I agree. Messy and convoluted. Leaves referees open to huge criticism too. Imagine one of these subjective calls playing a big role in some semifinal or final scenario.

Have people seen Tim O'Leary's latest letter to Jarlath Burns about financial corruption in the Mayo County Board ?

He alleges theft, tax evasion and false accounting.

I wouldn't be surprised if there are irregularities (and that's not just in Mayo but other counties also, esp in previous years when a lot of gates were cash-only) but yer man O'Leary is a gobsh*te of the highest order so it's difficulte to take him seriously.

A lot of claims in there any of us not serving on the board wouldn't have a clue on the veracity of, but when the letter goes on to outline situations we can judge from the outside…

"Mr Touhy’s statement could be viewed as an open admission that the current Board and its advisors are unable to manage the most basic business activity which amounts to the preparation and approval of expenses. Mr Touhy is clearly trying to deflect the story away from Mayo GAA and placing the issue back at the door of GAA HQ and the wider GAA Community."

… it becomes clear there's at least quite a bit of (potentially malicious, potentially blissful) ignorance involved.

We know that every county investigated on these matters had comparable issues, we know that from those initial findings investigations were planned nationally and following Feargal McCormack's announcement at Congress we know that the GAA & Revenue agreed a self-review of all 26 counties were agreed with Revenue to cover declarations for everyone from '21 to '24.

Trying to suggest this one is somehow Mayo specific or down to incompetence from the Mayo County Board is incredibly inaccurate. It's demonstrably a national issue. When that one area that can be judged as an outsider is so far off the mark… it certainly raises questions on the accuracy or veracity of anything else contained. Especially when coming from a source that has become well known for their petulant and petty attacks on those same individuals named.

That said, things like the concerns raised by Liam Moffatt on Sponsorship or concerns previously raised by Liam Horan & the other members of the Strategic Action Plan Committee ( https://www.mayogaablog.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/MayoGAAStrategic-1-27.pdf - many of which still remain unaddressed to this day) are very genuine issues and certainly worthy of a lot more questions and attention. They're just lost in the noise of a lot of petty nonsense in that letter, which makes it very difficult to separate any genuine issues from personal vendettas.

This is a an outstanding piece of work by Tim O’Leary which appears to be fully backed up by a firm of Forensic Accountants. I was only recently reading the Sunday Independent and the Sunday Times which has covered elements of what is in the letter. There is absolutely no way these papers would cover these matters if there wasn’t solid evidence to support what is in the letter. By all accounts Tim O’Leary is a very intelligent individual with an honours degree in Maths so numbers come easy to him. From other information which is circulating online I see that he is represented by Maltin https://www.maltinpr.com/ who are one of the leading PR companies in London. It is also clear that Tim isn’t operating alone as in a press release before Christmas he stated that he was representing a group of Mayo Supporters who are based all over the world. Maybe on this occasion Mayo GAA have crossed the wrong individual or maybe individuals. Time for Jarlath Burns to step up and get control of this matter.

Way,Way too much time on your hands Tim.

    Get help.

**** off Tim. You were a prick when you thought you could buy Mayo GAA like some trophy soccer club.

You're an even bigger prick now that you're trying to tear it down out of spite.

If you actually stood by facts alone, you'd probably put together a good case, but you can't help but let your vindictive side win out.

Put your money into Leyton Orient or whoever your team is, and just drop the bullshit.

Yeah, he looks back to where he was before the '21 final.

    Nice finish to the half

I must say, some very nice stuff from Mayo in this game, hopefully they can keep it up now

Decent first half. A bit more ruthlessness and we'd be further ahead. The new rules have definitely stretched defences and created extra space for forwards.

Joyce will be sweating after saying Galway were targeting the league. The last team he wants to meet in a league final is Mayo.

Another win , will forgive the last 10/15 mins has a lot of changes made at that stage. Were in a good place again with established players regaining form and some new lads bedding in nicely.

It would take some turn of events for us to make the final.

A Donegal win now against Tyrone and I'd be delighted. Safety secured and move onto Championship preparation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,519 ✭✭✭MacDanger

Good away win but Derry had some bad wides in that 2nd half. D1 status as good as retained which wasn't looking too likely after Galway hammered us.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,429 ✭✭✭✭km79

All that needs to happen is for donegal to lose today - likely

Us to beat donegal - very likely

And one of Galway or Dublin to lose their last game - Galway gone to Kerry; Dublin away to Tyrone who could be fighting for their lives if they beat donegal !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,051 ✭✭✭✭PARlance

Maybe I'm just more pessimistic by nature.

    (Assuming Tyrone beat Donegal)

If we lose to Donegal and Armagh and Tyrone both win, we would likely get relegated on points difference if Kerry beat Galway.

Jim mightn't want a league final but I wouldn't put us as very likely to beat anyone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,853 ✭✭✭HBC08

Looks like we might need a win or draw from last game.

If Armagh and Tyrone win their last game then we will need a result from what I can make out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,657 ✭✭✭Blackjack

Yes its an odd one but it's in our own hands.

If we win and Tyrone and Kerry Win we make the League Final.

If we Lose, and Tyrone, Kerry and Armagh win, we're relegated unless we have a better scoring difference than Armagh, which we are currently 6 points better off than.

Not safe yet by any measure.

it’s more likely Tyrone and Derry will be relegated based on performances so far .
    Kerry to win .
    Dublin to win
    Armagh to win .
then mayo Donegal . Donegal to win .
have I got the match ups right there ?.

It is almost destined to come down to a frantic final few minutes in McHale Park that will see us moments away from a final or being relegated.
