Would it be the two thugs who broke into his victim's house and stabbed her boyfriend, do you think?

…..And he has confirmed he is running for president.

Heres what he said about it.

On Instagram, McGregor wrote: ‘Ireland must fully implement the EU Migration Pact by June 12, 2026. ‘So between now and 12 June 2026, several pieces of legislation have to be passed by both Houses of the Oireachtas & then signed by the President. ‘The next presidential election must take place by 11 Nov 2025. Who else will stand up to Government and oppose this bill? ‘Any other Presidential candidate they attempt to put forward will be of no resistance to them. I will! ‘For clarity also, as President, I would put forth this bill to referendum. ‘Although I oppose greatly this pact, it is neither mine nor governments choice to make. It is the people of Irelands choice! Always! That is a true democracy!'

He can say he's running for President all he likes but the fact is he is locked out of nomination.

Would the fact that he has, apart from the rape conviction, 20+ other convictions work against him? Oh plus the fact that he walks like a clown!

For those who don't know there is ZERO chance of this scum bag running for President. See below

Nomination: You need to be nominated by:

    • At least 20 members of the Oireachtas (Irish Parliament), or
    • At least 4 local authorities (county or city councils)

Who/What local authority would touch this guy with a 10 foot pole???

Yeah it’s not that he’ll get on the ticket - it’s the agitation that he’ll start up - there’s no doubt a small but vocal group - Fascists of Paddy Ireland or whatever they’re called- that will jump on this bandwagon, raise some noise and before you know it, some US MAGA newspaper (is there any non maga US paper at this stage? 😀) will probably have a headline “Ireland denies McGregor his democratic rights”. Ireland will be classed as a dictatorship and Trump will insist on MM resigning or more tarrifs will be imposed - probably on butter.

At this stage, we’ve all seen enough to predict what’s coming and write the script - just like Saturday Night Live- the real antics of Trump and MAGA are more amusing / frightening than any comedy satire show.

Not even nuttier right wing councillors would endorse him because of the rape case. That would follow them around whenever they went for re-election. If not for that they might but he'd still have no chance.

As another poster said he is just setting it up to be able to say he was denied a nomination.

No idea - just saw it mentioned in an article this morning - nearly sure it was the Indo - but I’m glad to see the judge is insisting on seeing the evidence before ruling on the appeal - let’s wait and see - won’t be back around the courts for another 2 weeks at least

For clarity also, as President, I would put forth this bill to referendum

Am I correct in understanding that the President can either sign a bill (or not) or refer a bill to the Supreme Court to test its constitutionality but has no authority to decide to put it to a referendum (although they can pout it to a referendum if it is voted for by the Seanad or Dáil?

It's probably only a matter of tine before he's up before the courts again. That's the type of character he is.

Does this empty head know that the president of Ireland has no influence over the Dail and Seanad who pass the laws? The president of Ireland can't even Veto a bill the seanad or Dail have passed.

I think he thinks he'll be the Irish version of Trump, throwing diktats all around and everyone will do what they're told.

I'm fairly certain McGregor, between the cocaine, repeated punches and obvious stupidity, doesn't have the first clue about the Irish constitution nor the brainpower to process it.

In reality, the only thing his election as president would achieve is (a) likely cutting down his cocaine supply because he'd be in the public eye a lot more, and (b) shout out to the world we're a failed state because we elected an utter scumbag to represent us.

It's empty vessels making the most noise style nonsense. I'd harbour a guess there's a tonne of skeletons in McGregor's closet too that would absolutely be dug up even IF he somehow got a nomination! Remember the whole Sean Gallagher debacle!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,522 ✭✭✭✭Penn

You'd think the skeletons outside his closet would be enough to ensure he doesn't get a single Oireachtas or Local Authority nomination, but it wouldn't surprise me if he gets one or two of either.

Cult of personality has unfortunately become the politics du jour, even if McGregor's personality is "cocaine".

Mcgregor could just be a distraction for some other clown with similar ideas that will run for president.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,975 ✭✭✭granturismo

He doesnt have a rape conviction - the DPP decided not to proceed with a criminal case. He was found liable in a civil case. He can afford to waste a few million euros trying to get a nomination from local authorities or members of the Oireachtas.

    This is exactly the fear.

Was McGregor in The White House to discuss causing a commotion for the Irish democratic system?. I could see Musk in particular backing and encouraging him to go for a nomination and to see how much hassle they can generate for 'the system' using the Irish and worldwide influence of the X army of followers.

They could try out a bit of political messing around in a small democracy and see how it works out for a try elsewhere. The damage it could create for our democratic system by mobilising far right supporters here and abroad, could be huge. He may not have a hope of being selected, but even that could be used to stir up a lot of hassle for our democratic system. The time that he could take up from the distractions he could generate could have a big impact on government business.

We are living in very strange times at the moment where an increasing amount of people are disconnecting from the democratic process in favour of following internet influencers. The turnout in Irish election processes (local, national, european and presidential) has been falling in recent years and the presidential election turnout is one of the lowest, it is a good place to start if you want to have a go at (f)bucking the system.

But to every right wing bellend and half of America the only reason he isn't allowed to run will be down to woke/trans/immigrants/Biden/the Dems/Ukraine/maybe Obama and they shi1te will be pumped down the throats of everyone on social media by the bots and musk

  • Moderators, Politics Moderators Posts: 42,835 Mod ✭✭✭✭Seth Brundle

mcg won't get the nomination to stand for election. I can't actually see him even trying to get the council or politicial nominations becauze he knows they won't give it to him. He'll mouth off about how it is a closed to the common man, etc but won't answer any questions about the level of effort he put into his candidacy.

Someone above suggested him bribing his way but I actually don't see this happening - he is so toxic that nobody would want to be found to have taken his money (and they would be found out)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,484 ✭✭✭Pauliedragon

Your being a little paranoid there Ger. He won't be nominated. I have more chance of getting a ride off Kylie Minogue than that pelican getting a nomination let alone elected. We don't really have a "far right" here. He'll mouth off about our system being corrupt and Trump will get bored of him quickly. Trump seems to have an issue with attention span.

Surely we could just say he has to have a full debate in Irish and that would be that. He struggles with English as it is.

Let me put some fears to rest.

In 2011 and in 2018, 4 independent candidates each time were nominated through the City and County Council process. This, as has been mentioned, is the only way to be nominated, other than getting 20 Oireachtas member's signatures.

At the time of those campaigns, local authority membership was much more fractured in the aftermath of the financial crisis and crash, with a strong representation of minor parties and independents.

This time, following last year's local elections, the big three parties, particularly FF and FG, have a stranglehold on the City and County Councils, and so only a few of those Councils will even have the option of nominating an independent candidate.

As well as that, each Council can only nominate one person, which narrows things even further.

I suspect myself that there will be no Council nominees sent forward, and a max of 5 nominees coming from the Oireachtas, one each from FF and FG, and an agreed leftist candidate from SF, Lab, SDs and PBP. Or maybe SF will nominate Conor Murphy on their own and leave the others to get behind Frances Black.

The other two would be independents like McDowell, or perhaps one from a scatter of people like Tom Clonan, Alice-Mary Higgins, Aubrey McCarthy, Lynn Ruane or Eileen Flynn.

You might also see a collection of right leaning independent members of both houses come together behind Ronán Mullen or Sharon Keogan.

But the crucial fact is, the number don't exist across the 234 Oireachtas members to nominate all of them, not once the big parties are whipped.

And so, as you can see, the path to a nomination for Conor McGregor or any other such degenerate, is impenetrably blocked.

Strange times indeed- a few years ago I would have laughed at both your post and mine- now not so much - the fiction of conspiracy theory forums and other crackpot ideas is becoming fact
