The cost is big.. So trying to research as much as I can before commiting.

Has anyone here had it done and how effective has it been? Did you go up past soffit or just as far as soffit.. If so any issues?

Finally, any recommendations for Dublin? PMs welcome. Thanks all!

Yes, done now over 11 years.

Cavity fully filled (original was cavity wall), new windows moved out flush with outer wall surface, ewi up past soffit and down past ground level (900mm) to footings. 200mm rockwool batts. Superb job

    HOWEVER

It would have been as effective as an astray on a motorbike if we hadn't first dealt with the biggest heat loss problem in the house …. the lack of air tightness!

    Also interested.

Curious to know how you tackled the lack of air tightness? We have a very draughty house.

Hi, I had external wrap done on an 1970 extremely cold house 12 years ago. I didn’t replace the windows, they were only ten years old. The soffits weren’t replaced as builder said they were fine. The difference is remarkable, the house retains the heat.

So you didn't do any air tightness work? Good to know. My house is about half 1940s and half 2000s (small house with big extension about 25 yrs ago). Old part of the house hard to heat, new part somewhat OK.. Gas bill of 600 just to keep the kitchen/dining area warm (boiler on about 3.5hrs a day).

Is it realistic to think getting EWI and topping up attic insulation will make a very noticeable difference? When your radiators turn off, does the room retain the heat for a few hours after?

Any issues with cold bridges/damp patches on the inside walls? So your insulation stops where it meets the soffit (I. E. It doesn't go up beyond it into the attic area?).

    Thanks

Tested the house first to find / confirm the main issues and then remedied each one depending and what / where the issue was. (it helps though that I am trained and very familiar with air tightness testing, thermal imaging etc).
