    actually that’s a fine point.

I’d agree that both 10’s are in a worse position now than they were coming into this tournament.

It's not "on them" if a guy decides to leave after a season where we started 2/7 Irish matches though. I mean, Will Connors briefly got ahead of VdF in 2021 and then the guy came back to be world player of the year.

I don't think they have handled it particularly well either for what its worth. But coaches, like players, make mistakes and "throwing in the towel" after one season, mostly under an interim coach, is on the player ultimately. Plenty of players have gone through periods of not being first choice.

(throwing in the towel potentially not appropriate terminology for taking 600k£ a year. It's a stupid offer if true and would probably turn the heads of internationals even. I certainly wouldn't judge JC for taking it, I just wouldn't blame anyone else for it)

what do we reckon the IRFU will offer jack money wise ?

Would love to know how it would stack up to 600k

Going 6-2 really put Crowley, and the team overall, in a **** spot. He never got a chance to come at 10 to try and have an impact. I would've liked to have seen him given a chance to take the game by scruff and show he what he could do.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 29,581 Mod ✭✭✭✭Podge_irl

Agreed, I'm not a fan of 6-2 benches in general. Would have liked to see Crowley come on at 50/60 to change things up. I would think they might learn from that though.

300k€ maybe? Not sure anyone in Irish rugby would be on 700k€ that is (supposedly, still don't believe it) on offer.

There's simply no way jack Crowley is being offered the same contract as handre pollard was on.

    This is all delightful fantasy

Crowley is a significantly better outhalf than Pollard

If Crowley does leave it is exactly what the IRFU deserve and indeed the Irish Mgmt. Disgracefully handled through the 6N. However I have a feeling if Andy Farrell was in charge he would have handled the situation much better. At least we are rid of Easterby after Italy game, I think the guy has lost a huge amount of respect over-the-counter last 6 weeks

What a whinge fest! Crowley has a few more caps under his belt, came on and played very well and is still very much part of the picture for Ireland. As for Prendergast, if he is paying attention to social media he needs his head examined. Like any pro athlete not allowing social media bs intrude is part of your responsibility and there are plenty of lads around the camp to let him know that along with sports psychologists and general team policies. He is playing for his country ffs, that comes with a lot of pressure and he is seemingly well up for it. If Crowley bails over this then good riddance. But everything I hear in media about his attitude tells me he is a balls to the wall competitor and understands what he signed up for. I hope he shoots the lights out for Munster and Im looking forward to interpros.

There is no point in discussing any selection that management make so as we are not privy to knowing the players as well as they do.

Just let them at it then & don't question any decision that's made

Sure why do we need an alt at 7 when we can move our 8 there.

Why did it take until the Wales game to get Jack Boyle into the 23

Any theories on why our lineout was do bad in the AI's...and handling as well

It's ok the coaches know best & yes before you say it they do know more than all of us but are not immune from questioning.

Besides this place is ment to be a discussion forum

Munster fans need to stop being so precious about Crowley, its embarrassing

Who is embarrassed by it, are you? Are you also embarrassed how the Leinster fans are reacting to any bit of criticism of Sam, they're reaction to posts on match threads must leave you scarlet.

Yeah, its a bit embarrassing when people can't understand reasonable criticism of players, no matter who they are.

If there is another point to be made on this after 6 weeks of crying on here Im open to it. But this is more repetitive than chatgpt at this point, literally everything has been said over and over again, particularly the bullying and unfrairness and lunatic versions of coaching decisions made for reasons other than optimising team performance, right or wrong. Impunging coaches motives is pathetic and this is where the discussion has ended up.

I'm absolutely delighted they were optimising team performance, if they weren't I could well be heading to Rome to a dead rubber.

Dude, Pollard is bang average. He's been a complete wash for Leicster. Crowley is much more capable OH than him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,031 ✭✭✭ersatz

Well, as it turns out they weren't but they thought they were.

    Put yourself in Crowley place.
from the highs of the 2024 6 nations and the South African tour to the lows of the autumn and this 6 nations ,
It’s quiet a come down and I think if it was Frawley taking his spot he could probably deal with it , but when it’s an unproven 22 year old who is so out of their depth, it’s very hard to take for Crowley.
as it would be for any of us in our own jobs.

If the Irish management don’t fancy Crowley, which they don’t, then he should go. There is nothing worse staying in a job where you are not wanted

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,868 ✭✭✭✭phog

The IRFU would be mad to let Crowley go (obviously they can't match the rumoured Leicester salary) I know Farrell & Co put their eggs in one basket with Sam but for Humpreys to follow suit would be a bit mad, especially as it seems provinces aren't allowed sign a NIQ outhalf so his view must be that we need more than Sam for the foreseeable future

to me this reads as highly speculative. You have no idea that Crowley feels this way. It’s sport, SP is in his second season of champions cup and came into the 6 N on 4 caps, 3 starts and no losers. He’s not lost a CC match nor an Ireland match until Saturday. Crowley has known there’s a question mark over his position in the pecking order sicnr the wc and everything we know about his says he’s a team player who works his ass off and has a very positive attitude. It’s pro sport, nothing like your job. There are 40 guys looking for 15 spots on Saturday, if it gets too much it’s the wrong gig.

Honest insightful thoughts from Brian O’Driscoll on the obsessed subject of 10 in Off the Ball. Balanced journalism a rare on this one

Rumour has it Crowley was offered 600k to move to Leicester. Irish contracts started at 400k a few years ago if I'm not mistaken. Not sure what they start at now but I assume they're a little higher

The 6N was sold to us as an opportunity to train 2 out halves but the coaches have only given one of them any real chance

Eh no - Pollard bang average? He's a total test beast.

If you judge him on his short stint in Leicester then what about being top points scorer in the WC in 2019 etc etc…

    Was it? By whom?

We were told this Six Nations was about developing depth at 10, but in reality, it’s been the same old story, one guy gets all the meaningful minutes while the other is left twiddling his thumbs. Crowley has barely been given a proper shot, and when he has, it’s been in short, meaningless cameos or out of position. How’s that supposed to build depth? If the plan was genuinely to develop two out-halves, you’d expect a fair split in game time, or at least a real opportunity for both to prove themselves. Instead, one guy has been handed the keys, even when the attack has looked lifeless, while the other is left wondering what he did wrong.

I don't remember ever being told that by anyone.

I think a lot of people (including myself) assumed that is what would happen. We also have no idea how things are going to go next season for example.

If the Irish management don’t fancy Crowley that’s fine. That’s their choice. I think Pendergast should start against Italy as to not do so would be wrong. The Management have gone all in on him and should continue to back him now.

Crowley also has to make a decision, Farrell is not going anywhere, does he want to stick around as a back up or open a new chapter in his life.

it’s not the end of the world if he does move and any move should not be used to attack Crowley, prendergast or Farrell.

    That’s my take.
