Digiweb Fritzbox Mesh

    Hi

I signed up with Digiweb recently. Have a 1GB Siro connection.

Got a Fritzbox Wifi 6 to connect to the wall, and that gives me 800Mbps on tests on my phone when in the same room.

They gave me a second Fritzbox Wifi 5 to use as a mesh. I have it set up upstairs, and when I do another test up there I only get about 50Mbps. Should I not be getting faster speeds than that. The second box, is one floor above, standard flooring etc.

Is there settings I could have wrong etc?

    Thanks

I have digiweb too and I'm on a Fritzbox 7530 with a Fritz 1200 repeater.

This Fritzbox supports both 2.4 and 5GHz wireless networks so does the repeater. The 5GHz is what gives you the fast speeds. On the downside the 5GHz has a lower range and doesnt like obstacles much.

So you have a few factors here.

Configuration: One can give the 2.4 and 5GHZ networks different names so then you have manual control which on you're logged into with your device/phone. Or else you give them the same name and the mesh decides based on signal strength which network to offer to any given device requesting access. This is the mesh way as I understand it.

Repeater Connection: Secondly unless you're having a wired connection between the two Fritzboxes they may also chose either network depending on signal strength factors to talk to each other. So if your main Fritzbox which has the internet connection only talks to the repeater Fritzbox via 2.4GHz cos the repeater is tucked away upstairs somewhere or so then all the devices connected to the repeater box wont have full speed of course. If you cant have a real good connection between the two like line of sight then wired is always the champ. Of course that may not always be possible,

Lastly your phones/devices need to support both 2.4 and 5 too obviously.

In my house it looks like this. I dont have a full second Fritzbox I just have the AVM 1200 wireless repeater but I have basically line of sight between the main box and the repeater. Main box at the fibre point downstairs and repeater just up the stairs on the landing wall.

As you can see you need to see 2.4/5 → 800something between main and repeater. And you need to see the mesh symbol on each of the two as in the little blue dotted triangles.

    Thanks for the reply

    This is what I see:

So it looks like maybe it is only 2.4 between the main box (7530 AX) and the repeater? The two on the left hand side that say 5GHz are niot getting anything near 866, they are what I ran the tests on.

Ye the internet speeds on what is connected to the repeater box will always be maxxed at what you get between the main box and the repeater box regardless of what the numbers on the right are suggesting. The connection in your picture is actually at 5GHz (2.4 max is 150 MBits) but the connection is not ideal hence only 233 MBits and not 800something. The mesh connection is the bottleneck.

Maybe you can move the two closer to each other find a better spot for the repeater box? Or make it wired ideally?

The 233 Mbit/s connection, that's the connection between the main box and the other box. That's going to limit anything connecting to the second box anyway. There are some things you could do to improve your speed.

I did a little test, where I plugged the repeater box out and just used the main box. Was getting much better speeds on my laptops, even though the repeater box is right beside it.

Does that make sense. I had moved the repeater box out from underneath a screen stand to above it, so its not tucked away anymore, but it didn't make a lot of difference
