The promo was not what anyone wanted or expected which is why it was the right one.

There is a genuine possibility that heel Cena would be so over that it could hurt Cody. They have to make him disappoint people, he has to give the people something they don't want if he wants to actually get the negative reactions.

Well done to them as I didn't think they would manage that.

Agree with this.

While it definitely wasn't the promo that I expected, he is probably the most justified in delivering 'this' type of promo. I didn't love everything about the promo but there was things I liked and it definitely works for Cena.

I also agree that 'cool' heel Cena that people were angling for would probably outshine Cody. Hell, it nearly happened with the Final Boss last year. There's still time to mess with the presentation on the road to Mania so will be interesting to see what happens.

I didn't like the "I'm not a babyface, I'm not a heel" thing though. That's dumb. They had Triple H say a similiar thing about Cena being heel in a promo recently, not a fan of it.

Surprised that masked guy that attacked Rey and Lee travelled all the way from the States just to do it.

It's funny that soemone mentioned in the AEW thread about the name being on the cotract to stop just anyone signing it, then Rhea does just that. Iyo still feels like the third wheel in that feud. They need to try and rectify that somehow.

Says a lot about the World title when that ending made me more interested in the IC title picture.

Fair points above that Cena has 20 years plus of being booed as a face to fall back on. Just felt the language he used was a bit simplistic. You mean people hurt my feelings sounds a bit childish. He could have still used a lot of the same motivations about nothing he ever did being good enough etc without sounding so childish, while also not being a cool heel. A cynical veteran who's given up on trying to please anyone any more and doing what's best for himself.

Cena getting major heat was fun to watch. I thought the promo worked.. We aren't getting new music, new attire, because we dont deserve it. Cody came out looking strong and the crowd ate it up.

Poor Jey Uso didnt do himself any favours with that performance, the dive over the top rope was so sloppy and the spear wasnt that great either.. looked like Theory was confused and went for a crossbody. I believe he`s majorly over with the crowd but i think his ring work was always very limited.

My heart was in my mouth when Bron nearly landed on his head giving Finn the frankensteinter from the top rope, close call!

I just love the international crowds.. The atmosphere is amazing and adds to the product.

On Cena I thought Cody coming out and saying he didn't want his guy, he wanted to face the actual John Cena was good.

Now it opens up a Super Cena return or a more dark path of seeing the 'Real' John Cena that was behind the 'facade'.

Avoiding any physical stuff also makes sense as we are getting so many fights between everyone else on the card.

I don't think there is anything cena could of doing different here. Was definitely the right promo and still four weeks to Wrestlemania to build on it, if he came out as doctor of thugonamics he'd just be cheered by the fans. He is also putting cody over in a big way to be the new Cena for next five years.

Nearly burst out laughing when they zoomed in on the kid getting teary.
