Those 2 new in Kill North Still not active, still wrapped partially in plastic so at least it's obvious they aren't ready.
Same in Cashel - 2 new chargers, wrapped up all cozy.

Kill North is finally getting busy, saw it full for first time ever this Sunday Afternoon.

Cashel is going to be fun - with 4 chargers it's already getting ICEd frequently with McDonalds overspill, on top of being popular.

Can't see Ionity dropping their prices until others do - from my anecdotal weekend journeys The M7/8 shows they've finally gotten busy.

I thought Cashel had improved a bit with more EVs using the site the ICE drivers were starting to get the message

There'll always be a few though, spotted one guy parked in a charging bay at Applegreen Santry a few weeks back. The car park was full so I assume he took the only spot available

I was tempted to park at the pumps while I went in for a coffee, purely to balance out the universe 😏

Ionity pricing was the same or similar across Europe I thought. I can't see them customizing to the Irish market much.

The finglas site is here, first decent non Tesla hub.

I saw this on another thread, quote

I was at Ionity Kill North yesterday and it had a payment terminal installed there, but not yet turned on. Single unit for all the chargers. They'll probably do similar elsewhere I'd guess.

I initially thought it was Charlestown in Mayo, all getting ready for when the Oasis lads roll into town to see the cousins. 😁

Ionity famously haven't built any stations outside of the greater Dublin region yet. There's was rumors of one in Waterford last year but they're sitting on it as far as I can tell

    And Athlone, and Cashel.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,278 ✭✭✭RainInSummer

    And two up the North.

As a dub I would like to welcome the residents of Cashel, Gorey, Toome and Belfast to the greater Dublin area 😉

    EDIT: Also Athlone

    Ye Dubs and your Lebensraum.

On a more topical note, I see the next two chargers in Gorey are yet to be commissioned.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 13,580 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

All the existing sites were due to be upgraded to 6 chargers, looks like that's well underway

Athlone is the last one to be confirmed as expanded

Also don't worry about Dublin expansionism. Bosses have been forcing people back to the office so the idea of moving away from Dublin to avoid shocking property prices and working remotely isn't as popular 😔

I see Ionity Dublin is now active in the app, anyone swung by yet to try it out?

I was there today collecting another German barge in the wonderful duffys (sarcasm). I walked down to check them out. Some are operational and some are not. You can tell by the bright lighted halos above them. Good set up. Hopefully not iced but today was a Saturday, build up to Xmas and none were today, so that’s a good sign.

    No idea on speeds though.
from memory the screen displayed 77c/kwh but don’t quote me on that.

Ugh, visiting Duffy's should be considered a war crime. Hope you made it out with your sanity intact

Snapped a few pictures yesterday as I was in the area. The halo lights do look cool at night

Do the different colours mean anything?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 19,930 ✭✭✭✭ELM327

Yes. When working fine, green means available and purple means in use. Presumably red or off means OOO

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,072 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

That's what confused me about the picture, the purple ones are all unattended.

Must have been a test day or something. There are two of the new style at my regular ionity (gorey - thanks to the crap range of mrs elm's Ora). The green when available and purple in use was what I have observed.

The lights on the top are handy when the units can be offline you can see easily before you pull in. They should have this on all stalls.

    https://support.ionity.eu/en/general-questions/ionity-chargers-halo-colours

Helpfully switches to German halfway through but basically white is available, pulsing purple is charging, solid purple is fully charged, red is farked

Interesting, hadn't noticed green lights before. I assumed they'd stayed away from the green/red convention to make it easier for colourblind users to see whats happening

It's a good system overall, could be a bit easier to interpret but it makes it very easy to spot the chargers and see which are available

Planning gone in for another Ionity Hub at Circle K J14 M8. From Cork to Belfast it will be almost Norway like (need a decent hub in Cork itself though).

Applicant name: Ionity GmbH. Permission for the construction of a high-power electric vehicle charging station consisting of 24 no. electric vehicle charging bays and all associated ancillary development including 2 no. electricity sub-stations, 24 no. power supply cabinets, pedestrian access, boundary treatments, landscaping and seating area at the Circle K service station.

Circle K Service Station, Junction 14 on M8 Motorway, Gortroe and Moorepark West (townland), Fermoy, Co.Cork

That's interesting as there's already 6 x 150KW chargers (3 units) there, Circle K brand. I'd have thought Circle K would want to protect their investment rather than let a competitor in there?

I stop there for a top-up on a same-day return trip Dublin-Cork for work, and I've never seen more than 3 cars charging. Usually charge on the way back around 4pm/5pm, but occasionally on the way down at around 8am, and it's never been busy.

Not sure 24 Ionity bays there is the best use of them, considering other routes/locations could be much better served and would probably be busier with 2 x 12-bay Ionity hubs. Still, it makes the M8 pretty much a doddle with so many units along it…

I was just over on the Supercharger thread saying not to get too excited about planning applications, it could be years before the hub is built

I suppose Fermoy is going to be the "Cork" hub given Ionity are mostly focused on intercity travel rather than neighborhood charging

Still 24 bays is not to be taken lightly, it's good to see they're investing in the long term

Firstly there's likely to be rules coming down to line forcing TII service station operators to allow more than one charge point operator on their forecourts. The options realistically are easygo, ionity, ecars or tesla because they can't really be expected to allow Applegreen or Maxol into their forecourts. Ecars and Tesla would be competitive on price so that only leaves easygo or Ionity and presumably Ionity gave them the better deal. Speculation here but I'd imagine that's how it happened

Just looking at the M8 on plugshare. Starting at Cork going towards the M7. Fermoy is the first potential charging stop then Cashel which has 5 chargers and Ballacolla which has 2 (or 10 if you drive a Tesla)

Going the other direction then from Killarney to Dungarvan along the N72 you pretty much just have Fermoy as a charging hub

So sticking 24 chargers here could be beneficial for all parties, certainly in the future scheme of things

Circle k and Ionity did have a history of tie-ins though

There's only 6 TII service stations everything else has been done privately.

Tranche 1 are the Applegreen stations on the M1 and Enfield. Tranche 2 was Athlone, Kilcullen and Gorey. Any enforced competition rules wouldn't have much of an impact.

CircleK's primary business is the convenience store not the fuel operations, I'd say they're very happy to work with Ionity who will provide them with a bunch of captive customers without needing to pay for the charging infrastructure themselves. This contrasts to Applegreen who've shown they want to own the on-site charging themselves.

On a smaller scale, Ionity would be very well known with EV drivers across Europe anybody touring around the country from Britain, France or Spain would likely be aware of Ionity's fast speed and high reliability levels

I think the infrastructure side is what really swung it. Circle K have 900kW of potential demand there, Ionity could have up to 8,400kW

There's numerous reports of power limiting on PlugShare so I wouldn't be surprised if Circle K are going to let Ionity pay for grid upgrades and ride their coat tails for their chargers

I also absolutely agree that for Circle K the goal is to get customers into shops. We've seen they're replacing several Londis newsagents with Circle K branding, likely as a way of diversifying away from fuel
