New thread as the last thread seems to be broken.

Ferguson looked OK today. Put in a great ball that Kudus should have scored from, before getting a shot away later on. Should get more opportunities under Potter, you would think.

Had booked this but now can’t go because of work. Return flights to Sofia via Frankfurt at face value. Tuesday to Friday.

    Genuine offer.

    PM if interested

Women's team have dominated their game against Turkey and finally got a goal just before half time.

The pitch in Tallaght is heavy as fudge. Ball is just stopping dead in places

I was surprised there was no thread on here for it. Show's the level of interest I suppose.

I was there. It wasn't great. Have seen them play better.

Terrible result for the Women's team today against Slovenia. Whatever honeymoon period Ward was going to have is gone after that.

Got motm too, I think he should be the front runner for the RB position v Bulgaria.

no one on any Irish fan platform seems to have noticed that PSV were sensationally knocked out of the Dutch cup last night so that leaves AZ with Heracles and Go Ahead Eagles (both kind of minnows) standing between them and the Dutch cup

What has that got to do with discussion about the Republic of Ireland football team at all ?

I guess the connection being that Parrott is in with a great shout of a first trophy to cap an excellent season. Valid enough comment in an Irish thread during a quiet period…

The question does kind of have to be asked now - if Ferguson doesn’t start playing a lot more very soon, does Parrott take his place up front for the March internationals? Himself and Szmodics undoubtedly our forwards with the best seasons behind them.

Szmodics only back from injury and many would say Idah has had a better season. I think it's Idah or Ferguson up front with Parrott/Szmodics coming in from the wing

Would definitely have Parrott's season well ahead of Idah's. Idah's also been consistently disappointing for Ireland. Szmodics just coming back is a wee bit of a worry alright, though he has three more games with Ipswich to get back into the swing of things, which I think will be enough to see him take his spot comfortably enough as long as he gets some decent game time. He's been so good for us that it's very hard to leave him out.

If Parrott makes a big impression in the 2 games against Tottenham (and wouldn't he just love to) then he has to have a great chance of starting up front against Bulgaria.

Ferguson has looked sharp though in his sub appearances for West ham and a couple of starts and a goal or 2 before the Bulgaria game would probably swing it for him.

Regardless whether Parrott impresses or not against Spurs he should be a starter for Ireland. He's the most in form Irish striker over the past two seasons, regularly scoring in the Eredivise and in the Europa League.

Who he should be paired with is up for grabs, whether it be Ferguson, Idah, Szmodics, or Cannon.

Parrott is having the type of season we would have killed for one of our strikers to have a couple of years ago. Granted a lot of his goals have been penalties but he is starting for a decent European club and scoring in big matches. Should definitely be a starter in March.

Heimar will almost certainly pick Ferguson if he’s getting minutes.

    This.

If Ferguson is fit HH will start him imo. Can't find the quotes but HH was bigging him up mad after taking over.

Along the lines he feels Ferguson is someone who'll make things happen out of nothing or doesn't need the ball on a plate to take his chances. He definitely sees Ferguson as our best and likely first choice striker.

Is the constant screeching from the fans as annoying in real life as it is on tv? I don't know what it is about women's games but its consistent with them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,666 ✭✭✭glenjamin

Ferguson came on for a sub for the final 17 mins against Leicester.

Parrott played 120 mins in the cup. Missed his penalty but AZ progressed anyway to the final.

was dramatic with a capital D. Troy had a terrible 2nd half and extra time (didn’t see the first) capped by a bad penalty

Can Parrot play as a number 10? Or did HH try that already? I know he gave Finn Azaz a start there in the last window and I feel that Parrot was also tried there … ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,111 ✭✭✭Did you smash it

probably played there against Greece away. He’s a good footballer. Is he our best option in any position in the Irish team? Heimar doesn’t think so. Think Parrott needs injuries to others to establish himself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,788 ✭✭✭tigger123

He's clearly thriving with AZ. Would be great to find a way to have him, Ferguson and Sammie on the pitch (without pushing Sammie out wide).

A lot of the women's games have groups of (usually young teen girl) teams on a team day out at them. It makes for a very wholesome (if slightly high pitched) atmosphere. It can be a bit irritating at times, but mostly it's great to see the enthusiasm.

I actually find it more annoying on the tv - because the microphone often seems to be right beside a particularly bad offender. It's less piercing in person. Although, the last match we were at (missed the Turkey one because I was sick) my very non-screechy teen was channelling her inner grumpy old man and complaining that they should just be quiet and watch the football, if that's what they were there for. 🤣

Azaz started there for the win away to Finland and then was dropped for the next game away to Greece for Parrott.

Don't think Parrott can play as the ten for us as I don't think we have the midfield to play with two strikers unless HH plays 352.
