Fully agreed. He is to Man Utd, what Salah is to Liverpool. When he doesn't perform, the team doesn't perform, when he does, the team does.... both examples shown to be true today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,358 ✭✭✭eigrod

So, in the league, Fernandes has performed just 10 times this season and Salah’s performed 21 times ? Poor enough return by Fernandes?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,041 ✭✭✭doc_17

No. You got that wrong. But I like your attempt.

Le Tissier at Southampton is a closer comparison. Star player vastly out performing the rest of his team mates in a bottom half team, and the source of all the goals within that team.

I'm enjoying the fact that Arsenal are causing such dislike.

Well done to Newcastle yesterday. They could figure in the race next season.

It’s fairly clear that Maresca said something first, he approached Timber, hand covering his mouth.

20 odd points off the pace is a lot to make up, especially with European football next season now. Conference league might not take too much out of them, but it's likely 6th will actually get them into Europa - and if they sneak into that 5th CL spot I think they'd really struggle to play CL ball and maintain decent league form. it really really hurt them last time they tried.

All depends on the financial rules & the decision on City.

The whole point of sports washing is getting the limelight in the western world, Yasir Al-Rumayyan was there yesterday of course & very few media outlets condemning Saudi Arabia.

Newcastle fully deserve the success especially the fans but we live in such crap times where vast money removes all moral values.

They would spend a billion in a transfer window if they get away with it, no different to LIV golf where money is no object.

I'm finding it hard to get on board with. I don't get what we're supposed to dislike so much?

I mean, I remember 1989, but in recent years I don't get the issue?

I mean I saw fellow Liverpool fans wanting City to win the league near the end of last season when it was between them and Arsenal. Now I don't consider City a rival club either, but you don't like seeing them buy success in the way they have so seeing people wanting them to win to prevent....Arsenal....made no sense to me. It's not like it's United or Everton.

What is it about Arsenal we're supposed to dislike?

I agree with your post but you's have to ask the person who made the claim ie machiavellianme.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,440 ✭✭✭✭8-10

Sure but you're saying that you like them being disliked

Surely you'd want to know the reason before liking it or not

It's not like they're winning anything, they're still in 2 competitions this year but I wouldn't bet on them winning either.

They like finishing top 4 every year. That's about it. It's hardly offensive or something to like.

And, I feel the same about Spurs for the record, it's not like I hate one and not the other I just don't see why either would cause the level of hate we seem to be seeing.

I do like it because when they're doing that we're relevant. No point in them disliking Southampton.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,440 ✭✭✭✭8-10

    Ah OK got it.

I think it's just online stuff really.

Bruno is more like Utd's modern day Gerrard.

The player is a cut above what's around him for the most part. There have been times when the club has also had other quality players around him but never put the full puzzle together to be truly successful.

Without him Utd wouldn't be picking up the odd cup win.

Bruno will likely also end his Utd career without the big one in the PL. He deserves more but I don't know if Utd will recover quickly enough for him to get his hands on the title unfortunately. He'll be 31 at the start of next season..

My 2cents worth is people only really started disliking them just over 2 years ago. Anyone can say player x or y is a **** or your manager is one but its nothing really to do with that.

City winning the league was easily shrugged off but Arsenal coming from relatively nowhere (while spending big) didnt sit well with fans of the 2 biggest Irish supported clubs especially.

It did seem mental to me especially that many United fans were up for City last season in the run in because as an Arsenal fan I could never ever want Spurs to win anything (feeling mutual and rightly so).

Liverpool fans probably felt hard done by (understandably) that Klopp only had one league title with such a fantastic team playing fantastic football and certainly didnt want Arsenal matching that (by besting City)

Cheslea fans I dont know… I guess its a London thing as I would be surprised if there was too many Irish Chelsea fans.

Anyway thats just my opinion and certainly not looking to start an argument.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,440 ✭✭✭✭8-10

Yeah it's bonkers. I can only talk from the Liverpool perspective but if there's any team to complain about for Klopp not winning more it's City. It's by no means Arsenal!

So to see fans actively want City to win ahead of them was bizarre, but again I think online sentiment might skew it. In person most of the fans I know either wanted Arsenal to win, or didn't care either way.

This season though I don't think there's that much hate for Arsenal is there? Less than previous years

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,943 ✭✭✭ronjo

Probably not… As it was Liverpool v Arsenal (at least for a week or so :D) I think the hatred was shared equally among others.

I would guess the majority of "neutrals" would find a Liverpool collapse now hilarious even if it meant Arsenal winning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,865 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

As a united fan I'd have Arsenal win the league anyday over our main rivals.

It would take a collapse for the ages for Liverpool to lose the PL title from here

I would doubt there aren't many rival fans who wouldn't find that highly amusing.

There's 9 games left and they are 12 points ahead of a team who are dropping points on the regular.
Genuinely think Liverpool could lose 5/6 out of the 9 and still get over the line.

You'd have to be dead inside to not find Liverpool somehow not winning from here hilarious if it came to pass because it's so unlikely

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,440 ✭✭✭✭8-10

Maybe the only questionable one would be Spurs fans, would they really want Arsenal to do it from here just because it's hilariously against Liverpool? I have no idea just would seem a stretch

100% any other rival would be happy to see it happen, everyone bar Liverpool fans wants the gap to start closing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 1,051 ✭✭✭Infoseeker1975

Arsenal are on target to get 76pts and we are over 75% of the way through the season, no reason to think this will not be close to their final total.

Liverpool need 2 or maybe 3 wins from 9 games; 5 are at home and there is an away trip to Leicester.

Since just before Xmas when Chelsea had to beat Everton to go top and failed to do so, it has not really been that close, hard to see Arsenal winning 9 on the bounce with CL games to Real Madrid combined with Pool failing to win 5 of their last 9 matches. Far more likely it will be over a few games before the end of the season.

It will be an incredible achievement by Slot taking over from Klopp with no additions to a tired squad together for a while.

I don't think Palace and Spurs are winning the league this year 😉

Seriously though I'd rather United/Arsenal/ Spurs win the league over City anyday.

I don't think Palace and Spurs are winning the league this year

    That's just nasty!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,813 ✭✭✭IncognitoMan

I agree but this is not a tired Liverpool squad. They just did their midfield rebuild the previous summer.

That refreshed a team that still has 4 World class players in it.

It's this summer they will potentially need to act as 3 out of the 4 world class players are out of contract

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 1,051 ✭✭✭Infoseeker1975

Personally I think I would be tired if I worked with Klopp for several years, then a new manager comes in and in particular the 3 players with less than a year left on their contract, you could not blame them for giving 90%.

All of the top players when there is less than 12 months left have massive power and their agents are smelling a massive pay out.

I think that part is very impressive re Slot as with those 3 players being in the situation they were when he got the job and taking over from Klopp, as a Pool fan I thought it would not have taken much to not get top 4.

The midfield rebuild was in the summer of 2023 and Gravenberch did not play that often under Klopp.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,825 ✭✭✭joebloggs32

Their champions league involvement will have a big say.

Arsenal are practically a dead cert now for top 4. They may prioritise their assault on the champions league.

They're gonna be in a good position for it too. Martinelli already back, and Saka due back after the International break. Madrid's a huge challenge obviously, but if they can find a way to get past 'em they've every chance of going all the way.

Guardiola is a super coach and his teams are brilliant at what they do, but by jaysus it’s nowhere near the best football English football has ever seen.

It’s horrible to watch. Give me exciting, attacking football over suffocating the opposition and endless sideway passing and don’t forget the tactical fouling. I hated it at Barcelona too, so don’t think I’m just having a go at city.
