    4ms latency to where???

    I have 500MB fibre with 4ms to Microsoft, 2ms to Google and 4ms to Cloudflare

    What are you pinging and what is the current latency?

    Latency is very much server dependent, along with hop count. As others have already said, a test on Microsoft might return 2ms, a test to AN other could be multiples more.

    What service/server are you using that requires such low latency? And can always guarantee it's reachable via a single hop?

    In general any of the Fibre to the home providers will have similar low latency. Lower than FTTC or Virgins part fibre network. I'm also curious as to what you need such low latency for?!

    Lads ye need soft eyes, the OP doesnt know anything except what they've heard or been told and that should be obvious from the question. So if you want to help, then do, instead of being a pedant.

    OP all wired broadband providers will provide low latency unless its mobile broadband (router needs a sim card).

    SIRO is the best in terms of latency, with virgin media DOCSIS/cable broadband and Eir's older DSL phone line broadband being a close second.

    So anyone selling fiber to the home (FTTH/SIRO) is your best bet for low latency, and for upload speed it depends but they all exceed 15mb/s. They wont tell you what the upload speed is at all actually, but its 10% of the download speed for all the Siro providers and about 15% for Virgin Media.

    And where do OpenEir and NBI sit in your ranking? AFAIK they would be equivalent to SIRO.

    Also I don't think ping is entirely dependent on FTTH vs DSL vs Cable or even which FTTH wholesaler, your ISP's backhaul and peering arrangements will also factor in.

    OP on Vodafone SIRO right now I get 4ms to Microsoft (but for my first few tests was getting 13ms as it was going through 13 hops and ending up in London for some weird reason). For Google I am getting 3-4ms and for Cloudflare 13ms.

    Eir's Network on OpenEir has amazing pings and has always had since the introduction of FTTH.

    I get 1ms for Google.

    Pinging www.google.ie [2a00:1450:400b:c01::5e] with 32 bytes of data:

    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
    Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 1ms, Maximum = 1ms, Average = 1ms

    and about 10ms to UK servers

    Pinging uk2.thg.com [185.217.104.227] with 32 bytes of data:
    Reply from 185.217.104.227: bytes=32 time=10ms TTL=244
    Reply from 185.217.104.227: bytes=32 time=10ms TTL=244

    Reply from 185.217.104.227: bytes=32 time=11ms TTL=244

    Ping statistics for 185.217.104.227:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
    Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 10ms, Maximum = 11ms, Average = 10ms

    The main reason some people would want latency is low would be for online gaming. Pings can't go much lower than this.
