Clever idea locating it just off the roundabout exit, there cant be any concerns about access or extra traffic. If its approved what will it take - 2 years? Great to see but probably should have been started 2 years ago. Travelled up and down to Dublin last weekend and there were queues at Ionity Circle K Kill West on the way up and Cashel on the way down. Used the ESB 50KW in Cashel as only needed about 20% to get home safely. No-one ever seems to use that anymore which is just as well for situations like that.

There is an issue with Queing in Cashel in that there actually is nowhere to queue

That lack of queue space is common at Ionity actually, I've had to queue in Athone and Gorey, neither have really a clear queuing spot. In both spots you're blocking traffic flow. Especially athlone.

Expensive mistake, €125 clamping fee plus €30 "F**k you" fee from GoCar for being an idiot

Well done Ionity, or was it shopping centre management? 🤔

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 13,580 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

The chargers are beside the apartments and car dealerships. The shopping center is down the road a bit

Probably the same management company though

I'd rather see them towed away but this is an acceptable solution.

I remember when I was in college if you were caught parking in the staff car park they towed you to the pay-on-exit car park and clamped you. So you had to pay to get the clamp off and then again to exit the car park 🤣🤣🤣

Unfortunately tricks like that go both ways, I know a guy who got his car clamped in the university car park so he just went to the breakers and bought another car for cheaper than the release fee

He even "traded" the clamped car for it and told the breakers where it was and that it was clamped. They apparently just shrugged and said they'd get it at some point, the car was sitting there for months before it disappeared

Ionity Waterford seems to have been removed from the "coming soon" section on plugshare. Is this a sign it's not going ahead?

Thankfully charging availability in Waterford has gotten a lot better the last few years

Plugshare is a community site, so if it's been removed then it's because a user removed it and nothing to do with Ionity

Looks like planning was granted so no idea why the location was deleted

    https://www.eplanning.ie/WaterfordCCC/AppFileRefDetails/2360156/0

EDIT: Just checked the Google reviews for the shop, not a lot of happy customers. Maybe someone in Ionity read them and pulled the plug

Perhaps Ionity saw the planning application for 8 Instavolt chargers as part of a McDonalds drive thru around the corner. Add to that the reputation of the owner of the site and reconsidered.

Or maybe someone on Plugshare just got fed up of no progress in the location!

Ionity have "administrator" access on plugshare to their sites and some level of integration with plugshare showing live status. They can lock a site from being edited on plugshare, Tesla can too,

It might be that they just wanted it gone until the site is launched and previous history and comments gone.

This list has it as now building

https://www.irishevassociation.ie/infrastructure-updates yet if I look at ionity coming soon sites I don't see Waterford as " now building'. Did they stop because a pallet was in the way?

I'll drive past on the way home this evening and see if there is any movement from the last picture I posted.

Is that that not the (in)famous site in Waterford? (the one with the picnic tables that the owner would move to block off the previous charger there)

If it is, it might explain if Ionity have changed their minds.

Massed concrete slabs with mounts for chargers are now on-site. If the electricity supply was upgraded when the garage was recently, it could be a very quick turnaround.

I think the petrol station would be off to the right of the photo, the chargers are in a corner of the site as I recall

I don't remember any changes to the forecourt from the planning application

The Google reviews of the shop are hilarious, reads like they don't want any customers

It's going to be funny seeing the reviews getting added from European EV drivers coming from Rosslare and looking for a charge, wondering why the owner is threatening to clamp them after 20 mins

The chargers will be behind the petrol station. The area behind the station was extended, so a much larger area than it used to be.

Logic suggests the owner is either gone or is not massively happy with getting the chargers in. Meaning when they go live I must go out of my way to charge here

Oh yeah I'm definitely finding some excuse to head down to Waterford 😂

I'm doing Meath to Derry & back tomorrow. Was planning to go via Belfast to avail of Ionity charging as it's quick & reliable.

Is it worth taking out Passport Power/Motion for the cheaper rate & cheap introductory monthly subscription? Then cancel the subscription next day, Sunday & use Revolut too?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,786 ✭✭✭✭Red Silurian

Only you can answer the question on what is "worth" it as it depends on how many kWh you intend to put into your car and how many times you intend to do it in a month

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 1,639 ✭✭✭denismc

I think anything over 25 kWh and you would be better off on the "Passport Power" tariff.

There is also Ionity in Toome which might suit your trip better but mobile signal there can be poor.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 224 ✭✭dsandson

Yup, signal is poor there so you're better using an RFID card IMO, if you have one thats compatible. Or use Plug & Charge is you have a compatible car - thats mostly VW group cars, some BMWs and some of the newer Kias and Hyundais

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 8,920 ✭✭✭ongarite

Heard the mobile signal is poor in Toome alright. Don't have any RFID charger cards

Centra shop has public WiFi that you can use to start charging with app.

Received an email from IONITY about price rises in April due to VAT changes, what VAT changes are coming in?

    Dear PASSPORT customer,

As we're sure you already know, the VAT in Ireland will raise from April 1. In the course of this, we're slightly increasing our charging prices per kWh.

Starting from April 1 2025, the following new charging prices per kWh will apply in Ireland:

    • PASSPORT Motion: 0.53 €/kWh (instead of 0.50 €/kWh)
    • PASSPORT Power: 0.44 €/kWh (instead of 0.42 €/kWh)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,196 ✭✭✭innrain

For the period from 01 May 2022 to 30 April 2025, the following supplies are subject to the second reduced rate of VAT:

    • the supply of electricity

For those who don't want to go near the revenue, the rate is changing from 9% to 13.5%.
