Near Misses Volume 2 (So close you can feel it)

Well his employer got a copy this morning too, I was pretty calm in my exchange with him as I've learnt if you go in guns blazing you just get that back. I just asked if he believed he gave me enough space and when he said he did I let him know I could have touched the back of the bus and that it was too close. He started telling me he'd been driving buses for years and I told him that was irrelevant he still needs to give me enough space, then he switched to the stance that I wouldn't be there if he hadn't given me enough, I told him that was an appalling attitude for a professional driver and would his employer agree. He said they would so I said fair enough I'll send them the video and went on my way.

Just one email back from Kavanaghs to confirm the reg, which was in the Subject line, body of the email and video itself, so I don't expect too much from them! I was thinking today last week must have been a one off for crap drivers as the first 30 secs of this clip from this afternoon show including an about as good as you could expect pass from the same bus but different driver. The camera doesn't do it justice, quite how close the last pr1ck came.

Hate that section of road tnegun. Closest I've come to being cleaned out was on the stretch from Carton to the dunboyne road heading to Maynooth.

In more recent news, they've closed the cycle path in Celbridge, along the stretch where the 'Amenities center' is being built. No warning, no access to the road to bypass the contruction, just a sign saying cycle lane closed and a barrier across the footpath. It has lead to some interesting close passes this morning on the approach to the motorway.

Why would that be the last you ever heard of it? Sounds like closing the door for any future checking/following up by you.

He f*ckin did it again this morning.

Was cycling up the hill out of Kilmacanogue, Calary Hill? And I looked down at my right leg and there was the bonnet of a car right there. I was only doing maybe 15kmh. And he was doing about the same but trying to squeeze past me against oncoming traffic. He ended up driving into me and I had to put a foot down on the kerb. I was already far enough to the left.

Ridiculous behaviour. He ended up stopping then and I was lucky enough not to go over his bonnet. He just waved sorry then and drove on. I wasn't aware enough to grab his reg. Few cars behind stopped to check I was fine. Which I was since I didn't go over.

Think it maybe time to invest in a camera. But not sure if I get a front or rear facing one as a start.

That climb out of Kilmac past the quarry up to Sugarloaf is lethal and best avoided, I'd always go up the old long hill..

Yeap whole road is lethal with the bends, best to take primary position on the road so anyone coming around the corner in a vehicle sees what's ahead…

Had a pair of cyclists coming towards me two abreast in a two-way lane. Was expecting one to file in behind his partner right up to the last minute - most people do though I'd prefer they just use the lane as indicated in the first place - but he wound up forcing me to squeeze in between him and a big crowd of pedestrians on an adjoining walkway.

Less than a hand's breadth to spare, I was very fortunate noone stepped out in front of me.

You don't think someone going the wrong way up a cycle lane is part of the picture no? I certainly won't be taking the risk in future anyway. a lot of irresponsible road users out there

to be sure, I concede your victory here. that being resolved, do you think the other lad going the wrong way in the lane is part of the picture. Obviously going forward I can't rely on other users necessarily doing the right thing so I have to pull off to the side, but in the situation I was in there was nowhere for me to go, the pedestrian laneway, where im not supposed to be anyway, was full. this is why I'm using the word forced
