I have a suspicion that a lot of the useful support the US has provided is not of the physical kind (aside of the artillery ammunition), and is more related to the extremely significant collection and analysis assets which the US has and are not easily matched by European forces.

Yes. Thoughts, prayers and tweets won't cut it.

There was nothing Zelensky could do. Anything he did, Trump and Vance would have just trolled even more. This was a setup.

I agree with you that Zelenskey should have played his cards better today - but his goose was cooked the minute he visited the US during the election campaign and backed Kamel Harris - that was a grave mistake, he should have stayed out of it. And it took only a few minutes of heated argument at today's press conference for the truth to come out. Trump does not forget and most certainly does not forgive his adversaries and Zelenskey learned that lesson today - when Trump is involved there's a high price to pay for backing the wrong horse.

Since the war started Zelenskey has travelled the world meeting world leaders and is so used to being feted, kissed, hugged, praised and admired and generally speaking having his pretty posterior licked so today must have been a shock to his system. He learned the hard way that there's a new world order in the White House that Biden is no more, his US $ bank account is closed and what he thought was a gift has turned into a loan and the wolves are at his door looking for their billions back in one form or other.

Perhaps in retrospect Zelenskey should have stepped aside once Trump was declared to be the next president. A new leader would have less baggage ………and may even have a suit in his wardrobe !

Trump has the GOP on it’s knees and kissing his ass, today was just about having someone else do it. He’s like that loud mouth at the local pub, all give it but can’t take it.

I'm happy as an Irish European to pay a 10 % extra "Russian War tax" to pay to support Ukraine.

I'm also happy if the Government suspends Irish Neutrality and ask for army volunteers to create an Irish Army grouping to go to Ukraine, maybe or maybe not in the front line.

Maybe this is what the European project needs, but step up.

And Starmer/King Charles should immediately withdraw Trump's royal invite - probably cares more about that than Ukraine.

JD Vance reminds me of this. Egging on Trump.

The Orcs have so little debt that mortgage interest rates will be 25% this year.

The way Vance kept glancing over at the media when he was talking showed how staged it was.

Average Russian being 10x poorer than average Irish person despite Russia having all them resources is a positive?

next you be telling us that a fifth of population not having toilets is the height of progress and culture

Mining is a funny old game. Proven resources and claimed resources are very different. Why would a country sitting on such claimed trillions not just extract it for themselves if it was so sure it was worth the billions to invest in doing so ?

    Shocked by what just happened.

In my lifetime I never though we'd go from President Reagan and his "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall" speech, to Trump and JD Vance trying to humiliate the leader of a country under an invasion from Russia. And then try to shake him down with a terrible deal for his countries resources.

Fair play to him for telling them to f*ck off. I'm getting really pissed off with this constant sane-washing of Trumps awful actions.

Europe need to seriously step up now.

That really hasnt got anything to do with the question whether debt is good or bad. It's just childish mimimi Russia bad mimi. You think they'd have more toilets if they were having debt?

Next you're going to tell me having 200 billion in debt is a good thing too.

Americans have a problem with him not wearing a suit. jesus they are brain dead.

I will never step foot in that kip.

I dont think martin will be licking Trumps ass to be honest, id say he will let him have it to be fair to him.

How would you suggest he could have handled it better? What specifically would you have done differently?

In my view whatever went wrong had already happened behind closed doors. What we watched just looked like a punitive harrying session. An execrable scripted show. Going in on how he dresses from the off. I’m not sure how anyone can advise on how he may have handled things better with Trump because we can only guess at what happened. Any number of things might have triggered Trump. And the advice seems framed as if Trump is a misbehaving child & every interaction has to involve better parenting skills from every statesman & foreign representative he interacts with. How did we get here?

I have been thinking what if the US cuts the intel feed? One response, though I acknowledge it would take courage, would be for countries that greatly assist the US with intelligence gathering, cease doing so - things like GCHQ and Pine Gap.

That’s 200bn that was lend to Ireland (often by the people of Ireland in their pensions) at rates below inflation

Meanwhile Russians for some reason have to invade their neighbours to loot 🚽 for their 💩

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,277 ✭✭✭brickster69

200 billion is a good thing if you have a population of 140 million not so good if you have a population of 5 million.

That debt belongs to someone, and that someone are mostly Irish people and their investments, deposits, pensions etc

You have a basic lack of understanding of what wealth is and how it interacts with debt

Anyways, If Russia is so great then why are you still here?

Why not move and experience 10x drop in standard of living, outdoor plumbing, and an all expenses paid trip to show loyalty for the stronk leader by bleeding for a few square meters of mud

Total ambush, wouldn't let Zelensky answer without shouting over him.

Trump and Vance just wanted their pound of flesh to parade to the MAGA cult.

    Crazy times.

The world is in a dark place right now.

You should watch that music video I posted a page or so back; i'd hope your characrerisation of Ukraine wouldn't survive till the end.

Europeans, especially the Germans, have no stomach for war - they learned their lesson the hard way. So there won't be an EU or European army in our lifetime. NATO is the only option and without the good old US of A I wouldn't like my freedom or security to be depending on it. Trump is currently blowing hot and cold on the whole thing, perhaps he's being tickled gently by Putin behind the scenes - who knows.

As for our excuse of an army they're a joke. Anyone with an iota of a brain has bailed out a long time ago - 75% of what's left would be otherwise unemployable. They make Dads Army look like the marines, perhaps a few may find a place in an EU army as boot polishers or tea boys waaaaaaaaaay back from the front line😁

Well. What an absolutely disgusting display by Trump and Vance. Showing the whole world what troglodytes they are.

Europe wake the fcuk up. America is done. Time to stand alone.

Only one winner here today. China.

All eyes on Kursk. Slava Ukraini.

Imagine how those Finn's are thinking now. Having decades of cordial relations with their neighbours, loads of trade going on and then all of a sudden decide to go hysterical and join NATO without asking the people what they think and then the only protector does one. Now they wake up with the worlds largest nuclear arsenal aimed at them for being part of a toothless alliance.

    Mod - warned for trolling
