Inset Stove Won't Fit in Fireplace (Back Boiler)

    Hey folks,
I picked up an inset stove having used one before and finding it much more economical than the open fire. The stove itself seems similar to one I used before, but this is a different fire place with a back boiler, and the stove doesn't go all the way back. You may be able to see a faint line where the back of the stove has rubbed off the back of the fireplace. The stove is a few CM too deep.

Is this a complete no go, or would there be any way to get it working without major renovation? Is it even ok to use this stove with a back boiler fireplace?

I was thinking if I got another metal surround, the same as what's at the fireplace already, and lined it up to the existing one and tightened the stove in place to tighten it all together, it might work.

If anyone may have any advice, I'd appreciate any suggestions :)

What connector does it have into the chimney, standard 5" or what?

Thanks for the reply, from what I remember, a connector will help with efficiency but isn't essential for these. I had one in use years without one so was hoping for the same again with this.

This is another image of the rear of the stove:

You have to seal between the rear of the stove and the flue, otherwise you risk gas leakage into the room. Normally this is done by taking out much of the fireback and then installing a bottom plate and liner.

Way too risky to not do it right. 👍️

Thanks again for the comment, is the stove getting pulled tight against the surround with the fire rope creating a seal, not a good enough seal to prevent gas leakage into the room?

I remember looking it up before and getting the OK to do it without any connector and I think it's pretty common this way with these inset stoves, but better to be safe than sorry for sure if it's not advisable.

I guess I'm best off just trying to sell this one on anyway as I don't think it will fit without major work :(

No, needs to be a complete seal, otherwise it will leak gasses in the event of a down-draft. Have a look at page 3 here for example and figure 6 on page 4:

Thanks again for your help! Have it up for sale now. If I end up getting another I'll ensure to fit it properly, thanks again :)

You need to decomission and remove the back boiler before you put any kind of stove in there.

@Lewis_Benson I was thinking that may be the case. Do you know why though? Like if the back boiler simply isn't used, what issues may it cause to have a stove in the same place an open fire was previously?

Basically there's a massive risk of explosion if it's not decommissioned properly.
