well you picked a good one and will test me. The os is define os and it may have openatv on it as well. So press and hold power button, you may get an option.

but on pc as well. why did you chose that one?? of all boxes

    🙈🙈

I was looking for a very small one that would fit neatly behind a wall mounted tv and greasepalm found that one for me so said I would chance it.

WOS would have added the openvix but I didn't go with them as wasn't sure would there be customs charges.

Did I buy the wrong one?

The amazon de one I got has H.265 on the front lower left side.

The WOS one has dual os written in that spot.

    Blast.

You mean h265, where can you see dual on WOS can u link? I found it and yes wrong box.

But a lot of these boxes can be hacked, ie you can overwrite the OS but for this one I would not do it. Too risky.

It has a good dlna sever but you need to know how to set it up. You can access minidlna on vix and then change to dlna. However, NETWORKING is not my forte so can only do bits.

    Oh, OK- thanks for that.

Do you still reckon openvix is an option on it.

WOS have the option to add openvix on the dual one but no option to add it on the h.265

Its the same box and has an image in OpenVix images so it is supported.

If box is connected up and blank usb formatted on box and should show as EXT4 in mounts.

Menu -setup - vix -image manager -yellow button and does it show OpenVix to choose from.

click on 6.7 expand and click on the version to download to box. It will store on usb and it has blue button to flash box . It will do a backup of current image on box.

If it gives a choice to choose another slot choose a vacant one.

Forgot to say this is the newer way to flash boxes straight from their server and box needs a mounted hdd or usb stick to download the image 2

Am ok. But - because there is no version of vix on the box I don't have any of those options.

It doesn't have menu/ setup/vix that my zgemma does.

It has a totally different system on it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,946 ✭✭✭greasepalm

Post what the pages look like from menu -setup.

See if you can find image manager and what it might say

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,819 ✭✭✭swoofer

no there are 2 boxes may look same but are not hence dual boot sign. That’s why I asked for plate. It’s Linux os but image is called define os. How small is box can u give dimensions.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 530 ✭✭✭cathy427

    Will do.

But as I say cause its not openvix there is no menu/ setup options but will take some pics to prove.

It does have option to update firmware but that seems to be updating what's on it not replacing it with a totally different system.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,946 ✭✭✭greasepalm

Its strange as box has no working menu to go through.

    Thanks,

    it's super small/neat.

    12.5cms long x 9.5cms wide x 2.5cms

The 2.5 height is ideal for hiding it behind tv

Added a YouTube video above might help?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 530 ✭✭✭cathy427

Ya was watching that earlier. As you can see thats the menu options it has.

As you can see from the video no option for vix/image manager etc.

As I mentioned above the firmware update seems to be just to update what's on it, not switch to a different one.

Stick up a post on WOS as they might know how to change to openvix ?

cathy you got the wrong box but it has loads of features and might still do the job with that define os image. Box is not highly rated and the one you need may be a lot bigger, its this one

    OCTAGON SX88 V2 4K UHD S2+IP 5G Wi-Fi 1xDVB-S2 Enigma 2 DUAL OS Linux Smart TV Sat Receiver

but I cant for the life of me find dimensions on amazon de. Notice the price!!

I dont have the SX88 , but do have the Octagon S8008 extreme , the new one with the nvme hard drive.

The installed os is "Define" , this OS will let you install any image you want in its image manager and can do it over the network.

On mine , I just went into image manager , selected latest version of openvix , it downloaded and installed it , then asked if I wanted to reboot to that image.

Likewise if you want to go back to Define OS , Then reboot the box via Setup> Reboot-restart , and the box will ask what OS you want to boot too. ( In my case , thats either Define , openvix , openatv, openpli.)

The box has " unlimited" image slots , in that it uses sections of the HDD to create as many image slots as you want. Its a Great box for learning E2 and for experimenting.

Andy its a different box, its TINY and I mean Tiny, 5 ins wide, its another version SX88 -SE. The one everyone keeps mixing it with is the dual boot version.

The SE has a DLNA feature and the op wants to stream from a zgemma H7S BUT I know nothing about networking and would need the actual box to try.

Can you help? with vix client mode is easy hence reason for wanting vix.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,455 ✭✭✭andy1249

If it has Define OS installed , then it should be easy to switch to vix , if not , or if its a less capable version of Define , then no I cannot help.

Define OS on its own is pretty much useless here , its aimed at German IPTV and cable.

Much the same as " Teamblue" Gigablue version of E2 that comes on the Gigablue boxes , its useless here , good for the German market , but useless here.

That explains it, the spec looks awesome but if no good with vix then snookered.

My S8008 is on "Define 07" , and some pics attached for reference.

Note that with Octagon and Define , you shouldnt remove the Define OS , if you do , there is a very long winded post on the openvix forums about how you get the multiboot emmc recovery firmware back onto the device.

    https://www.world-of-satellite.com/showthread.php?62747-How-to-USB-flash-New-Multi-boot-recovery-menu-and-Image-to-Octagon-SF8008-New-procedure-21-04-2020&p=496459#post496459

Instead you go into image selector in the Define OS , and choose your E2 image , it will only show E2 images that are compatible with the box , openvix should be there , if not then openatv , if neither of those are available then the box is useless in Ireland.

Edit: Obviously the box must be connected to the internet for the above to work.

Heres some pics so you know the kind of options to look for ,

I imagine you have to have a Usb or Hdd to allow box to do that.

What confuses me is both models from Wos and Amazon look identical on the outside , but your saying the guts inside might be different?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,946 ✭✭✭greasepalm

I use client mode on my Zero but only using Openvix.

I assume Open Atv might have it if going into Tuner setup and see if that lists Client Mode ?

If that was the case try setting it up with that and still have all the other features within the box and get more out of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,455 ✭✭✭andy1249

It depends on what has been done to the box.

The original OS should have an option to load another image via emmc recovery firmware , if it has been wiped and a standalone image of openvix or some other OS is on it , then that is not an option anymore.

With the S8008 , the unit takes an Nvme hard drive , this is an SSD that comes on a slot in board , a bit like a USB stick that slots directly into the motherboard.

Looking at the SX88 on WOS, it says " Dual Boot E2 Linux & Define OS " which is exactly the same as mine …… so you should be able to find a menu option in Define that lets you boot to openvix , just make sure that the box is connected to the internet , preferably by network cable.

Edit: The option should be named something like " Multiboot image selector " or something similar.
