Probably can defeat Russia , yes, but the way this is going, it's not going to be long before Trump is openly supplying weapons to Putin. So, the question comes whether Europe could back Ukraine to beat a Russia with US weapons, logistics and intelligence?

And I wonder how Zelensky feels about Martin, who he had to meet yday due to refuelling, heading to meet Trump for a glad-handing session on March 12, a meeting full of laughter and plámás and BS, rubbing up Trump to try to save the economy.

I felt sorry for him yesterday and I feel worse for him today

All will be wearing the green jersey I expect and Martin will be let off saying it's Irelands position that a durable peace must be achieved.

Theres tapes of him trying to extort Zelensky for dirt on Biden. I wouldnt be surprised if the Ukrainians had tapes on or information about trumps relationship to Russia. Bringing anything like that to light would bring him down. There's no reason to hold it back now.

The very small light in this dark tunnel is to remember - don’t take this personally - aside from Russia, likely North Korea and most definitely China, regardless of what Trump pretends he’ll do to China- he’s treating everyone else the same way- with contempt and to use a trump word- disrespect - well bring it on Trumpy baby - I can’t wait for your so called humiliation of Ireland - go on, give us a laugh at your pathetic efforts you fat orange growth hormone infused pig

In theory it certainly has changed things but I saw a graphic yesterday of military spending and the EU combined is a drop on the ocean of US spending. I can imagine the EU would need a couple orders of magnitude of spending to even be a coherent force and that would take time. A long time. As a state, the EU flaps around about lots of things and doesn't come to consensus easily at all.

A disgrace of a man, a bully and criminal and it is only the beginning. This is what happens when criminals are in charge.

Trump and Vance are on Putins payroll.

It wouldn't bring him down at all. That'd be a Monday story for him. How would it bring him down when we already have him on live television, propagating a massive lie that inspired some of his supporters to storm the US Capitol on his behalf? Or what about the tape of him on the phone to the Georgia Secretary of State looking for more non-existent votes (and calling him an enemy of the people, later on, when he got refused on this)? Or being on tape admitting that he wasn't supposed to have those classified documents, but he did anyway? Or on tape talking about grabbing women by the pussy? Or being judged to have sexually assaulted E Jean Carroll?

If none of that brought him down, a tape of him attempting to extort Zelensky will just be more conformation of what we all know, but that his party is too spineless to do anything about. So nothing would come of it.

Musk was at a cabinet or gov meeting this week wearing a tee shirt under jacket, wearing baseball hat and no tie...just sayin.

    MAGA..mehole!

    I don’t think it’s a pee tape.

I reckon he either killed a prostitute or (more likely) was caught on tape with a very underage girl, and the Russians covered it up.

It’s the only thing I can think of that someone as manifestly narcissistic as Trump would be scared of people knowing.

Nope- no need to stoop to trumps level - Ireland can hold its head high- this is Americas shame, not the worlds - America can keep Trump- we’ll walk away with our dignity intact

An external threat to all can quickly create a consensus.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,919 ✭✭✭✭Goldengirl

Yes . But it all seems like appeasement of a bully . I wish they would all come out one by one and say how they abhor what was said and how he was treated by both Trump and Vance and that it is an insult to a person who has been fighting a fight that is in all of our interests against a violent aggressor and dictator in Putin. Maybe they have already since we have been posting here ?

I think we have hit a watershed moment (or have been hitting it for the last few weeks !) in how this US administration is treating Europe, and Canada and Mexico and so on and leaders will have to stand up and be counted here .

No more flattery and appeasement .

I didn't say the tape of him extorting Zelensky would bring him down, but there's no point holding it back now.

I said that I would be surprised if the Ukrainians didn't have tapes of his coercion with Russia. And that would bring him down.

I was one of the few who managed to ignore Trump for the most part in his first presidency. I don't use social media apart from Boards and I don't watch Sky News or Fox or whatever. American politics bores me for the most part.

However it's hard to ignore Trump v2 and I am taking more of an interest.

What strikes me are 2 things:

    (1) He has very little general knowledge. He doesn't seem to know his history either. I imagine his briefings on subjects are very high level (1 slide, 3-5 bullets) and he probably get the rest of his knowledge from social media. His support team appear either equally ignorant or incapable of getting him to listen.

    (2) He seems to think things through in a child like way. Not a very bright child either. And obviously a petulant child. Same goes for VP Vance who I'd never seen in action until seeing that video today with the Ukrainian president. Vance is clearly an amoeba which is worrying.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

    Pigs congratulating other pigs.

Nobody should be in the least bit surprised at that.

    I’m watching this interview now.
My god I’ve never seen anything like it before.
It’s an absolute disgrace from Trump and JD

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,040 ✭✭✭✭briany

Pardon my mistake, but even that wouldn't touch Trump. Or at least I'm struggling to think what it could be in light of what Trump has already been nailed on but sailed through. The only thing I can think that might end him is explicit footage of paedophilic acts in a Moscow hotel room, or something. That might do it, but even then, I can imagine his supporters screaming deepfake etc.

    Where did you see this?

    https://www.rte.ie/news/primetime/2025/0226/1499138-us-vs-europe-who-actually-gives-more-support-to-ukraine/

Military aid 64 billion vs 62 billion. Total aid 118 billion vs 132 billion.

According to the UST data, the US spent €118bn on aid to Ukraine as of 31 December 2024. This is broken down into €64 billion in military aid and €50 billion in financial and humanitarian allocations. A further €4bn has been committed but not yet allocated.

During the same period, European nations and institutions (like the European Commission) had spent around €132bn. That is broken down as €70bn in financial and humanitarian aid and €62 billion in military aid. An additional €115bn has been committed but not yet allocated.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,172 ✭✭✭Damien360

I wasn't discussing spending by each into Ukraine. Ignore that.

I'm talking about military spending EU as a whole Vs US. The argument being the EU would not need the US but we are a very long way off that spend. The idea that the EU could defend itself and it's interests. I don't think we are even remotely ready.

Zelensky showing just how wide of a gap there is between him and Trump in terms of ability to manage emotions. This is his tweet after he had left the White House, sure, it's probably from a PR Aide, but Trump doesn't even have the wherewithal to coordinate that.

    image.png

Thanks America, and uses the @ POTUS handle thereby respecting the office without mentioning Trump, mentions congress and the American people, both who are important with respect to any aid being offered and reiterates his position in working towards a just and lasting peace. The bold on the just is mine there, but its an important word given his scepticism of some participants in this game.

This tweet shows more political nous and diplomacy than we've seen from Trump in one and a bit terms.

And since then, the account is thanking leaders of countries who have come out in support of Ukraine. All very impressively handled. Kudos to them.

Which they will watch again and again ..because asJD said when Zelensky asked him how he knows about Ukraine's conscription when he had never been to the country , he replied " I watched "videos ? ...

I'd laugh , but it's just not funny anymore .

Trump is more than welcome to inspect it from the top and 6.6 seconds later from the bottom.

Zelensky asked Vance if he had ever been to Ukraine to see what was happening down on the ground. This was after Vance gave Zelensky a lecture about the war. Vance replied 'I've actually watched and seen the stories' What a pathetic response from a pathetic man.

Catching up on the several pages of posts since the black box moment of the US descent into madness. The real time reshuffling of the world order is painful to watch and it's impacts will be be felt by us all for years to come. American society has so much to answer for, for enabling this absolute **** show of an administration. Trump and his band of merry criminals and opportunists didn't happen in a vacuum. Whenever the dust settles; the US needs to do some serious soul searching to sort themselves out so they can start rebuilding what Trump and Co are gleefully destroying on an hourly basis.

And to the few Trumpists/Putinists that have crawled out of the woodwork in the last few hours; what is it in your lives that made you gravitate towards these dregs of humanity?

I truly hope that Europe quickly gets its act together; treats the US as a compromised unreliable partner now and massively ramps up its support for Ukraine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,680 ✭✭✭Markus Antonius

He campaigned for Biden so what do you expect? Zelensky acts as though he's the last line of defense for Europe against Russia. Truth is, Putin has no interest in Europe. The defense of that small sliver of Ukraine is becoming too expensive in every sense - lives and money

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,944 ✭✭✭✭Frank Bullitt

Any doubts there might have been about Trump as a politician died in plain sight today.

A bully who just couldn’t handle it at all, and the bootlicker Vance just following orders.

I truly hope history is honest with this moment, VZ showed pure class, he was already a hero to many, now he is a superhero and I want all the glory there can be to Ukraine after this.

No person with an ounce of self respect or intelligence can support Trump after this. A holly human without an ounce of intelligence or class.

Probably like most, I don’t like wishing ill on people, but history has shown that karma comes along. And I hope it comes with an extra dash of pain.

That's all the dignity this den of thieves deserves now. If Musk's sprog took a sh1t there it would be appropriate for this sewer and the vermin that inhabit it. I'd say the actual rats would disdain to tread a claw in the place.
