I suspect that Roberts is only protecting his own neck and those of his cohort. If Trump were to set precedent by getting judges that don't agree with him impeached, then why couldn't a dem president down the line do the same and set their sights on the Supreme Court Justices, some of whom (cough, Thomas, cough) probably merit it already.

BBC few weeks ago discussed what are criteria for constitutional crisis

Point one was Trump and co ignoring judges

    And like clockwork

100%. After all the bluff and bluster and lets face it the bullying, the silence from Trump and Vance after Putin basically told them to do one is is defening.

This was the guy who would end the war with one phone call. Now he has been forced to do everything Putin wants and Putin still wouldn't agree.

Trump look even more weak and pathetic than he did before. Imagine the vitriol if Biden or Obama was such a lapdog to Putin.

On the face of his statement, Roberts is acting as defence for the independence of the judiciary against another vile attack on the constitutional boundaries of presidential authority by Trump. He's probably more aware now than ever of the damage Trump will inflict on the US rampaging through the federal government if the law does not reign him in.

First time around he was a useful idiot for them.

    Now he's a dangerous idiot

100%. Nirvana for Russia would be to see the likes of California and other purple states seceding from the Federal Republic.

Just wait till he turns his attention to California. There'll be a massive backlash in the state.

if one of the key objectives of the army - re issues on US soil is to uphold the constitution- what kind of ‘ things’ might Trump do for the army to ‘be called in’ ?

And who gives the army the instructions to ‘ACT’?

And if the army is called in what are the options re ‘ Handling’ Trump? . EG. House arrest ,; same treatment as is netted out to those ‘criminals from eg Venezuela, etc.’ - just because they entered the US illegally and have otherwise no criminal record

I’d be 99.999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% sure that if I asked a typical Irish person with only a ‘ pass primary cert from a national/primary school’ at most about the outcome re those two pictures , they would clearly state that the Russians would would have him ‘wipe their a—e and have enough paper left over - from the one roll- to do it several times.

The GUY gets more unhinged day by day if the comments are true

Probably slim now. It might be that Roberts is trying to put steel into peoples spines, trying, as it were, to let people know he has their backs. If a majority of the SCOTUS bench were to arrange for Live-On-Air interviews by the media [including Fox] to tell the public that they were damn angry with the attacks on the courts by Trump and they weren't going to take it any more, that they were will take him on full face.

The media is there not solely for the benefit of Trump, Musk and the W/House weasels. Trump wants a fight, give it to him where it hurts, his ego. On the next verbal attack impugning a judge by him, order him to appear in court to explain his words and actions there. No representation by a go-between lawyer or laptop dog, he himself must attend in person. Follow it up with an order to Trumps W/House media Rep to not make any statement to the media or face contempt charges.

IF the head of the FBI were to order action against any judge on the basis of Trumps "Henry II" rants about troublesome judges, it's up to Roberts to call the SCOTUS bench together and remind them it's them Trump is really after for the elimination of constraints on him. Its either them and the constitution or the contents and intent of a Trump-altered constitution. Cut out this **** of the appointees having loyalty to Trump above the constitution. If they are to go down, go down in flames with Trump, be remembered for what they were and not for what they did on Trump's orders.

Damn, that thing in the oval Office has really got up my nose now.

Would are away out there . He actually is being played ‘ like a well tuned violin. The flow of the music flows ‘ swimmingly’ no breaks, no scratching and you just lye back and absorb it all in while the ‘world burns’ unbeknownst to you Mr Trump

One way to fix his wagon is for the parents of the child to go media on him, destroy any standing he has before he uses whatever reach he has against them. Get the message out to any person likely to provide references for him to use in court that it will hurt them big time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,274 ✭✭✭✭Leroy42

Oh. Trump knows it. He just doesn't care. Or more likely he cares that he achieves a peace deal because he promised he would and he knows Putin won't give in so the easiest path is to crush Ukraine.

Then Trump can get his Noble Peace prize and unlock all the Russian money. Pity about Ukraine but he doesn't play golf there so who cares.

Hopefully we get another film with Margot Robbie in the bath 😂

Except this time explanation will be short

    “Trump did it”

The ‘ Anti- Trump ‘ world should concentrate on implementing ‘PLAN B’ immediately rather than waiting for the end of the Trump presidency and implementing PLAN A in the meantime. The eg. COLLISION of the WILLING is concentrating on the ‘ here and now’ which is important to address. We have to just ‘suck up ‘ the impact of the Trump behaviour and the effect his decisions are having on on Gaza , Ukraine , Yemen, Russia, world stability or absence, international uncertainty, international / domestic trade, quality of life in the US, relationship with traditional Allies, etc, etc., and ‘do what we can’ to minimise its’ impact’

The Republicans are quickly becoming the Paedophile Party, there's some amount of them getting involved with underage kids that it is at a point now where they are a genuine danger to children.

A ho' bitch don't never talk back to her pimp daddy. A ho' bitch waits for her pimp daddy.

And Putin is very much the pimp daddy and Trump is very much the ho' bitch in this relationship, emphasis on bitch with Trump.

Alpha male indeed. Trump is the Smithers to Putin's Monty Burns.

What’s problematic with that statement is that many millions of Americans likely agree with it.

And on another note, Israel bombing West Bank and murdering 100s of people supported by the US - Trump intent on dividing up Ukraine with Putin - all distractions from the economy - keep the fear going so voters will feel beholding to you - Trump mentions WW3 every second day - there’s a playbook here that’s obvious to any school kid who has read 1984- keep the fear and propaganda going so that the citizens have no choice but to totally rely on you

Lots a muricans support Israel as an extension of US exceptionalism which is the belief that they can kill who they want when they want without consequence.

Non Zionist Israelis know that Trump's genocide plan will rebound on Israel when the US gets bored or descends into its own civil war.

It's a complicated topic. There are many different things claiming to be "digital signatures". Some are probably legally enforceable, and others are more doubtful. Just the other day, I renewed our dog license online, and the last step of it purported to be some kind of digital signature. But, there was no end to end audit trail linking me to whatever it was. So, I would doubt that would be legally enforceable. But, it was only a dog license …

I don’t know about the US, but here, the law only states that signatures can’t be held to be invalid simply because they are in digital form. That says nothing about the minimum standards for them or whether any particular digital signature would stand up in court.

Otoh, there are digital signature mechanisms with a more solid technical basis. Anything based on public key infrastructure, where people and organisations have to identify themselves up front and that fact is certified with electronic certificates etc. is more likely to be a valid digital signature.

The autopen is nothing like a digital signature though. It really is nothing more than a more sophisticated version of photocopying a signature and taping it to a document. It doesn’t address the question at all of whether the person whose signature was used, authorised or knew about it.

That said, the PBS article below does a good job of fact checking Trump’s claims, particularly with respect to the pardons. So long as Biden acknowledges that he actually did mean to pardon the people concerned that should assuage any concerns, largely because the constitution doesn’t require signatures on pardons at all. In fact the article gives examples of pardons being signed on behalf of presidents by others, which to me is a much more transparent way of doing business.

But, then the constitution does require signatures for legislation.

The legal opinion you mentioned (in the PBS article also) does address that point in a lot of detail, but from what I can see a lot of what it talks about is mechanisms where people can delegate signature authority to others in transparent ways (like powers of attorney) not really through simplistic signature copying schemes designed to make it look like the president actually did sign it himself.

Anyway, I’m not suggesting the opinion is wrong - just it’s another example of a surprising thing that this presidency has exposed.

Another good example of Trump using part of a strategy out of Putin’s - and his predecessors - playbook in order to stay in power. IE Create an enemy/threat and convince your followers - and , hope get others to change their minds and follow you- that you need a STRONG MAN - exactly like me- to protect you and I will

This is a vengeance presidency but I also believe there's a significant element of cognitive decline, he has become more unhinged, much shorter sentences, more tangents, far more repetition, and more word confusion.

Trump will not win the Nobel Peace Prize, there is no chance of Putin stopping the war until he conquers all of Ukraine, then he'll regroup and target the rest of the Eastern Bloc and Baltics. He is a monster, like Trump. He has caused too much damage already to NATO, veiled threats of annexing US allies.

By 1934, about a year and a half after coming to power, Hitler changed the oath of allegiance for the German armed forces from Germany to Adolf Hitler personally.

I can see no reason why Trump would not do the exact same, if and when he comes around to the idea. He could readily achieve this with the stroke of his permanent marker by issuing a Führerbefehl, or Executive Order, on any given Tuesday afternoon.

You can see why Trump has taken two paces back from NATO- too many inconvenient truths to deal with if America remained loyal to the programme - so he attacks NATO - not because he doesn’t think they do good- but because they’re in the way of what he wants to achieve with Russia and other rogue states and also what he wants to do in Greenland .

Anytime Trump gets “angry” with a country or entity or indeed a person, especially when that country is not a threat such as Canada- then you know it’s because of some underlying rotten plan - the more he shouts, the more rotten his plan is
