Need yo check the BWG rate I'm on till the end of the month but I don't think the AXA deal is to far away from it?

    25c elec and 7c gas.

Can someone post the energia/axa rates. I cannot get access right now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,117 ✭✭✭wassie

All in the link I posted above.

I presume Flogas would stick you with the early termination fee if you moved early? For some reason my end dates with them are different even though I signed up to dual fuel in the same application.

Have gone with Axa dual fuel rate with Energia.

Electricity: 13.49c Night. 25.21c Day. 26.42c Peak. (incl Vat).

    Gas: 7.66c.

    Thank you sgdfsdfsd

    For those rates

Flogas told me yesterday to contact my "BWG manager" about the new rates and that there is a 50 euro per fuel (gas/elec) fee if you switch to another provider even a day before.

Looks like I'll be hopping to Energia at the end of the month.

The poor flogas calltakers having to take all these calls from faux BWG employees. Ensures no such deal will arise again

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,056 ✭✭✭✭OmegaGene

yes it does seem a bit strange calling them rather than just wait and see if a deal even happens between bwg and flogas and then a link may appear

My contract ends 31/3 so I'll instruct to move on the first.

The Energia/AXA rate is pretty close to the BWG dual fuel rates I'm coming off. Standing charge is in or around the same too.

Strangly when I jumped from original BWG rate to an updated one mid way through contract I wasn't charged any switch fee bit maybe because that's because I was staying with flogas.

I have a hefty credit on my account, I assume they will just refund that when the account is closed, can I pay it into my new suppliers account does anyone know or do I just park it in a vault for next winter whne big lgwr bills come in?

I know one thing i won't miss, the **** flogas billing system!

Ye, it's been said here since last year that if you ring Flo about the deals they'll just refer you back to your 'employer', nothing has changed and people are just wasting their time calling them.

I jokingly said previously that Tuesday April 1st next might set a record for daily switches, looks like that might be the case. I wonder will Flo care about loosing so many customers?

I can't see anyone bothering to potentially create hassle for themselves in work by doing that, however if anyone wants to PM me a link I'll happily repost it here for everyone.

The below is a general 'signature' and not part of any post:

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

You switched plans, not suppliers which usually is the trigger for an early exit fee. Most utility providers will often allow you to change plans mid-contract without penalty, as they will lock you in for a new 12 month contract.

I assume they will just refund that when the account is closed, can I pay it into my new suppliers account does anyone know or do I just park it in a vault for next winter whne big lgwr bills come in.

You have to request it. This can be done via email. They will pay it directly into you bank account. You can lodge that with your new supplier directly or a vault etc.

A word of warning, be prepared to wait or chase them. 3 months passed, several emails, and I still have not received the credit in my account.

"No, not immediately. Customer services informed me that refunds can take up to 3 months. In fact, it took just over 4 months for them to process the refund to my Flogas account. I had to make numerous phone calls and send emails to resolve the issue. The lesson I learned is that I will never be in credit again moving forward."

Refer to CRU now. The supplier has 'two months from date of final bill' to refund monies.

Rang Energia this morning to discuss renewal of our Smart Drive EV plan which is up next week.

They offered to continue the 15% discount no problem. I asked for the €50 cashback and agent told me he couldn't give it.

I asked if I could be put through to retention department as they will call me anyway when I switch to another provider.

Agent went to speak to a manager and came back with €50 cashback along with the 15% discount.

Happy with that so I renewed for another 12 months.

I phoned to simply confirm my contract end date as I would do close to the end date of any contract with any provider.

I made no reference to BWG, but the person on the phone noticed the name of my contract and said about contacting a BWG manager to renew.

I can assure you, the plan to change the way this deal is published occurred long before my call and I am sure they were aware since last year it was public on various forums.

Anyone know the day/night unit rates and standing charge for the Energia 41% off deal but with a non-smart plan? Or is it smart tarrifs only? its not published when you give them your MPRN and then they ask for more details that look like actually signing you up if you click through. It says the EAB is €1,163 which is a good deal but would be nice to know the breakdown of it as I use a lot of night units.

I had a join date of March 9th in my email. i had changed to a newer offer half way through the year which extended it to March 31st. The letter, I glanced at a month ago and it probably ended up in the bin. Had in my head some time in March.

Surely some Boardsie will know someone working in BWG that can get a link to post up here for renewal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,502 ✭✭✭bren2001

The link may not be a generic link like before. It may require some form of an email login or it may be unique.

There are a variety of ways it can be implemented to heavily reduce non-BWG sign ups.

Ah refund issued today after a follow up email. CRU wasn’t necessary and I couldn’t be arsed chasing them for the compensation I might be due

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 254 ✭✭bonjurkes

I managed to take a look at these new Certa / Affinity / BWG deals but they are all "variable" tariffs, no "fixed price" mentioned in their titles. I couldn't see the prices so I didn't want to risk to signing up something I don't know the unit rates.

In any case, knowing that they are "platinum variable rates" and not fixed would make Energia Axa deal more appealing as it's not fixed rates either.

Can you please share the link that you used to get a look?

Question… Is there any reason not to switch to a smart meter?

I did the price comparison thing on switcher.ie and the cheapest plans used smart meters. I remember last time I checked about them here a couple of years ago people were warning against them. Anything I should be aware of?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 898 ✭✭✭autumnalcore

If you use a lot of night units, non smart plans are still cheaper. The gap is narrowing it was ridiculous in the first two years. Early adopters got shafted.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,056 ✭✭✭✭OmegaGene

do whatever suits your usage, smart meters have their benefits for loads of people

"not to switch" ⇒ No reason for that AFAIK.

I'm going to accept it and I'm going to stay on a non-smart day/night plan until I see a smart plan that suits me better.

Just to weigh, I switched to a smart meter and Electric Ireland are now refusing to sign me up to the non-smart day/night plan.

    The day/night rates are

    image.png

The equivalent smart meter option is as below:

    image.png

The day rate is 0.054c cheaper, night rate 0.809c more expensive and also increased peak rate. The total cost per kwh is higher on the smart rate.

In all likely hood the lower standing charge will make the smart rate cheaper but I was told I would continue having the option of non smart rates when the meter was installed.

This is the email I received back from Bonkers when I selected the day/night rate:
