    It is a fair point.

The value of the WHC has fallen dramatically even from it's second class status since last year's Mania. Priest was nothing special and then Gunther has faced Priest, Finn, Sami and Jey. Lost to Cody in Saudi. He may as well have stayed as IC champ.

Gunther as World Champion of RAW was not part of the Netflix debut night. It was main evented by Punk v Rollins. This week, with the post Elimination chamber buzz, we saw the show open with Punk and Rollins. The elimination chamber PLE did not feature Gunther at all while it did feature both of Smackdown's World Champions.

Meanwhile Gunther is still mixing with Alpha Academy (?) in what appears low card stuff.

It's a pity, Drew, Punk, Seth and Owens have all done so much without a title in play. Owens and Orton for the WHC or Seth, Reigns and Punk would have meant something.

Jey v Gunther is a problem because the WHC has been treated like it doesn't matter for much of the last year.

I don't think it's so much being that it doesn't matter than it is the current regime changing the presentation to be more like a sport and the switching out of championships that headline the weekly shows.

Part of the reason I don't care for the women's mid-card titles is that there is no women's mid-card. All their singles titles are the same. Chelsea Green is not building towards Stratton's level, for example.

Me neither, need to make it a triple threat match or something. If its a main event I'd probably switch off. Need to bring Roman into it somehow. Attacks and goads Jay into accepting it as a triple threat match or something.

Listen you can call Gunters World title a world title all you want, but it's a secondary title.

Uso looks like a geek for choosing that over Cody. I'll tell you again, Uso is not a star. He is not over. His catchphrase is over. As soon as the bell rings or he opens his mouth beyond his Yeet, he's a nothing. He's not a star. The real stars are lightyears ahead.

Punks opening promo was the best thing he has done since arriving back. Felt like he had the fire in the belly. Now that's a star. Everything he says in that promo was compelling.

Yeah I agree, I just don’t see Jey Uso as main event, regardless of the moniker he uses. He’s a mid carder and unfortunately I feel he’s bringing Gunther down to his level

    surprised rhea lost her title

    I

I go back to his Mania match last year. Everything was forced. As soon as the bell rang it died a death. Gunt is not being used right, the man should be a big bad in WWE. Instead he's a glorified IC champ.

I'd say given the circumstances of the loss we're looking at a triple threat at Mania, which is great because I did wonder where Iyo Sky would fit in after this match that I presumed she was losing.

Do we think Heyman and Reigns are going to gate crash the cage match between Punk and Rollins

    Midnight start tonight

Cody is scheduled too but will Gunther (Raw) world champ feature, more with Alpha Academy?, Jey Uso takes on Grayson Waller

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 92,394 ✭✭✭✭JP Liz V1

I am sorry Cena, Rock, Jey, Gunther, Iyo and Cody etc., but Punk vs. Seth vs. Roman should be the WM main event

Roman looked like he caught his missus cheating when Heyman was with Punk 😄 lots of stomps

Only so much Cody can do in carrying his feud for WM with Cena not around but both are scheduled for next week's Raw from Brussels

Did Rollins get injured or just trip over the wire ?

That's the Roman i like to see, he's now 'Your Tribal Chief'

Was a fairly lightweight Raw overall.

I feel like the people saying Jey isn't over are watching a different show than me. The crowd ate him up tonight.

I was getting worried for a second that they were going to bitch out Iyo but having her trash out and snap at Bianca and Rhea was great and is definitely gonna help her get over more. Triple Threat is definitely on the cards.

Judgement Day stuff is intriguing to me, the Finn/Dom stuff has me wondering what's gonna happen but that eventual split if booked well could be awesome. Also on a minor not, the Chad Gable thing was gas, thought it was gonna be Rey Fenix first lol.

The main event was class. Loved the ending and what a way to make this triple threat we're gonna get feel big. Felt for a while like Roman was just being thrown into it but this alone did a great job justifying it. Wonder when Punk's favour will come into it.

Cena/Cody next week, Finn/Bron and being able to watch it live (for the next few weeks while they're in Europe) is definitely gonna make me tune in for sure.

At first I was thinking WTF when the bell rang thinking it was a DQ in a cage match, but then they announced it and I realised Seth escaped the cage.

I thought that Andrew Schulz was Simon Gotch when it first showed him.

Rory Culkin dind't look too impressed being there. Maybe because they didn't name him?

Hope Iyo doesn't become an afterthought in the feud, which they seemed to be implying would happen last night until she reminded them.

And who was that masked man that attacked Rey?!?

Yeah other than the women's segment and the main event it was fairly lightweight this week but I think we are all just twiddling our thumbs till Cena decides to show up tbh. Cody's promo was decent enough, as I said with Smackdown there's only so much he can do with an absent Cena.

Thought the Logan Paul segment was awful. He's ok in the ring but Christ listening to him makes me want to turn off the show tbh. The match will deliver at least with AJ.

What's next for New Day. A run for the tag belts seems to make sense. I assumed we would get some pay off from the Big E stuff mind but it's becoming less and less likely now.

Roman acting like he caught his lover cheating re: Heyman was low key hilarious. That match is going to rule.

Rhea/Bianca/Iyo is this generations Becky/Sasha/Charlotte, very possible they completely steal the show if they set it up right.

McAfee is totally lost as a commentator when Cole isn't beside him, he was talking absolute nonsense when Cole was interviewing Iyo.

Poor Roman, Seth really missed him up with trust issues, his expressions are just class, meme worthy

Re Jey, it's people trying to be edgy imo. He is as over as anyone has been in recent memory. It's EXACTLY the same as Daniel Bryan and the yes movement, it was essentially a catch phrase but because he was a "cool" wrestler it wasn't an issue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,043 ✭✭✭✭beakerjoe

When the bell rings you know Danielson delivers and fans react

When the bell rings with Uso, it's sit on your hands time. The man isn't close to Danielson in terms of a real connection, let alone his in ring star ability.

Uso is a catchphrase guy, a vibes guy. His entrance is over, his catchphrase is over. The man is not a real star. Comparing him to Danielson is egregious. Nothing edgy about it, he's just not a real star. He's someone WWE have told you is a star rather than actually be one. Compare him to Cody, Cena, Punk, ..... He's not on their level, hence why it was such an underwhelming Rumble finale.

I’m in agreement here. Jeys matches are so f’n boring. Superkick x infinity. Big splash. Weak ass looking spear. Fin.

There is nothing in this for Gunther win or lose. And with WWE essentially spoiling their own main event, Mania 41 looks like a complete bust.

Also Rollins/Reigns one on one was the was to go. So much history. Shoe horning Punk in seems forced.

Priest/McIntyre isn’t a Mania match either it’s a good Smackdown main event nothing more. Only way to make it interesting is to make it a number one contenders match.

    The lifeboat has set sail

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,512 ✭✭✭ThePott

    I think that's a bit off personally.

He couldn't lace Danielson's boots and Jey is hardly an amazing wrestler in general but his matches have gotten big reactions. This Monday alone was proof of that. His entrance and catchphrase is over definitely. However his promos have gotten pops too, his merch is selling, etc. I think the Danielson comparison is interesting because people did say that they 'Yes' chant was over not Daniel Bryan (which was obviously false).

You don't have to like the guy but he is over by just about every metric. Did I want him to win the Rumble? No, not really but I'm not gonna complain that WWE is trying to make a star out of the guy, forever we were only complaining that WWE never tries to make new stars and here we are.

I don't think he's on the Cody/Cena/Punk level (that's rarified air) but I also don't think anybody is saying he's on that level. Hell the story they're telling is that nobody believes Jey has it in him to be worthy of a main event spot and able to defeat Gunther and become champion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,166 ✭✭✭Mr. Guappa

It's not like they are ramming Jey down our throats and lining him up to dethrone Cody. They've taken a guy who is already very popular, given him the Rumble win, and a relatively high profile match at WM. It's a chance to elevate himself and prove he belongs near the top of the card.

Do we just want the big matches to be a closed shop of Punk/Cody/Roman? Funny how nobody is questioning Gunther and his spot... if you ask me Jey is far more over than his opponent.

The build has been muck for the past month. They need to get them away from Alpha Academy and Theory/Waller ASAP.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,043 ✭✭✭✭beakerjoe

I don't hate the guy, he's likeable. But I feel hes hollow.

WWE trying to make him a star is a half hearted effort. Having him win the Rumble is a good start, no doubt and makes sense since he is a strong merch guy. But they don't see him on the level of others clearly. Having him challenge for a lesser title than the biggest title after a rumble win is a half hearted attempt at making him a star. It's a mud card title no matter who much you tell people it's a big deal. It's a half hearted push. They have not strapped the rocket to him. And I don't blame them for not doing it.

Nothing wrong with an entrance and catchphrase being over, but he's not got much else. Evidence to the groan when he won the Rumble or even his Mania match last year. The man hasn't the chops to deliver in big spots. He can go over Gunt but will it make him a star? Hes just another Damien Priest with a popular catchphrase. He's not gonna be the next Punk or Reigns. Hell he won't even be on Rollins level.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,043 ✭✭✭✭beakerjoe

And Gunther has a much bigger ceiling than Jey Uso, he'sbeen a fine mid card champ. He could easily go further than he is now if used correctly. Jey Uso is at his peak.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,512 ✭✭✭ThePott

I agree that Gunther has a greater ceiling than Jey for sure.

I can't defend his Mania match last year, it was the drizzles. I will say though that he has delivered some good matches down the years in tag and even some singles matches, I thought his first match with Gunther was pretty good even.

I think him going after Gunther over Cody isn't necessarily an indictment on how he's viewed by WWE or anything. I think this is why they have two titles because it means they don't have to put all their eggs in one basket and whatever they had planned for Cody was gonna be bigger than Jey. Maybe that's a statement in itself but I think right now they have the possibility to make a star and this is their chance to do it.

Not that I wasn't groaning when he won the Rumble though🤣

Iyo and Bianca contract signing tonight, will Rhea, Naomi or Jade crash it?

    Cena returns

Could we see something similar to WM 20 triple threat, there's a brawl and Rhea signs the contract not Bianca which forces them to make it triple threat
