They are not free flight , the one I got last year for Amsterdam were 160€ for 2 people return Tax/Fee ( who was the full price charged by Ryanair for 2 people for same time/same date) .

When checking on the credit card it is nearly mission impossible to get flight matching wishing date . also the credit card calendar is wrong.

For example I am trying to get my free return Dublin/Seville in April. flight are on Wednesday/Friday/Sunday But on the CC calendar nearly all free day available are on day, when they do not fly to Seville….

They should up the amount to be spent to avail free flight and offer proper service.

It's just a basic calender to select from,it isn't a reflection of availability or when flights take place.
It's a dated process , should be better like booking flights with avios points showing live availablity
But with either you still pay taxes and fees

Yeah, I agree Christy. Just got approved for a “free” flight to London for €48. I can go cheaper than weekend with Ryanair. Think I might be getting rid of the credit card in the near future….

There's no value in using the flights for that type of booking, needs to be longer routes.

Which is useless if you aren't going somewhere longer!

Yeah, absolute rookie mistake. Thought I’d put in Dublin - Athens. Oh well 😬

Does anyone know what sort of validation they do for the fast passes? Ideally I just want to use the fast track security but not priority boarding on a non EI flight

But are they actually linked? Boarding card is scanned at all security, if it's just a generic fast track voucher, it's not linked to a boarding card

Is there a fee for topping up revolut with this card?

    Balance Transfer:

    • Introductory Rate: 0% interest for the first 7 months on balance transfers.
    • Post-Introductory Rate: After 7 months, the fixed interest rate reverts to the standard variable purchase rate applicable to the card.
    • Standard Variable Purchase Rate: 14.00% annual rate.

You don't earn any points on transfers

Got the email today to say 5k spent on the credit card, free flights, woo-hoo!

Go to check out Tenerife or Lanzarote in October while the child is off school… System says no

Call to their customer care confirms that the free flights are only while the child is in school making these effectively useless to us

Tempted to get rid now after this experience

I agree the limitations are overly restrictive- but they do make that clear before you sign up. The T&Cs do say:

ii. Availability is restricted during holidays and other peak travel periods, including but not limited to bank holidays, school holidays and sporting events. For example, Free Fares will be restricted (and may not be available) on certain flights during the dates and travel periods…

    • 24June - 31 August (Fridays/Saturdays/Sundays)
    • 20 December - 06 January
    • February/October midterm breaks
      (Saturday/Sunday)
    • Easter (Good Friday - Easter Monday)
    • Six Nations Rugby matches (flights to the destination of the matches may not be available on the day of the match and 2
      days either side of it)
    • Other Irish bank holiday weekends (Friday/Saturday/Monday)

Restricted doesn't usually mean completely unavailable though. I thought I'd be restricted to certain takeoff times or certain airports but restricted only to times when I can't go on holiday seems a tad extreme

They only make a number of seats available for free flights on a flight

So in theory, the flights you wanted could of been restricted to two seats etc and were already taken by another user.

    The restrictions don't suit everyone

There is more availablity for flights using aer points , they were to switch to a annual points gain instead of the free flights , but there was backlash to the idea so they stuck to the restricted free flights. (There were other changes too)

It would be a lot better if they just used the same availability buckets as reward flights.

Is there anyway to see the availability for the credit card free flights?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,072 ✭✭✭arrianalexander

    No there isn't , it's such a backward system

Make it a available to see and book live , would free up resources for them too rather than having someone approve it etc

What's the timeline for avios being rewarded from credit card does anybody know? Avios seem to be rewarded between the 7th and 10th of a given month but my credit card statements which run from the 18th of 2 months prior to the 17th of the previous month aren't matching up

eg statement issued 18th December '24 there was €2,693 spent but 8th of January 744 avios rewarded (expected 673)

Only thing I can think of is the avios and credit card statement timings are different

Bingo, 2 Paris flights in the summer approved today meaning we pay €108 for two seats.

    Prices are €455 otherwise.

Do the free flights come with a free bag similar to avios reward flights?

Ugh, not sure I'll even bother trying to use them

Lads, am I right in thinking I should be earning Avios on every purchase I make with the card (that is linked to my Avios account?

The Aer Club app isn't helpful as it doesn't give the retailer name beside each time points are added to your account.

I booked a long haul flight with Lufthansa in January and no points have arrived?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,072 ✭✭✭arrianalexander

It's one for every €4 spent

So that purchase would of come through 7th Feb approx as nonaerlingus purchases on your aerclub account bundled together with any other purchases you made on your card

If you purchase from the retailers listed on their site / app you get additional points but it varies depending on retailer etc

But they show up on your aerclub as

    retailer xxx points

    Unless I'm misinterpreting your post

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 137 ✭✭SB Morer

All the Avios from your credit card purchases will come through in one transaction for non Aer Lingus purchases and one for Aer Lingus purchases each month. It won’t list every single time you use your card on the Aer Club app. The transactions are clearly labelled as “Aer Credit Card (Non) Aer Lingus Purchases”.

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators Posts: 7,285 Mod ✭✭✭✭Sheep Shagger

Thanks, that makes a bit more sense that all non AL purchases are credited as one. Can see a chunk going onto my account on 7 Feb.

Last question, how soon do avios expire, I assume they last more than 12 months?

You should have had a block in early March, April and May too if using the card.

    They last forever.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,467 ✭✭✭pureza

They do expire if you have no activity in your aerclub account for more than 3 years as far as I’m aware

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,072 ✭✭✭arrianalexander

Thanks , I had guessed my statement was too sweeping after posting it

Yes, even if you stop using you Credit Card, take a flight, make a purchase on e-store or just transfer the points to BA and back again. Like cash though over time the 'value' of the points will reduce as redemption Avios will increase.
