Chuck Shumer rolling over without a fight was in itself criminal behaviour.

Apparently in the US, people are getting outraged at the fundraising emails they are receiving from elected Dems where they talk about the damage Trump is doing and ask for funding to fight it. Then for people to see what happened in the Senate last week.

with respect to the violation of the court order. The Admin is using the fact that the planes were in the air over international waters and so the court order didn't apply to them. Stephen Miller was apparently involved in the strategy to ignore it and there's suggestions the court could look to hold the admin in contempt.

And if he then decided he needed a nice new base off the west of Europe to protect the Atlantic and sent troops to "annex" Ireland, you would be fine with that too?

Yes. Important things like the price of eggs shows Trump hears the concerns of ordinary voters.

    Oh wait...

Would the courts give the order to arrest Trump?

    Militarily? No

But how long would the US economy last if every country stopped buying US products/produce?

How long would their military last outside of the US if every country refused to allow their bases and refused to let any of their ships/subs dock for fuel?

Imagine if the EU and China stopped using the $ for trade.

The US could quite easily be brought to its knees through these actions.

Putting it simply, if Trump put boots on the ground in Greenland to provide, as he says, for the national security and other interests of the US [which are not at risk] it would mean that as the major partner in NATO, the US would have proven that it had, for effects and purposes, walked away from its membership in NATO, and consequently that it was no longer a trustworthy partner to the other countries in NATO.

If the other members of NATO decided to take steps to provide security to each of the remaining trustworthy members of the NATO pact and their territory, it would be up to the combined houses of the US congress to bring their peace-loving president to heel to avoid an outbreak of hostilities and prevent him from annexing [to quote from his own words] Danish territory.

It's telling, and hardly coincidental, that Trump has used the same word that Putin is using to describe the seizure of territory action he undertook with Russian military forces in Ukraine.

If courts make a finding against Trump's administration, who is in charge of actually enforcing it? Is it the US Department of Justice? Because that is currently headed up by a Trump loyalist - Pam Bondi. Is it federal marshals? I understand Trump sacked quite a number of them shortly after taking office. The FBI? Their chief wrote a children's book about the 'plot' against Trump.

The great thing about acting unlawfully is that you don't have to wait for approval from institutions of law. You just go ahead and do your business and deal with the consequences later on. The crucial difference with the Trump administration is that not only can they move faster than the law, when needed, but that they have a huge hand in how the law is administered and will only seek to consolidate their power in this area meaning that the law never actually catches up with them. That's presuming the laws aren't just completely rewritten to validate everything they do, anyway.

As for the Democrats as a party, they're not fit for purpose as opposition to what's going on. There are a few noble actors out in the left wing of the party like Bernie Sanders and AOC who are doing their bit to raise the alarm, but the actual party establishment who have their hands on the party's overall direction of travel just appear completely spineless right now, apparently set on a kind of beige business-as-usual attitude in the face of what amounts to an authoritarian takeover of the United States in slow motion, and this isn't hyperbole. I'm not sure if there's a batch of EOs being signed by Trump where you couldn't pick out one that is deeply troubling and directly intended to tighten his grip on the machinery of power in an unprecedented way, and I don't see any particular sign of this abating. I'm just wondering what kind of fireworks are going to go off at the point where Trump and his team feel like they have all their ducks in a row and their power cannot be challenged any longer?

Nah, we're nowhere near something like that. There's way too many layers between him and any actions like that to be considered at this point.

ugh, Conor McGregor on X says he's meeting Trump at the White House for St Patrick's Day.

Not sure if a joke or not.

Well, he did say that he'd be in the mosh pit at Limp Bizkit and that never happened, so my outlook would be guarded.

That draft-dodging pussy has removed a Medal of Honor recipient from the Department of Defence website because he is black, in his anti-DEI policies.

    What a prize prick.

The Supreme Court ruled he has presidential immunity so he's nothing to worry about. The courts could hold people carrying out illegal orders in contempt, however as was mentioned earlier, who would actually enforce it? The DOJ, FBI etc... all Trump supporters at the helm.

The only group that can actually do anything would be Congress and impeachment. Judging by the spineless Dem senators recently, he's nothing to fear there either.

The stock market has lost trillions .Public services and social security are being cut .People rely on 401k pension funds to pay pensions when they retire when the stock market falls the value of the pension fund falls .the price of gold is going up . investment in public infrastructure is being cut as federal workers are being sacked. .This will effect the quality of life for every one in America .

Federal workers are the ones who fight forest fires and protect against extreme weather events they are needed more than ever as climate change continues .

An expert could make an argument that theres little money being saved more work will be done by expensive private contractors versus low paid federal workers .

Federal workers spend money in hotels shops cafes restaurants when you sack 100,000 workers there's less money to be spent in those places . A lot of highly trained specialist workers

    will never be replaced .

A crashed stock market never stays crashed. The losses will be fully recovered. The only losers will be those who sell at the wrong time.

Markets go up and down, granted. But when it goes as low as we are seeing; there are some that can afford to wait it out and will benefit from downturns so that when the market returns they've been able to get more at lower cost while their existing assets have returned to their original value or quite possible gained further value.

am ‘looking forward’ with great interest at how The Donald will handle the cyclones/ tornados ripping through the heart of America - from South to north - judging by the maps on the TV of the areas affected.

-will he make a statement that he will only support those states that voted for him?

    - will he say that it’s all hands on deck by the federal workers - even though their numbers have been massively reduced by Musk and blame Biden if things do not ‘work out’?

    - will he say nothing as it’s solely a matter for the governor of each affected state . Saying ‘ if ye had tied down yer roofs they would have not got blown away’. Also saying ‘ you grew trees to respond to one of Biden’s climate change programmes so what did you expect when a small camp fire takes off ?

-Will he manage to fein empathy along with visiting the areas ?

I get the impression that the people mainly affected were Trump voters in that they lived mainly in trailer parks and owned buildings, eg shops , garages , that were not solidly built. And how will they feel when it’s all cleaned up and whatever help had been given?

    Interesting times ahead

Another challenge for Trump that he would prefer that it did not happen. Then we have all the negative reaction in those town meetings manipulated meetings as far as the GOP is concerned

The shipping out of circa 225 Venezualans ! To El Salvador raises a lot of questions . The operation looked very clinical/staged . I assume that it was maxed to get the most publicity - look what I am doing about these illegals/criminals!!!!

    Questions such as :-

    (1) they were all supposed to be from two drug gangs so how were they picked up. Were they all already in Jail having gone through the legal system and found guilty.
    (2) if already in jail and were not US citizens why were they not shipped back to their own state . Why did it need an EO to do so

    (3) If they were not sourced from one above then where were they picked up from? Were farms raided or what?

    (4) if they were not criminal illegals - as per international law- what was the purpose of fitting them all out in white gear , white runners and all getting a crew cut?

    (5) The president of El Salvador was praised by Pete Hegeseth for his assistance/ cooperation in fighting crime/druglords. I wonder what he got paid for providing the service. El Salvador , apparently, has 40,000 new spaces for the ‘project’

in summary, OR is that the way the Americans do things - especially with regards to point no four? From a pure technical / look at what I am doing about illegals perspective it was VERY IMPRESSIVE

One thing the Americans follow very closely is the stock market as in a country without a safety net anyone who is not homeless and on street has to self manage their 401k retirement funds

I suspect as we now enter 4th week the slide will resume today as he is doubling down on tarrifs and uncertainty, there’s just no end in sight

Tesla was just downgraded to a target at half its current value
