Except the US hasn't paid hundreds of billions, if you accept that lie, Lord knows what other lies you base your uninformed opinion on.

The "special operation" in russia terms has completely defanged russia and left them as a pauper on the world stage where they won't be able to threaten anyone anymore and that's been with very limited support from the US and Europe supporting a much smaller army/country.

The $ cost to the US is tiny compared to:
    a) what they spend on military anyway

    b) the cost of other wars they have engaged in where they had little to no success at the end

russia is slowly colllapsing an immolating itself, if Ukraine got enhanced support, it's likely that russian lines could be pushed back and there could be further expansion into Kursk leaving putin in a very big pickle of his own making.

putin getting trump to roll over and do his bidding and hoping Ukraine falter is his last roll of the dice and gives him a chance to build up militarily again and threaten others in the future.

Starmer presides over a country that saw fit to give someone a conviction for a 'hate crime' for making a video of his pug doing a Nazi salute. The legal protection covering free speech in the US is far stronger than in any country in Europe, and Europe is rapidly getting worse in this regard. Vance was perfectly right to call it out, and Starmer had no answer to him.

Is it just Charles that Zelensky is meeting at this unexpected meet? I suspect other senior royals will be present for a photoshoot of forced soft diplomacy, which will re-entrench Zelensky as a world statesman

It seems a lot like thanks to Trump's poisonous personality quite a good strategy has been cocked up.

On the face of it the rare earths deal looked like taking advantage of Ukraine but as a strategy for stopping Putin it had a lot to like.

Take Trump out of the equation, and a US/Ukraine natural resources partnership would allow a better President than Trump to simply say to Putin, "we're not going to send US forces to fight a war on Ukraine's behalf, but we will always defend US interests wherever in the world they may be. Think carefully before you encroach on our interests."

I daresay that would give Putin considerable pause for thought.

What I find particularly funny about the online discourse is how silent the pro Trump/Putin people are any time Trump or Putin fuk up.

You can see the deafening silence here for at least 24 hours before suddenly the uniform response is issued and they come flooding back in.

Ah jog on. From the story you linked:

Fining Meechan £800, the sheriff told him: "The centrepiece of your video consists of you repeating the phrase 'Gas the Jews' over and over again as a command to a dog which then reacts.

Wouldn't have worked....it was an ambush from start to finish

They wanted it to be a bust up from the get go and set it up so that was what was most likely to happen.....

They were performing for their supporters.…I only hope those supporters are simply disgruntled and misled US citizens that vote for them don't include nefarious actors....I hope trump and his cadre aren't bought and paid for by Putin et al or even worse they have something on him/them he feels he can't have come out...the only other option is that along with being a repulsive narcissistic, petulant toddler made out of blubber in a shell made entirely of fake tan and deep insecurity he's also a moron....I hope that last bit is as unlikely as I think it is.

If its just placating the base, albeit in a most public, unedifying and frankly embarrassing for the country as a whole kind of way (I wouldn't have been overly surprised if they were critical of zekensky for using words that were too big yesterday) ....then perhaps the support will happen to some degree when the news cycle moves on to the next clown show involving the orange clown.

The state visit to the UK will not be cancelled, but no date has been set and already they have said, 'well you know we have three state visits organised already this year, so its not likely to be this year'. The 'letting a state visit drift on' has been done before.

I will be shocked if @Nermal acknowledges the "gas the jews" part of this.

'Flood the zone' with 'muzzle velocity'.. this was the plan and the only truly surprising thing is that there are still so many people asking themselves how this came out of nowhere

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,836 ✭✭✭Nermal

Of course I acknowledge it. I'm making that point that in the US, this man would not have found himself with a criminal conviction for what was clearly a joke in poor taste, but in the UK he did. Vance's criticism was absolutely warranted.

Thats my reading of it too.

At first I was horrified at the clips I saw but after watching the full 50 minutes a different picture is being painted.

The first 40 minutes were cordial and civil but it started to kick off after 40 minutes.

Trump and pretty much any rational person know that Ukraine cant win the war, its been going on for 3 years now and Ukraine is not winning.

Without US support Ukraine can probably fight on for another year but the outcome will still be the same.

I think Trump has just about had enough of Zelensky, who isnt being reasonable.

The logical play is a peace deal which is fair to both sides, renew diplomatic relations with Russia, and get Nato to reduce their aggressive expansion.

Its unfortunate that Ukraine might get the bad end of the deal but they have the much weaker hand and you have to cut your losses sometimes.

Theres still a long way to go in the negotiations, Trump could and should make more demands of Russia and Im sure he will.

Similar to the Vance speech in Munich, i took the time to watch the whole 20 minutes before I made an opinion on it.

I don't particularly like Trump, but equally I don't have rabid hatred for the man. At some point last summer, while Biden was still in the race, RTE/Todayfm/Newstalk played a short clip of something controversial that Trump said at a rally. Thing is, I had heard a longer version on X previously and the clip the Irish media played was edited and completely missed the context. From that point I realised you could not take anything our media says about Trump at face value.

it is now been reported that the ‘reporter’ that asked the question about Zelenskyy clothing is actually Majorie Taylor Greenes partner.

Trump repeatedly spoke about ‘raw earth’ - presumably meaning rare earth.

Vance has been missing in action since the election and now suddenly trying the hard man role

Add in the TAS new agency guys in the Oval Office, it adds weight to the ‘ambush’ theory

You're the one making up stories with zero links.

Link your facts. I get you don't enjoy getting called out but someone had to do it.

do we realise that a peacemaker/facilitator trying to solve a problem between two parties does not take sides. And when it is ALL OVER the peacemaker moves on to its next piece of work. But not in this case. Trump , all along was watching out for himself throughout his involvement re any commercial opportunities

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,841 ✭✭✭✭Loafing Oaf

Trump could and should make more demands of Russia and Im sure he will.

How? What leverage does he have as things stand? Putin is currently showing no interest in any form of compromise. Looks to me like Putin will only show any interest in cutting a deal if his forces are sent into reverse on the battlefield…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,124 ✭✭✭Jinglejangle69

Trump telling Zelensky he made him a tough guy.

Imagine Trump hanging around if his country was being invaded.

Like Putin ran away in his private jet when Wagner was on his way to Moscow.

    Two utter cowards.

Zelensky is the brave one with balls.

Vance is part of an administration that banned the AP from the White House press pool because they still refer to it as the Gulf of Mexico

He can get fucked lecturing anyone on free speech

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,232 ✭✭✭SonOfGoat

Not much to say. The truth is Trump is an absolute gentleman and very humble. The general public is 97% stupid. The rich get richer and poor get poorer for a reason. Go on the Trump

Trump could hold out for a better deal.

The Russian economy is 1/14th the size of the US economy, and its running its economy on a war footing that isnt sustainable and will lead to a credit crunch and inflation.

Its got a manpower crisis, and whilst Russia is winning its winning at a glacial rate.

So there is room for leverage.

The Wests approach to Ukraine isnt working so diplomatic negotiations are the logical play.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,040 ✭✭✭✭briany

And the reason the rich get richer is that when recessions hit, they have cash reserves to buy the cheap property that the poor lose possession off due to being one payment away from destitution in many cases. So, your take, there, is extremely "97", if you will.

I laugh at people posting "the full video" as if that makes things any better. It's not the gotcha you think it is. Vance ran his mouth as usual like the moron he is and once again was put back on his box but like most bullies they don't like being wrong and did the political equivalent of tugging on their testicles and crying.

They are small little men with an inflated opinion of their intelligence.

I think if Michael Martin wishes to represent the Irish people on the 12th March he should go and call out trump publicly on his shameful treatment of Zelensky. The Irish people don't want our Taoiseach to be all friendly and nice, we want our leader to publicly stand up to this bully!! I doubt he will but he has a chance to go down in history if he does!! This has now moved well beyond politics and we need to stand up for Right and call out Wrong!! Zelensky was cheered tonight in London!! Why? Because everyone can see he was the subject of a bully

    Utter nonsense.

“The war cannot be won” is the cry of Putin apologists. Of course it can be won. Winning is outlasting Russia, who’ve put all of their energy into a war that was supposed to last less than a week.

Trump could cripple Russia by simply supporting Ukraine with arms. It would not cost one American life, it’s should be considered a dream scenario for any US president - but Trump has bent over backwards for Putin for some reason, and has not asked him for a single concession for his invasion of Ukraine.

Zelensky is being eminently reasonable, he’s working tirelessly for support in defence of his homeland, and for democracy and self determination. Thankfully this along with Trumps craven abandonment of Ukraine looks to have focused Europe and I expect we will make up for any shortfall in US support once arms production ramps up.

Trump and Vance are traitors to democracy and history will not look on them kindly.

Can't see any leader calling out Trump now sitting next to him after seeing the spectacle yesterday. They'll be terrified, understandably so.
