Lawson is blessed Red Bull don't want to touch Yuki and that Hadjar is an actual rookie.

He is so far away from being near ready.

Will be stiff competition between Yuki and Hadjar to avoid promotion Lawson's seat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,389 ✭✭✭mr_edge_to_you

Apparently Jos is demanding that Max be promoted to Racing Bulls immediately.

I'd like to see where the RedBull actually is on the grid without Max behind the wheel

    Delighted for Hadjar.

Well done Oscar Piastri, pole and new lap record. Some lap from Russell too!! Max still in the hunt too. Some season this is turning into lads. 😁

Very impressive from Piastri. Looks like McLaren will have the same headache as last year, not much separating their 2 drivers.

    well done Oscar.

Only because McLaren great drivers who will be fighting each other. Otherwise it would be a one horse race.

I know a lot of people don't like him but Zak Brown has done a phenomenal job over the last few years with McLaren.

Used to like karun, but his interview with Zak became about Hamilton and now he is patronising hadjar because he starting right behind Hamilton tomorrow.

Karun and Zak. What a combo.🤮

    No thanks!

Well done to both Racing Bull drivers for qualifying in the top ten.

Brown has put a really good team together in fairness. I think he indirectly helps the main man Stella by taking so much media time.

Would love to see Piastri convert the pole after getting less luck than Norris in Australia.

I wonder how much of RedBulls on track performance has been impacted by the stuff in the background like people leaving, the general circus around the team, the stuff with Horner etc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,277 ✭✭✭thefa

Imagine there has to be some impact from the brain drain with some of the exits. I think some of the talent acquisition by Red Bull themselves was credited with the catch up to Mercedes at the end of the last regs and the head start they achieved in these regs. Guess they were nearer plateauing and some others were bound to catch up with good people.

It’s interesting that they went down a certain route that reaped great rewards for a few years so proved worthwhile but now have something that only the top of the grid can handle (at best).

Hard to say whether some of the off-track negatives (Horner/Helmut) had an impact unless it was a contributing factor to some leaving. The Perez situation definitely didn’t help him and was a bit of a mess with how the contract situation played out. Might be no harm to put a gag on Helmut.

Well done far it has been a very dull weekend. Sprint race was dull. Happy for Hamilton but it will be forgotten by everyone on 10 years time except Hamilton as it's not what matter. The main race is. Qualifying was boring too. Hopefully George does a Torpedo on Aussie boy at the front and either Max, Lando or Hamilton go on to win the race.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Both Sky and BBC (articles mainly) are just all over the sprint, even the qualy result was below Hamilton comments about people yapping…it was a sprint race, bloody hell.

Once qualy started it looked more like we expected, McLaren are still ahead, Max is working miracles in that car, reminds me of Schumacher in 98 and 99.

I’ve fully switched over to the F1TV commentators are they are far more balanced.

Ted pulling no punches with Horner

"You didn't pay off Checo for this?"

I thought it was a mistake giving Lawson the seat, he didn't show anything in the races he was in last season to suggest he was ready for the step up.

But...there's no way Ted would try that line of questioning with other team principles

Lawson was supposed to prefer a pointy car like Verstappen. Seems like there's pointy and then there's real pointy. 🤣

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,797 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

Red bull are the only team that treat their drivers as shabbily as this on a repeated basis. It's a fair question.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,412 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

If Max leaves Red Bull would fall to 4th/5th best.

They seem to have replicated Honda during the unbeatable Marc Marquez years.

At best they developed the car each year solely to suit Max leaving any of the second drivers screwed. At worst the car is just an absolute fridge now but Max is good enough to be able to drag it to where it has no business being meaning the team never bothered to try improving/fixing the car as Max was still getting results.

In a comment during the preview of the season, Andrew Benson, the BBC chief correspondent, admitted that the preseason stories about Hamilton arriving in Maranello, seen in the red overalls, were basically stories about nothing, but they were getting the hits on the website.

    This too shall pass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,805 ✭✭✭RoryMac

I don't disagree but Ted is he one writing off Lawson's chances and trying to build the pressure on him with those comments.

Morning folks, hope this isn’t a snooze fest of a race.

    Good morning!

I think tyre wear should provide some jeopardy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,591 ✭✭✭TheRona

I don't know why people think this would be a procession. Shanghai usually is usually up towards the highest number of overtakes in a grand Prix, and that's without taking into account the way the tyres seem to be going off this year.

Everyone mentioning it will most likely be two stop race.

The hard hasn't been used by anybody this year, I'm hoping it doesn't outperform and last 50 laps.
