Aww, can you just imagine what would happen in Donnie’s tiny little noggin if Charles goes ahead and gives Zelensky a royal honour? (Not sure the rules on Knighthood, think you have to be British. Maybe something like an OBE?)

Come on Charlie, do it! Lizzy would be proud.

I wonder….despite all the likely Kremlin shenanigans…could it all actually be that simple? That Vance was so butt-hurt by being put in his box by actual world leaders that he took a shot with an exhausted Zelensky, who’s English is limited, as a possible easy mark to make himself look bigger?

Frankly, if that was the case it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest. Remember folks, we talk a lot about reale politique here, but the end of the day Donnie & Co can also just be vain nitwits who just want to look and sound bigger than they really are.

To say that Zelensky made a rod for his own back is blaming the victim for provoking the aggressor, and that's not how we do things in civil society. Neither the US President nor their Vice President should be making baseless unfounded remarks which require pushback, and if they do make these remarks, they should accept polite correction gracefully. It just shows how far the standard falls with Trump that it's in any way normal to think Zelensky did something wrong.

    #MEGA MAKE EUROPE GREAT AGAIN

Certainly Trump not wanting this “deal” either is a very real possibility- whilst they’re organised in terms of creating “ chaos”- I don’t think they’ve actually thought through what they’re proposing and in reality it probably won’t work long term in terms of extracting the precious minerals from the soil - there’s no quick money coming in from this deal that’s for sure and possibly will take decades

Never thought I'd be so impressed with the Brits and The King but credit where credit is due, fair play.

Europe needs to step up to the plate and assure Ukraine of all of the support they need. It is paramount that Trump and Putin lose out here.

Part of me thinks Trump didn't like being corrected by Macron or Starmer so had Vance sit in to help. I can see Vance sitting in on more meetings with heads of state.

Why do you say they haven't thought the deal through? What points to that?

    Opinion or fact?

Zelenskyy should have told Vance to shut up that two Presidents were having a conversation. Told him to take his moronic points up with the Ukrainian vice president. Put him back in his box and massaged Trump's ego at the same time

Would be very surprised if it was a solo run by Vance. Looks to me like the whole thing was planned in advance by the two guys and their handlers. Vance likely had a range of talking points denigrating Zelensky to shoehorn into the conversation if it looked like the whole thing was petering out amicably…

That's not going to work out to well considering Vance is completely ignorant to the geo political climate outside of his own border. The comment yesterday about seeing "videos" was absolutely laughable. He's knowledge is no better than any other nut job you would meet in a pub who thinks he knows everything because he follows some right wing grifter on twitter.

Why do American universities keep getting held in such high regard considering they consistently churn out people like him? I'm not just picking on the right here. Look at some of the scary videos of simple questions being asked on various campuses across America to see how absolutely ignorant so many third level students are in America.

We're all so distracted by this mess that we forget what is going on here.

When is the last time that the 'cobalt' thing has been discussed on our media?

When so much rubbish accumulates outside, it's hard to get a handle on our own position

    yes VZ was disrespectful in

    (1) turning up unsuited!

    (2) meeting Trump while denying that he is a dictator!

    (3) that elections away overdue so VZ cannot really represent UKr - gone past his sellby date!

    (4) that his popularity is at ONLY 4% and meeting the POTUS with a popularity of circa 75%+!

Vance was at the meeting with Starmer aswell and opened his trap about free Speech in the UK

Starmer was well able for him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,114 ✭✭✭✭Tony EH

I'm no fan of Starmer, but the difference in statecraft was exemplary. Starmer put on a good show yesterday showing the dumb 5 year olds in the Oval Office and their stupid, sycophantic, MAGA fans what a diplomatic meeting between world leaders is supposed to look like.

    (8) he has his own private plane and trades it in for a new one every second year - the place is sooooooo corrupt

They're are just bullies who didn't like someone even questioning them in their own backyard.

Add in their love-in for Russia, and it was all definitely planned.

There was only real man there yesterday. Zelensky is leading a country at war against the 'might' of Russia. The other two wouldn't last two mins in Zelenskys job. Trump is obese and a pensioner. Vance is a coward and bully, ultra religious too which are a creepy cult. I suspect we'll hear a few stories about him down the line .

It's understandable that a lot of people have no interest in far away places and will question the money spent but electing Trump has potential for serious consequences for all of us and having America cosying up to Putin will cause problems. His behaviour not just yesterday is not the behaviour of a rational person and his devotees are the same .What happens in Ukraine does effect us when you see the number of them here and all that entails .

Non British people can receive the OBE, CBE and MBE.

It would be hilarious if Charlie gave Zelensky one before he went back over to the US. Topped off with even more hilarity if/when Trump meets the king in lesser surroundings when fatboy hauled his ass over to the UK.

His fragile ego would smash into a thousand pieces.

Answer the question I asked you previously first. I’m not interested in being continually challenged on my posts without something coming in return - thanks

There's long enough time yet for a diplomatic illness to arise in the UK and delay Trumps invitation from being fulfilled. The cup might slip from his lips yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,222 ✭✭✭greenfield21

Why is everyone so obsessed with pushing an unwinnable war and by thinking the only way to support Ukraine is continuing this. The US paid hundreds of billions of dollars to delay realising the war was never winnable. Finally the warmongers have been pushed out. But now Ukraine is ruins and so many dead, and so many of their population lost. A cease fire now is a face saving exercise to acknowledge defeat.

I'm sure Trump is loving Starmer and Europe stepping up to fund this going forward even though he knows they are nothing without the US.

One of the few people in the thread who watched the whole thing rather than snippets picked out by the media.

    Here's another:

That's what would be really good. Give Zelenski some kind of nice Royal Honour like for example an OBE. And then in the interest of diplomacy still invite Donnie over to meet the King….but that's it. No OBE, no Knighthood ('cause Donnie likely won't grasp the rules on that) and he'll just come across as even more petty and childish, despite Charlie still giving him a party up in one of his castles.

"Zen" doesn't need to do a deal with Europe because we are not a bunch of insecure snowflakes who need to be told how big and hard we are every day and need to be paid off and bowed to with praise every 5 minutes.

I believe vance was following Harold Zoid's direction for arm flailing technique in the oval office:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,352 ✭✭✭eightieschewbaccy

You're the guy who's claiming Ukraine somehow provoked an invasion, ya? Trump produced any proof like that so far?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,825 ✭✭✭Wolf359f

Except the US hasn't paid hundreds of billions, if you accept that lie, Lord knows what other lies you base your uninformed opinion on.

The "special operation" in russia terms has completely defanged russia and left them as a pauper on the world stage where they won't be able to threaten anyone anymore and that's been with very limited support from the US and Europe supporting a much smaller army/country.

The $ cost to the US is tiny compared to:
    a) what they spend on military anyway

    b) the cost of other wars they have engaged in where they had little to no success at the end

russia is slowly colllapsing an immolating itself, if Ukraine got enhanced support, it's likely that russian lines could be pushed back and there could be further expansion into Kursk leaving putin in a very big pickle of his own making.

putin getting trump to roll over and do his bidding and hoping Ukraine falter is his last roll of the dice and gives him a chance to build up militarily again and threaten others in the future.
