So after an extremely successful first round, we're back on the road to Portumna Golf Course on March 15th.

    image.png

It's a course I've never played, but have heard very good things about. Ranked 47 in Ireland in the latest rankings, it looks like a fantastic setting for a parkland, and is one I'm really looking forward to. Also has a great website with flyovers for each hole, so check that out for some tips.

    • Time sheet will open on Monday 3rd March at 7pm
    • First tee time is 12pm
    • Price is €40
    • 36 spots available

Make sure you've topped up the balance on Clubnet in advance, as it may fill up pretty quickly as per usual.

    And to wet your whistles…

I remember we played here years ago, could have been 2013/14. I don’t remember very much about the course to be honest except I think the 17th hole which is its signature and ranks as one of the best holes in the country in nearly every poll .

Looking forward to the return trip, good choice Captain

Yup, remember it being a long drive out there, but worth the trip.

Was a course I'd never heard of and remember being really impressed as I'd gone with zero knowledge or expectations

Lovely course, I've played a few times with the work society. Great choice Captain 👍👍👍

Easy NTP guys, the 18th, a wonderful par 3 to finish on a lightening fast green with the clubhouse watching

I was planning a trip to Barcelona this weekend but I have decided to cancel it. Portumna is a bit of a drive but I look forward to another boards outing.

The course looks great on the video…will there be a venison burger on the menu?

Looking forward to this one, hopefully the weather plays ball for us!

I'll be heading from Cork through Limerick if anyone on the way wants a lift up and down.

For anyone looking for a read of boards last visit there.

Shows how bad my memory is, looks like Portumna was my first ever outing with Boards!

Also, from that thread, some old pics from Mr Markham. Not sure what types of changes have been made

What do people reckon is the best road from Dublin direction, N7 or N4?

M4/M6 and get off at Junction 15. That’s how I go there.

I was gonna ask this exact question!

I am leaning toward the M4, as the M7 route means going through some towns like Roscrea etc.

Stay on the motorway lads. Get off at Ballinasloe west exit 15. Cross country from there but it’s the most direct route.

Really looking forward to this. It's been on my hit list for while. I've heard only great things about it.

Really looking forward to this one. A little scared that I may not be fast enough for @FixdePitchmark though😀. Now where did I leave that hoodie?
Too soon? I’ll get my coat.

After missing R1 due to an unfortunately timed holiday, I'm really looking forward to getting my Boards Season going. See you all in a couple of weeks

If I had played golf as a child this is where I would have played as I grew up just a few miles from this course (its in the back of beyond ). I've only played it in the summer and its a lovely course , hopefully it didn't suffer too much damage from the recent storm as I heard they lost at least a few trees.

Sad to miss this one, but I'm in Cornwall for a friends bday that weekend.
I want the below officially noted however:

I'm sorry to be missing this one too. It's perhaps the best known hidden gem in the country - it's in every best parkland / best value / hidden gems course made on Ireland.

    Enjoy yourselves.

Does anyone know what sort of condition the course is in at the moment? The long range forecast for next week shows little to no rain for the most of the country so will help dry it out hopefully.

Also are we playing off the yellows or whites? Seems to be a big difference in the course rating between the two (8 vs 12 course handicap for me).

    Yeah..

We will get this framed and put it up as the MOST GOLF perpetual trophy 🏆...

It would fulfill my live time ambition to be a single figure golfer..😰🏌‍♂️🏌‍♂️

I thought the fact that only these three specific people "liked" my post about not making it to Portumna was interesting 😁

Me liking that post was just instinct kind of like how Padraig Harrington didn't celebrate when Tiger announced he was out for the rest of 2008, right before he won the next two majors. Now to follow this up with most golf in Portumna😀
