She is, but I was hoping Amber Anning might beat her. Anning has had a nightmare champs. DQ-ed in the individual and then obstructed by Peeters in the relay. Very unlucky.

Yeah a disappointing championship for Anning.

I suppose that's the uncertainty indoor running isn't it. Just look at how unlucky Koster was in what is normally a little less of a chaotic event.

I think the track might have added to the chaos as well, with relatively short straights making overtaking harder

Ireland team for world indoors named

    Sarah Healy (3000m)

    Andrew Coscoran (1,500m, 3,000m)

    Sarah Lavin (60m H)

    Kate O’Connor (Pent)

    *Mark English (800m)
    *Cian McPhillips (800m)
    *Sophie O’Sullivan (1,500m)

*These are pending confirmation from the top lists. They also named James Gormley here but he has no chance of getting a spot

Adeleke and Mawdsley qualified but don’t go. Bori Akinola and Lucy May Sleeman are in the top lists positions but didn’t meet the standard

Gormley has made it. So many withdrawals! Only 14 entered (inc 2 Irish men)

Timetable for Nanjing, adjusted for Irish time

Are the morning sessions available to watch in Ireland? I see BBC are doing the evening sessions but the morning sessions are behind the red button

You should be able to find a live stream on the World Athletics website. You’ll probably need to register though.

JFYI: Mark English and Cian McPhillips have both withdrawn due to injury. McPhillips will be out for several months with a stress fracture.

Sarah Healy is clearly our most likely medalist. There are three Ethiopians in the 3000m, but given her current form, I don’t believe she needs to be in any way intimidated. Would love to see her bag another medal.

Kate O’Connor might have an outside shot given that the multi-events field is practically identical to Apeldoorn. Andrew Coscoran and Sarah Lavin will be aiming for finals.

Kate going well, 2 PBs and 2nd overall after 3 events. Will still need something special to get a medal.

    3000 metres are straight finals?

Long Jump PB for Kate with her very first attempt, 6.30m. With the 800 to go (plus 2 more jumps) she's a great chance of a medal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,247 ✭✭✭✭Pherekydes

Another PB in round 2, 6.32m, and a poor first attempt for Vanninen.

Coscoran up soon in the 1500m heats, against Ingebrigtsen, only 2 to qualify (plus one fastest)

3 PBs out of 4 again for Kate, has a chance of silver if she's runs another hot 800m.

Poor run for Andrew Coscoran I think, should've made the final

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 485 ✭✭Rossi7

Think he thought he was too good for the field and back fired.

Kate O'Connor just needs to beat the American by 0.3secs for silver, nearly 2 sec PB better than her too 🤞

Ive been watching Coscaran for a while as he is a local lad, fantastic talent, but he doesn't seem to put as much into or maybe gets it wrong more often at championship running compared to the elite events like the Millrose and New Balance games

There's a big difference between a Champs and the Millrose Games. More tactics required rather than fast times. Hopefully he has a good run in the 3000m

World Indoors silver medal for Kate O'Connor!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,767 ✭✭✭Speak Now

Unreal 2 weeks for Kate 🥈🥉

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,159 ✭✭✭Cosmo Kramer

Rinse and repeat for Coscoran unfortunately. Just not a championship performer.

Fantastic achievement from O'Connor though, much as I preferred the drama of the 800 at the Europeans, showing the ability to back it up at the World's is very impressive, and a medal upgrade too.

Will be interesting to see how much she can improve her heptathlon PB this year, with javelin being her best event she should go well if she can stay fit, maybe crack the top 10 in the world or better.

think some are being harsh on Coscoran for what it’s worth. Ran a decent race. Top 2 was a real tough ask

Kate O'Connor is quickly becoming the superstar of Irish athletics. I'd say cracking the world top 10 is a very low ball assessment of her expectations. Listening to an interview with her, she is aiming for much higher and seems to have the talent to back it up.

You don't say, wow your cutting edge commentary is a lot to be desired

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 335 ✭✭horsebox1977

She's done well and she can only beat whose in front of her but the top 9 from the Olympics didn't compete in the worlds, which may have a misleading perception about where she stands. Some of those are probably close to retirement KJT etc..

Just looking at the results from Paris.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athletics_at_the_2024_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Women%27s_heptathlon

Vannigan has made unbelievable progress, especially in the jumps and shot.

Sarah Healy about to get going in the women's 3000. A medal is probably a tough ask, but not totally out of the question. Fingers crossed!

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,764 Mod ✭✭✭✭yerwanthere123

6th for Sarah, not bad at all. She ran a good race and didn't do anything wrong I think, just couldn't live with the gear change on the final lap.

Very disappointing to see Houlihan medal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 898 ✭✭✭marathon2022

Have to agree, Healy was looking good until the last lap. Just didn't have the kick,

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,764 Mod ✭✭✭✭yerwanthere123

Mens 3000 should be a procession for Jakob, but you never know. Hopefully Coscoran can get involved.

Fantastic race, Coscaran gave it a lash, but similar to Healy he wasn't able to handle the pace of the last lap.
