PTSB and downloading statements

A minor irritant with PTSB: each month I download a statement into excel of my transactions for the previous month e.g. 1 February to 28 February. However the download always includes a couple of transactions from the current month e.g. 3 March.

I queried this with PTSB who state that the download includes transactions from when they are posted rather when they took place. Surely this is poor behaviour on their part. If I want to filter transactions between two specific dates, the date of certain ones being included or not depending on when PTSB gets around to dealing with them should be of no concern to me?

    Am I wrong?

Surely that's desired behaviour? If I use my card to purchase something on May 31st (a Saturday), and the transaction isn't processed on PTSB's side until the following Monday, I want it to show up in May's transactions, not June's

If you want more accurate information you need to keep control of your own records and regularly extract a bank reconciliation statement. There is no other way as you are the only one in the chain that has all the information.

Most people don't do this and in general are most interested in knowing how much money they have left on the account. So to meet this widely demanded service, many banks will report transactions when they become aware of them rather than on the valuation date.

Yes you are technically correct, but it is not what most customers want….

I have monthly downloads going back to 2008. When I was with Ulster Bank (and how I miss them!), monthly statements downloaded as per the parameters that I set e.g. transactions included in the time period 1-28 February as requested. It simply listed all posted transactions for the period specified and it did not add in extraneous transactions from a different month that were not asked for.

Of course I expect nothing less than PTSB. I see a notice on their website that their app will finally allow FaceID or other biometric authentication, some six/seven years after Ulster Bank had it on their excellent app. I raised it with them two years ago.

Well as you know Ulster Bank are no longer in the market. Perhaps someone here will suggest a different bank that might meet your needs better.
