I think I'll be sticking with the .co.uk site. Family prime is important to me, I'm not paying twice for the myself and the missus. Plus the shipping times are much the same apart from the odd item from .ie saying it'll be here sometime today or 3 days from now. There's a lot of items with insane delivery prices.

Have they launched the website before working out how they are going to get the stock? Everything I searched for was not available. Considering they have customs-fee access to everything in the European Amazon stores that seems iffy. Slightly longer delivery times would be understandable, unavailability isn't.

    Can you provide some examples?

I'm comparing my last few orders are pretty much similar to UK price after currency conversion.

Also, Amazon Prime has actually dropped in price.

Amazon Prime hasn't dropped in price if you use it for Family Sharing or Prime Reading. You'll have to pay for every user separately and to access the other services.

Likewise for me, I'm pleasantly surprised. My last two small orders are actually cheaper on the Irish site. €5.78 for batteries as opposed to €7.11 on the UK site and €8.87 as opposed to €9.11 for a screwdriver set.

It seems like such a random selection on my first look. Filter by sold by Amazon.ie because lots of sellers and lots of sold by Amazon Uk which incur charges they say.

Seems to be a lot of food brands from Amazon.de but I see some Spanish stuff.

    I think it’s a soft launch.

Lots of my sub and save not available here and for example blitz kitchen rolls are cheaper in Dunnes with €10 off €50

Edit: no booze or Anker power banks

That's showing as €193 delivered for me on the UK site after including the £20 off voucher to bring it down to £159. Some difference to the €312 on the IE site.

No Kindle books available as far as I can see either. Maybe those will come over the coming weeks

I don't think it's a fair comparison when it's on promo on UK site. When I compare stuff I've ordered recently, they're pretty similar.

Even without the promo it's still €30 more expensive on the Irish site.

I thought Irish people care about the environment?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,764 ✭✭✭✭murpho999

Yes but I see it shows as shipping from Amazon UK so that could be the reason. I wonder if lots of products will have to be added to .ie

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,430 ✭✭✭✭machiavellianme

Unless it is manufactured here using fairy wishes, they'll have a similar impact on the environment, whether it comes via a warehouse in the UK or one here.

I wonder if we will now begin to get screwed with ads on Prime Video like they do in the UK? They let us off on that one initially because we were lacking most of the other benefits that they get in the UK Amazon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,518 ✭✭✭✭Varik

That says UK one is sold by a reseller, and the IE one is sold by "Amazon UK" and the price incudes €70 of import duties.

So it's likely amazon reselling it itself as they don't seem to be selling it themselves in the UK.

There's also 2 discounts, the main one and a voucher.

Even when you're looking at Amazon france or germany the price vary like mad.

Some do, some don't. Much the same as in every other country on earth, I'd imagine, Greta.

no student prime on .ie ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,057 ✭✭✭OmegaRed

So the Irish Prime is way cheaper than the UK site. If I switch to the Irish prime, do you still get free UK delivery included and amazon prime steaming for (what I am currently paying for) for cheaper? I'm sure thats not the case as it seems to good to be true

This isn't very clear "you will no longer have access to Prime delivery to UK" - I never had delivery to the UK on .co.uk site. It always came to Ireland

    You may be wondering

    • What if I already paid for Prime on Amazon.co.uk and don't want to be charged for two memberships?

When you sign up for Prime on Amazon.ie, we will automatically cancel your Prime membership on Amazon.co.uk and refund your last paid membership fee, which you will receive within 3-5 days via your original payment method.

    • Which benefits on Amazon.co.uk will not be available on Amazon.ie?

After switching your Prime membership to Amazon.ie, you will no longer have access to Prime delivery to UK, Prime Reading and household sharing of your Prime benefits.

    • I wish to return to my previous Prime membership on Amazon.co.uk. Can I go back?

After you transfer your membership from Amazon.co.uk to Amazon.ie, you can always re-subscribe to Prime on Amazon.co.uk.

    • Will I get access to the same Prime Video content on Amazon.ie? Will my pictures carry over from Amazon Photos?

Yes! You will have access to the same films and series and Irish content as long as you are browsing in Ireland. You will also continue to have access to your Amazon photo library on Amazon.ie.

    • Will my order history also carry over to Amazon.ie?

No, but you can always access your purchase history by logging into your previous account on Amazon.co.uk.

Dunnes cheaper for our L’or coffee.

Site is a bit of a mess, hope it’s just teething problems.
Happy that some food brands I bought from EU stores available on .ie site

    Not a great launch

A thing isn't what it says it is.

A thing is what it does.

Weird that they launched the day after Patrick's Day rather than the day itself. But anyway.

Checked my most recent order, of the 3 items 1 isn't showing on Amazon Ireland (a cheap/fake Lego set) and the other 2 are more or less the same price just converted.

Does Amazon Ireland's prime come with Prime gaming now?

    #MEGA MAKE EUROPE GREAT AGAIN

OK so looks like it may need a bit of thinking through and also a bit of wait and see.

I’m open to any and all correction but here’s my figuring:

    1. If you’re an occasional user of Prime Amazon.Uk- say 12 -15 deliveries a year or so- should you cancel and join prime Ireland? I’m not totally sure you should right now- you’ll need to do an exercise around what say your last 10 purchases cost currently on UK site vs new Irish site (euro vs converted stg to euro) to see just what the differences are
    2. If you’re someone who tends to buy expensive items on Amazon then definitely do your homework if you have a uk prime account (I’ll do that later when I’ve time)

Delivery times for .uk over last year have been accurate and excellent in the main -sometimes arriving less than 24 hours after order. I’ll need to look at overall prime membership costs (UK Vs Ireland) in the first instance just to see if there’s a saving there - then test out a few low value and high value items.

Coincidently I ordered a book on Amazon.uk this morning - it was one euro cheaper on the .ie website - so I’m one euro down already 😀

I just compared prices of kindle paperwhite - 210.96 euro on uk site with prime membership ie free shipping

It’s eur 202.45 on the Irish site so assuming you have Irish prime; that’s a saving of 8 euro - not huge but if many items had that saving it would add up.

So now it’s probably down to what items available on UK site that don’t appear on Irish site?
