Social welfare scammers

All you going to get here is some story of how their cousin, brother or brother in law who never worked a day in their life and is half shacked up with a lone parent and they or all heading of on a 10k cruise while they themselves work 7 day a week and have nothing or some variant of that story generally the stories revolve around female lone one way or anther.

That's been driven by the increase in young people people who have never worked, anxiety, depression spectrum disorders apparently

 I don't see how someone would is physically and mentally healthy want to be on €240 if they really had the ability to earn much more.

If you're only getting €240 per week, you've either still serving your apprenticeship, or you've failed training as a welfare lifer!

For the welfare lifestyle to be liveable, you need a medical card, council house (or HAP), and ideally some qualifying dependants so you get higher money for them. Disability and the travel pass that comes with it is also very desirable.

Even with that, to get really a reasonable lifestyle (eg with some overseas holidays each year), you need some kind of side gig that lets you earn a bit, without coming to the attention attention of revenue, welfare or the guards. Even better if it's allowed by the benefit you're on, so you're not nervous about getting caught.

I'd have to disagree. 41 years in the workforce and never been healthier or wealthier. It'll come to and end but so far so good.

A good job can indeed be very good for your mental health. A sh1t job, which would cover most jobs available to those with low education and qualifications is a different story.

Of course that would be true for many but a large proportion of the workforce are putting their bodies and minds through hell on a daily basis.

It's a small minority that enjoy their jobs, most dont like their jobs and would quit if they could afford to.

What's the current welfare rate?

Having a completely shite health system contributes to the amount of people who are in need of financial help with regard to disabilities.

The Welfare scammers I have seen who are the best at it have great balance in their lives. They maximise the freebies they can get out of the system. They also work but just 15 or 20 hours a week, well paid in cash and outside the tax system. They have the best of both worlds, high income, a job but not enough hours to be damaging.

Leo Varadkar made a big deal about cracking down on the welfare spongers here when he first came to prominence in FG. There's always an ongoing effort by the Dept of Social Welfare here (yeah, yeah, Social Protection, I know!) to crack down on scammers but it's the system itself that's at fault by allowing perfectly healthy adults to claim lifelong dole simply by claiming they can't get a job. For which read: I can't get a job that pays me more than welfare for doing little or no work.

You can say what you like about our problems with immigration - and I'm of the view that the current system is a farce - but many of the immigrants who came here in the first wave years ago, particularly the Poles and Chinese, worked every job they could get and fair play to them for it.
