I’m just picturing the new head coach guy watching this from NZ.

Some of these lads can’t pass, catch or defend.

    Then there is the forwards.

If it wasn’t for the former Chief Nankivell and Hodnett this could be 40 or 50 point loss.

That's yellow at least. Still a chance for Munster if they score quickly.

Keep hearing about prendergast being this amazing attach coach but I don't think that translates to many of our games. Now I take onboard the lack of forwards etc to set the platform but we seem to do the same old things time and time again and the opposition are ready for it

One of the worst performances by a Munster team that I can ever remember.....

    Absolutely disgraceful.

Munster's defence has been the issue really. Lots of questions for Leamy.

2 points out of that is a miracle.

We don't deserve those two points but I'll take em

How we got points out of that

Inexcusable stuff really, plenty of time to prepare & we are not exactly raided by the international team.

Same yoyo response v Glasgow now prob

The inconsistency is killing us be defense or attack

    Sickened

Not to excuse tonight, which was a shambles. But it’s probably not completely unexpected given we’re missing about half the squad and we don’t have a Head Coach. There are a lot of poor to average players on the current senior squad that we’re out there tonight. I know front row is always spoken about, but its really stark just how poor some of the players Munster have under contract in that area.

We've had the same injuries & lack of head coach in previous games & didn't turn in a performance like that.

I would think recruitment is nearly done.

Head coach will bring stability & responsibility hopefully.

If Leamy was not ex Munster we'd be hammering him alot harder, he has showed he can do it but the inconsistency of performances regardless of results is a bigger concern imo

I agree that we probably haven't been quite as bad as tonight, but the losses to Zebre, Stormers and Sharks weren't far off. My point is more that with the coaching upheaval and injuries, it's not surprising to me that the team has been so inconsistent this season. And I expect that inconsistency to continue though to May unfortunately.

The scrum today was awful.. but we've 36 and 37 year old tight heads, no fit tighthead lock, no scrum coach, a temporary forwards coach.. that's exactly the scrum you get on the field.

Where was Ben Healy yesterday, is he injured or just can't make their 23?

Scrum has been poor for 2 years now..I know it was a different era but my God how good and resilient were the likes of John Hayes, Claw, Marcus Horan…hardly ever remember them missing games, yet alone seasons. Oli Jager cant catch a break with injuries, Lockman, killer, Salanoa all been out long term, Killers played what 2 games this year, 73 mins in total…our scrum was only ok lately thanks to Bluleur. Really missing a bit of size in 2nd row aswell, second row of Kleyn and edogbo really locks that scrum a lot more. Ahern and O'Connell dont have the heft, great athletes but playing the 2 of them hurts you due to their size. Back 3, nobody took control, we gifted edinburgh 2 tries..rebuild needed, but seem to be saying that every year, but we need a full front row, scrum half (Casey/Patterson/Coughlan) are all too similar in size, maybe a new full back, Haley is picking up a good few injuries..lets see how the season ends, new coach will have a few ideas what he wants to do I'm sure.

Watching us on Friday I can somewhat forgive the Irish coaches for filling the national team with Leinster players

Public house and social media predictions are that we will finish 9th or 10th in the URC and be challenge cup next year

Could be a good opportunity for the team to rebuild

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 497 ✭✭sleepyman

Are the front row forwards signed up for next year and beyond good enough scrummaging wise?

It just seems we've been having front row issues fir a few years just as mentioned above.

Really need some of the Academy guys coming through better than just URC level or we'll be making no impact in Europe for the foreseeable future.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,852 ✭✭✭snotboogie

What does that even mean? If we were being smashed out of the gate in Europe maybe this would make sense but we were competitive in all four fixtures this year and are in the knock outs. A year in the Challenge Cup would really hurt finances and not sure how it would help rebuilding?

Munster don't have the depth to handle the amount of injures that are occurring; half backs, second row and back three were particularly poor but we were down to 3rd or 4th choice in multiple positions. Front row is what it is but should be able to hold up with a strong back 5 in the scrum, when the second and back rows are young, light and inexperienced across the board we crumble.

Will Skelton got a red card over the weekend.

La Rochelle have 2 fixtures in march.

    could he miss the game?

It was a pretty soft red card, but his track record will go against him all the same. I'd say its plausible he misses it for sure.

When he was banned in 2022 the disciplinary committee cited his previous record when increasing his ban so he could well miss the Munster game. I think he's had three red cards now. That said, I don't think it was worthy of a red card other than the Stade player's over the top reaction.
