A narrow defeat won't be total disaster tonight. They have some tidy players. Slightly underachieving in La Liga with that squad.

Only Mkhitaryan on the bench, the first 11 is quality.

Going to have to miss the match with work. And I think I'm totally okay with that.

If we could hold it a 1 goal loss or possibly 2 then I think we might have a chance at OT next week. If we can keep them at bay up to half time we have a chance tonight

I would say if we lose 2-0 tonight that would be that. Playing at home doesn’t mean much for this team these days. RS would probably be capable of managing the return game to ensure it stays that way.

I’m gonna go with 1-1 tonight and hopefully a win in the second leg 🤷🏻‍♂️

Anything more than goal defeat and its game set match.

I be thrilled with draw although it would be very much 50/50 still.

Not going for Thuram the summer he was on a free was insane to me.
Bastoni and Dumfries are superb wing backs - which makes a massive difference in this formation. Getting nothing from the wing backs destroys the entire plan imo.

I reckon we're gonna get a hiding tonight

Inters squad if anything highlights that there's good players out there who won't cost an arm and a leg.

If you get recruitment right an awful lot will fall into place afterwards.

Utd are very rarely active in the free agent market and maybe that is because once agents see Utd involved they push for higher sign on fees, wages etc..

But every summer there's 3/4/5 players who end up out of contract who could do a very good job at Utd

    This summer's players who I wouldn't be against :

    Kimmich

    Jonathan David

    Sane

    Tah

    Anguissa

    Tyrick Mitchell

    Angel Gomes

    Calvert-Lewin

    Walker-Peters

    Aina

    Lamptey

    Roony Bardghji

    Sergio Reguilon

Now, some might have dropped off form wise etc.. But we can build out a much much better profile of player for Amorim style from that list.

Some good experience in there also that could come in and help take the load of the younger players.

Kimmich - currently payed 350k a week. Will likely have to accept less if he doesnt renew, but likely to still be huge wages.
David - not a bad shout, but I have to think there is something up with him. Decent record, no one has really looked at him.
Sane - injury issues, stuggled to make a consistent impact over the last while. IMO a 'classic' United signing. "But if we can help him rediscover his form"
Tah - good shout, but I think he is nailed on for Bayern if not already done.

Gomes I am not sure he fits the profile of player we need. We need highly physical players, imo.
DCL - what has he done in YEARS that we should be jumping on?
Reguilon - big no from me.
Lampety was hearelded before, was seemingly off for like 2m in the last window. Surely there are big red flags there.

I think Ineos will be much more focused on free transfers. They've done it at Nice and we're broke... I think we'll see a couple of frees at least.

Would imagine that they'll be looking at the likes of Jonathan Tah, Angel Gomes, and Jonathan David. Wages shouldn't be an issue there. Not the most exciting business but they would add to the squad.

Sane probably the one free agent who could (wouldn't bank on it though) make a big impact on the first team… but his wage demands wouldn't work I'd imagine.

    early kickoff this evening folks

Whatever they do in the summer, hope the athleticism in the squad can be improved. Too many of the starting players just don’t have the technical/mental upside to compensate for a lack of pace/physicality/fitness, at least consistently. That 442 video mentioned it’s a problem.

Emery took Gerrard's struggling squad and finished 7th with them, that in itself was some achievement, by all accounts give RA time, plenty of it.

I just look at the team we played vs Fulham for example and don't think it was anything that would givce confidence it would do better than it did.

But that is also impacted by Hojlund doing so very poorly, for example. I expected a lot more (anything at all) from him under Amorim. I also thought we would see a rejuvinated Rashford. and had hoped Mount would get fit.

Like on paper this side, with Zirkzee, Garnacho, Amad, Mainoo, Casemiro, Dalot, Maguire, Yoro, Shaw to back it up - on PAPER I think this side has a lot of potential and promise and i thought Amorim would get so much more out of them.

Thought this was a poor video, he essentially put on screen the worst team we picked all season and talked about how it won't work, sure he did mention it but that's all he talked about, he kept saying we didn't have a driving 10 without mentioning garnacho once who would and does make the runs a 10 does and Amad of course, already signed one wing back to fit the profile, oddly didn't talker about our CBS being way too slow, and then the bit about rashford and anothy doing what the 10s should while playing as wingers at their new clubs was real just a load of shite.

Im not saying he doesn't have bay points he is generally quite good I find but as I said basing the video off a team that will never see the pitch again together just so you can labour one point over and over and finish with o look at rashford and anothy they'd be perfect just felt the whole video was disingenuous tbh

i looked at it more in terms of what we lack, and other issues within the team. so not specifically to this game.

wing backs rarely progressing it forward.

no quality ball carriers in the team, maybe garnacho excepted.

and just a general lack of speed/aggression/athleticism which i think we've known about for ages.

and agreed re the CB's. they need to be braver and push up the pitch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,710 ✭✭✭Caustic

the team he kept referencing was the one from other other night though, all his (two) on pitch examples were with Erikson and Zirkzee.

We do need more ball carriers for sure but in 10s we have Amad, and Garnacho and added Dorgu.

The season long numbers are bad for sure but some of them are under ten hagg right who was all about quick transitions. I don't know what the numbers are but surely they should at least have been just under Amorims time at the club.

The squad lacks a lot more then runners and the injuries really haven't helped either another point nor really mentioned I don't know I feel our problems run a lot deeper and they really shoe horned in this one point and cherry picked all around it.

I guess expect more from him tbh

Man Utd: Onana, Mazraoui, De Ligt, Yoro, Dalot, Casemiro, Fernandes, Dorgu, Zirkzee, Garnacho, Hojlund.

Subs: Mee, Harrison, Lindelof, Eriksen, Heaven, Amass, Collyer.

I don't hate the starting line up, under the circumstances, but that bench is horrific.

Only Eriksen as anything approaching an attacking threat. Yay.

Hojlund up front….not good……maybe nacho does something.

Zirkzee has been improving lately, looks sharper and ran his bollox off at the weekend, hoping he keeps it up today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,301 ✭✭✭✭PARlance

Didn't think I'd get to watch it but here goes. We might nick a few goals from set pieces, the mascots are as tall as half the Sociedad team.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 377 ✭✭17togo

Interesting to see if the ball will be moved quicker from the back with maguire out. De ligt seems a bit more progressive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,710 ✭✭✭Caustic

Ya I looked at it and thought it's not awful could certainly do a job, if cas can have a decent game (and I thought the last day he did ok) we have a chance, need one of zirzkee and garnacho to be on form from the start hopefully both.

Big if bhr if we can avoid shooting ourselves in the door it's a team the could get a result maybe the pace of European football won't be as high as a normal premier league game too.

    I'm very cautiously hopeful
