You use the term we ? I think most posters here are opposed to the numbers of asylum seekers and the extra benefits Ukrainians are getting. I do like the dog whistle "tiny fraction " can you explain that !

What lies can quote them ?

The country managed quite well before immigration. There was affordable housing ,rents,no waiting for medical services , retirement homes . No racial tension . The post reeks of let's have more bring in the worlds poor and persecuted. Deluded.

What are those that favour such immigration doing to help the poor and persecuted that come here .?

I seen yesterday some pharma industry players here now looking at moving manufacturing to the US. Good night Irene if a decent percentage do.

We issued 150k pps numbers last year to immigrants and the multinationals added 1000 jobs last year in Ireland. If anymore than 50% of those 150k can pay their rent here I'll eat my hat!

When the corporation tax dries up will our 20 somethings stick around after their degrees to compete against the government for housing, decline in Dublin , sit on the m50 ? Doubtful

Demand ID for all flights and ferries to Ireland from the UK and NI . A sizeable number in NI want a united Ireland . There is no will to do this only excuses .

Yes I really hope this wonderful multicultural Ireland you write about is successful just like Sweden which we all aspire to. Now if we can spend all that apple money to make this happen it will worth it.

I saw the follow up video and genuinely laughed. A decent guy who says it straight and what happend to him has been going on for a while now. When people like him are being cancelled you know they have run out of road.

"we are all the far right now father" indeed.

The pile on in the comments on the second video was something to behold, all off the same script. It was kind of funny to see the mistakes with the automation they were making with weird, out of context, Palestine comments randomly mixed in.

The memo went out though this morning however it's dizzying in the cope .

We have the worst possible person talking about immigration in the white house, and while I loath that man, he had one or two points. Now we have a respectable fella questioning immigration policy and there’s a pile on.

It would be funny if it wasn't so serious. Garron has just found out what anyone who has been speaking out for the last 18 months and more have said. If you speak out, you run the risk of a pile on, the trolls will attack you, dox you and even go after your employer's if you dared raise concerns.

But none of this happened by chance, it's caused by our politicians, who even yesterday in the Dail were resorting to petty childish slurs, shouting dog whistle and shame across the benches. They have created a vacuum by running away from serious questions.

He wasnt my cup of tea, but I hope he is okay, he doesn't deserve the abuse he got. But then, I'm not surprised either, the be kind crowd are often the least kind.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,044 ✭✭✭_Puma_

Dosent make sense does it. Untill ya realise it's all just automation and someone like mcGregor already has the tools and means to counter it, in real time.

The little guy does not and these ghouls know it. To hell with the consequences it is going to have on the individual that they target.

Its an Arms race and the eternal September, on steroids.

All the talk about toxic masculinity in recent times, but we are seeing actual real toxicity in the Dail.

Harris not answering a basic question but instead personally attacking a politician while his minions taunting the politician is real toxicity.

One of the things he said definitely resonates.

Communities all over Ireland are concerned, and their concerns are continuously not being heard so they are turning towards extreme beliefs. He goes on to talk about how it's been mishandled.

I do find that politicians are quick enough to demand information from opposition parties when it suits them but actually informing local residents of what goes on in their area and working with communities is largely a second thought

The amount of influencer/gossie types that fawned over Garron Noone surely all have the "What's more important, my career or backing a friend publicly?" predicament this morning.

It's not a who or one individual that gets someone 'cancelled'. It's a consequence of saying something online that the baying mob disagree with. There's no one reason it will happen, but the pattern is always the same. Various social media accounts will attack the poster, report the post, dox and abuse them. It will take various forms but the result is always the same. A social media account will be removed, either through mass reporting or because the account holder has had enough and can't deal with fallout.

Fair play to Paul Lawless of Aontu asking Simon Harris about planning for IPAS centres

It was a sad day for the country yesterday to see how the government responded to a reasonable question posed by Ken O'Flynn about immigration. To see the Tainiste of the country behave as he did and his party back benchers shouting "shame" across the floor of the Dáil was disgusting and all because government don't want to answer questions around their disastrous handling of immigration. We are seeing this alot by this government anytime Michael Martin is asked a question he goes off on a rant rather than answer question or makes a snarky comment under his breath so as to bring disorder to the house so the question is forgotten.

Then we have the pile on on Garron Noone, who comes across as a decent chap, because he commented on immigration. His comments I felt were even controversial and he was demonised for this.

All this name calling and labelling behaviour we are seeing from Government and those that support the current immigration system is just making people angry and at some stage it may come out. There just needs to be an open and honest debate about this.

There didn't even need to be a debate on that question in the Dail. Harris just needed to do what he is paid for and answer the question.

false stories of immigrants throwing passports away

Eh, this has been confirmed as true.

It seems you are more than happy to just put your head in the sand and pretend that there is no issue what so ever with the current rate of migration into the country, when clearly most people do.

Most people dont have an issue with migration, but most people have an issue with the level and rate of migration.

There is a difference. You want to focus on the former exclusively as its a safe space for you to point at people and yell, "You are a racist"

If someone like Garron, the opposite of Conor, a sort of national treasure, speaks on the issue and is bullied off line, what hope is there of any proper discussion, when automatic shut down, branded a far right racist

I wonder will anyone in DE speak about what happened Garron

I think it is beyond clear it is an issue here in Ireland and our government are failing

This is the outcome of allowing far left activists to govern what is considered acceptable discourse in this country.

The only solution to this is for someone to actually initiate litigation against these loons when they label someone as far right.

Something needs to soften the cough of the far left in Ireland, be it on the issues discussed on this thread or in other spheres, these people are completely unaccountable and feel empowered to harass abuse and in some situations assault people they find morally objectionable.

That isn't a sign of a healthy society and it's high time we stopped accepting it.

    Glazers Out!

The thing is the "pile on" isn't real. It's what they want to amplify to "control the narrative" . In reality they have held a microphone to their little echo chamber, and what has come out is deeply unpopular and is now plain to see the tactics they have been using. They messed up big time on this one and it's been coming.

The outpouring of disgust to these loons, that we are seeing this morning is the real pile on. They are feeling the kickback from that now.

Hopefully someone like Garron can see that, like the rest of us can.

Yep, it's completely shocking. I must say I'm so completely angry and ashamed of Harris and Martin.

Obviously oblivious to it all and sending towns and services round the country down the toilet. I used to be a charitable person, but not anymore. The government is taking my income tax and pissing it way. Not just wasting it but absolutely facilitating a breakdown of society, fairness and culture here. Yeah culture, that bandwagon they jump on when it suits them. Well, that culture will be gone.

    The tik tok shamrock taoiseachs.

I'd imagine being on the receiving end of one of these pile ons would feel real. The pile ons are probably been driven by a very small number of individuals. The problem is the mainstream media and politicians in Ireland are on the side of the perpetrators.

Not sure if everyone has seen the video but here it is. He just said our loud what a lot of ordinary folk think in this country.

I hope TLLS/PK comments in defence of Garron tonight

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,925 ✭✭✭ArthurDayne

But this happens to literally everyone in the public eye. Politicians are constantly trolled and sent death threats — and any ordinary person voicing opinions that lean in favour of things like migration, trans rights etc — will often be trolled online and subject to hate campaigns. Business people who have allowed premises to be used for housing refugees have been subject to targeted hate campaigns too.

The problem for personalities whose careers are built on media or social media is that people often seem to confuse negative reaction to unpopular or controversial opinions as "cancellation" — rather than it being that people simply just don't agree with you or prefer you to stick with the funny lighthearted stuff.

There has always been a certain level of neutrality involved in having a public media persona, and a level of risk in publicly mixing ones private opinions with that public persona. What's pretty funny though sometimes is that many of these allegedly cancelled people still have opinions that are very easy to access online, including on YouTube and social media.

Never heard of the chap before, seems like a fairly measured and reasonable comment.

Just in case anyone wondering what the video created the hullabaloo is!. This poster features exactly what Garron Noone said:-

Ken O' Flynn TD Pledges Support for Garron Noone “political discourse in Ireland in mired in a suffocating level of manufactured state supported consensus:”

Independent Ireland TD for Cork North-Central Ken O’Flynn has said the decision by Tiktok phenomenon and Ballina native Garron Noone to deactivate all of his social media accounts following an online backlash to his comments about immigration has merely confirmed that “political discourse in Ireland in mired in a suffocating level of manufactured state supported consensus:”

Independent Ireland coming out in support?

Show's I'm not as active on 'Xitter' (Garron Noone Trending in Ireland). Found out about it from @JP Liz V1 post on the LLS thread!

The whole fault is at the governments feet for been too generous with taxpayers money.

No one has any issues with people coming here to fill jobs with visas etc. But when they hear stories of Ukrainians getting car repairs paid for by us taxpayers it is deeply infuriating. And then not answering straight out of this is true. Ukrainians have the exact same opportunities plus more as the rest of us. ARP payments and not been made pay for their accommodation when they are working it's an absolute kick in the teeth for other people trying to rent .
