How long is it taking for them to update the online record nowadays?

I paid my class 2's in August, confirmed they received payment, but still showing as Class 3 on the website.

    See my post #462

Currently its taking 56 Weeks from receipt of monies before its allocated

. If it gets within 6 months of pension age and still not allocated call to get it sorted as they can put it through as a priority.

Wake me up when it's all over.

My problem with this is if not showing payment of NIC paid and no receipt issued for payment or anything to say what level of pension is going to be paid , it is very doubtful that anyone should continue to pay annual NICs when they arise.

    I am in this position.

I paid last July (beginning) and have been assured last October that they have received the payment and it will be applied within 6 weeks . Still not done . I also asked for a receipt at the very least . Promised but still nothing

I can't afford to pay more if I don't receive some receipt of payment

It goes against every sensible approach that we are expected to pay more large sums of money with nothing being updated online or a letter of receipt. I appreciate they are busy and swamped etc but it is very poor practice and frankly bordering on negligent at this stage .

    I find it worrying .

Spoke to them Friday just to confirm my recent payment, was told it will take up to a year to allocate your payment to the pacific year you requested and to update on line.

I found most of the people I have spoken to pleasant and helpful but this time he just wanted to get rid of my me , repeating didn't you ask my colleague these questions last time?.

That's one thing I can say for them when you send a payment it is pretty quick when they can confirm they have it, normally about a week , I have sent 2 payments now a month apart

Did you send your national insurance number with your payment .

Where are you able to see this detailed info? Link?

I paid last April. Still not reflected on my online record.

However when I was last talking to them in September, they offered me written confirmation of my payment and the years it's being allocated to.

    @54and56

Gov.uk website . You need a number to log in and create your account to see your forecasted pension .

You have to ask them to send you the number after they verify your identity , passport pictures etc

Yes, received it within a few weeks. It broke down my total payment by the years it is being allocated to.

I've been assessed as Class 2 and I want to pay for some back years before the April deadline but I seem to be going round in circles trying to find how to do this.

The letter from HMRC sends me to - https://www.gov.uk/pay-class-2-national-insurance

That page then sends me to -

    https://www.gov.uk/pay-class-2-national-insurance/if-you-work-or-live-abroad

This page then sends me to another page for online payments -

    https://www.gov.uk/pay-class-2-national-insurance/make-online-telephone-bank-transfer

This page gives bank account account details to pay into, but it also says - There’s a different way to pay Class 2 National Insurance contributions if you live or work abroad permanently. That page it links to has no bank details, just a link to the CF83 form. Where do I get the details for what bank account to pay into, do I have to ring them?

    @griffin100

This is what I followed and it all worked out well for me. (Though did 70mins on the phone to them today to check if the payment had been specifically allocated and they said it had not yet - but was visible - and had no idea when/how long it would take to attribute - but am guessing/hoping that money in before cutoff is better than not!)

I called yesterday about my application for Class 2 and the lady said a letter was in the post and Class 2 not possible as my credits are juvenile credits and the actual amount of NI paid is very low. She said the letter will take 4 weeks to get to me and I can't make Class 3 payments till I get it (although she did give me the bank details).

I don't think I have the time or a real basis to appeal and should probably consider myself lucky to be able to do Class 3 at all.

I called them today 45 minutes on hold.

It was quick though when I got through, I sent payment in October...they have confirmed it was received finally and they said should be allocated in next few weeks they have years noted I am paying all the class 2 ones. So I think I am ok. Will need to pay for 2025 in April but they said another letter will come out on that.

Thanks for help on this thread.

Fat chance it will be allocated that fast. As I posted earlier its taking 56 weeks from receipt to get allocated.

This is the big problem with phoning, you get the wrong information and in a few weeks when you go on line and see that the payment hasn't been allocated you ring again and again get the wrong information. Must be tens of thousands of people doing the same thing.

I've been given all sorts of incorrect info about time taken to allocate monies. The last rep said they still haven't allocated money received over a year ago and that the current wait is around 56 weeks. The rep also said not to waste my time calling again unless I was 6 months from retirement when they can expedite it.

Wake me up when it's all over.

Ah ok. I suppose key thing is they have the money and they know how to allocate it? I'd say a huge rush for that April deadline.

Got an email it has been allocated. Confirmation of years etc.

I sent letter by registered post and also logged a complaint I would say that helped!

Had a notification on HMRC app yesterday. Was hoping it was to say payment had been allocated but was to confirm my tax code had been updated to NT which I think is non resident. I had sent in Form 85 to get this through a few months back & had forgotten all about it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,417 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

    It has indeed.

I skipped class 3 and just paid class 2 which were majority for me. Will just pay each April from now on they said they would send out letter.

Thanks for this advice. Paid via Revolut on Wednesday, spoke to an advisor today who confirmed receipt of money and assigned it to the earliest gap years in my record (72 minutes on hold for a 1 minute conversation!).

For people who have sent their PRSI Contribution Statement to support their employment record, may I ask please did anybody send it successfully by email (and if yes, what email address did you send it to?) or was it sent by post?

    Thanks

    I sent it by post.

I rang today to let them know which years the payment I made last week should be allocated to.

While on the phone I asked them about the payment I made last April still now showing on my online account. The person I was speaking with fixed it while I was on the phone. When I got off the call I logged into my HMRC account, and everything was updated for the earlier payment showing the years as paid and an updated pension forecast.
