Did outgoing (forced out) Republican congressman Adam Kinzinger not accuse the Democrats of doing something similar with MAGA? That worked out great for them...

If we say, for the sake of argument, that this is what the main Irish parties are doing, they must know by now that this would be an incredibly risky strategy.

    @For Petes Sake

Why does McGregor talk like he's learning English as a second language?

    Such a strange man.

I think it was initially his voice he used for American audiences as they would find it hard to understand howya-speak, so he tries to compensate by over enunciating.

Polling has consistently shown that 75-80% of people think our approach to immigration is wrong .

There is also the fact that excessive immigration to Ireland is contributing to alot of other problems that impact people on a day to day basis, for example it contributes to the cost of living crisis by increasing demand and cost of housing.

But even reading his tweets and Instagram posts. He's talking in broken English.

It's not having a huge impact, there's twenty odd thousand asylum seekers in the country. Anybody else is either European or on a work visa and obviously needed.

How come McGregor got to meet the President on Paddy's Day and MM was pushed through earlier in the week?

There was expected to be a government shutdown on March 14th - until 10 Democrats sh*t the bed and agreed to back a Republican-spending bill.

A reporter asked Rump about secret service protection for Bidens kids. A few hours later he announces that it's been revoked.

    What an absolutely horrible guy.

If the Dems get in next time they should go full scorched earth on these maga lads

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 528 ✭✭✭For Petes Sake

They won't. They'll want to be the 'adults in the room' because they're worried about what Republicans might do in response whenever they get back in.

Instead, Democrats continue to be spineless cowards and Republicans will do whatever they want anyway

The McGregor thing is so embarrassing, in retaliation we should get some famous American buffoon to visit us and parade him around like some dumb American stereotype. Hed have to be dumb, fat, crass and outrageously obtuse and overconfident......oh wait a minute.

    Comment sections aren’t exactly…real. Don’t worry

I watched a video the other day about the 80's series "V". The original concept was for an authoritarian regime taking over America based on the 1935 book "It can't happen here" by Sinclair Lewis.

Given the cold war the networks didn't want to show a program of a divided America so they came up with the concept of an alien invasion with the creator of the show.

It's funny how the leader of the aliens in the show even looks like Trump 🙂

At least in the show the humans were fighting back against the authoritarian regime. The damp squib that is the Democrats are showing no opposition to any of this.

So this doctor that was deported despite having a green card attended the funeral of Nasrallah.

Good for them kicking her out of the country.

He’s well able to talk in front of an audience when he’s abusing someone, but turns into a stammering simp if he has to say anything of substance (pun not intended, heh).

The 1980's V was a fantastic analogy of facism taking hold in America. The Visitor symbol itself was even just a lightly styalised swastica. They even managed to emulate Nazi wartime propaganda:

    s-l1200.jpg

They substituted antisemitism with distrust of scientists, who The Visitors viewed as a threat, so you even had a version of The Holocaust playing out, just with the target changed.

The 80's V encapsulated a pretty important message that such a thing could happen in the States. It was viewed as SciFi, but the message still hit home.

Perhaps as a sign of where things were going, the 2000's saw a reboot of V come onto the TV screens. The story was essentially the same, but nearly all of the nazi references were removed. The Visitor symbol was no longer based on the swastica, and a lot of the core messages of the original were essentially missing. It was a generic SciFi drama, and little else.

It almost felt like 2000s America was more interested in not offending anyone with references to nazism, than to try to learn from that part of history. And…so now we're here.

Cherry picking one questionable deportation that suits you is what this amounts to… Palestinian protester with a green card and no actual crime to his name also being deported.. But I'm sure you'll praise that too...

Meanwhile a good sidestep of the fact he gave prominence to a rapist yesterday by having him visit the white house. He also intervened in the case of the Tate brothers who are sex traffickers resulting in them getting back to the US. In any normal democracy, either of those would be a national scandal… That's only a random selection of his antics lately.

I’m still mildly traumatised all these years later by your one casually eating the hamster.
But yes V had a big impact back in the day. I was a child at the time so to me it was nearly more horror than sci fi and the Nazi references would have went right over my head. The sense of menace though in that series all justified in the end when it was revealed what the aliens had in store for the natives .

Except a poster downplaying trumps convictions and then complaining they are being perceived incorrectly as a trump supporter doesn't have anything to do with other voters considering it disqualifying or not.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,078 ✭✭✭uptherebels

    Of course you did,

    Let me refresh your memory

It only because it was trump

It was only class d felonies

    It was only one case

    Etc etc

What ramifications is Trump going to suffer 'for the rest of his life' Manic?

Doesn't seem to be suffering any to me.

    Chomsky(2017) on the Republican party

"Has there ever been an organisation in human history that is dedicated, with such commitment, to the destruction of organised human life on Earth?"

Find it slightly mental that only Rolling Stone are reporting in their headline about the McGregor that he's a rapist. Most mention it but they're the only one outright saying it in the headline.

He didn't downplay them on any personal or moral level. He downplayed the impact of them on voters - and he was correct.

Would be of interest to know the number of accommodation units used by immigrants would be suitable for accommodation for the 14000 odd thousand that are registered as homeless? Are a lot of the immigrants housed in converted buildings and suchlike and housed in areas where Irish people would not be willing to move to. If this is substantially the case it would be disappointing to be blaming the immigrants for contributing significantly to our housing problem

The main reason is because the meeting with MM is a much longer event, with more press, more security, more ancillary events (breakfast with the VP, that event MM was at that the Burkes interrupted). It's a big political event scheduled weeks in advance.

McGregor was invited for a quick photo op to play to Trump's base and then allowed to strut around for a bit like the coked-up wankstain that he is.

To do what, show the kids how to throw a few jabs, how to handle the girls in the class, to deliver sandwiches, fix a leaking pipe , as a student or what?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,337 ✭✭✭Field east

NO, the Demos should not play by Trump’s / MAGA’s playbook. It should concentrate exclusively on running the country and make life better for the less we’ll off

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,337 ✭✭✭Field east

I assume that the Demo ‘back room team’ are planning a strategy re the next mid term and presidential elections. So TIMING is very important. Is there any point in SHOUTING FROM THE ROOFTOPS now when it will ALL BE FORGOTTON by the time the elections come around.? Americans are said to have a very short attention span

Sure even when some of it went over young heads, Mike Donovan said it out clearly enough for everyone (bout 1min or so in)
