not citizens, they just had legal residency permits.

They're victims of this monster, not the ones to blame

Plenty of them had votes. He's not just going after illegals. Once you're beyond a certain shade of brown you're on the target list. Plus any illegals would have naturalised friends and family who voted for him. Little Marco might get deported at this rate.

Oh there are plenty of naturalised, or born citizens of ethnic descent who absolutely shafted their family and friends by voting for trump, but the actual deportees won't be trump voters.

Trump is a monster, and his voters are split into 3 broad camps.

    1. Other monsters (who actually want fascist things Trump stands for to happen)
    2. Gullible fools (who were manipulated into thinking that Trump will actually make their lives better, or at least be better than Biden/Harris would have been)
    3. Nihilists who feel that the entire US political system is corrupt to the core, and no matter who they voted for, the decline was already baked in, so they voted for Trump to see what would happen (the Democrats craven 'resistance' kinda proves them right so far)

Take out the courts by having all the lawyers and judges who challenge any of his actions disbarred/suspended is the fascist equivalent of asking the genie for 'A bigger house, a flashy car, and 3 more wishes'

Where would the AG get the authority to seek sanctions against attorneys and law firms if Trump could NOT give the AG to apply the sanctions himself under the Presidents Official Duties proviso? Peculiarly the US AG is head of the justice dept and chief Govt advisor to the President on legal matters so no one else would seem better placed to advise Trump on such matters,

It looks like Trump knows the POD ruling does not give him the power to so instruct or authorise the AG to go after attorneys directly and he's pushing the AG to seek court approval for his sanctions idea. According to Trump the lawyer are engaging in vexatious actins against his Admin Depts, not a mention of the word "illegal" in the directive.

Trump may be sacrificing his AG on the altar of Trump-ism at the SCOTUS court in a step too far move for it. The lawyers Trump is continuing to attack may not roll over so readily and may fight him in the SCOTUS arena.

On the issue of Doge's layoffs of federal employees on behalf of Trump, it seems there is theorising in the IRS that, due to the layoffs in the IRS, US taxpayers may be prepared to risk not complying with IRS tax return law and fail to pay an estimate US $500 Billion in due tax to the IRS. The theorising is reported by both the WaPo and The Independent. I guess that would make people in the US, at taxpayer and congress-level sit up and take notice of the idea of such a shortfall in earned revenue at the IRS, all down to the actions of two persons, one elected and one advisor.

I was always curious why Biden wanted to hire 80k+ within the IRS and then I found out for each $1 the IRS spends on audits, it recoups $5 in taxes for medium income people and $12 for high income.

Trump said he'd be a dictator on day one. That's true, but he's also been a dictator for an additional 60, so far. He's been ruling the country from the resolute desk via executive order, and US Congress has largely bent the knee. It's exactly as bad as I thought it would be, if not worse. By the time the US midterms roll around, it's not going to matter who wins them, such will be Trump's grip on the machinery of power, and US democracy will officially be at an end.
