It seems Charles III knows how to sweeten the deal, mentioning how Trump could golf at his own course and visit Balmoral in the letter the PM couriered to Trump.

Might be looking for hints from HM on how the King Gig rocks.

One hopes he leaves his crown at home, just in case he tries to upstage his host.

Trump owns two golf courses in Scotland so he will probably get a round of golf in and charge the US taxpayer for his entourage / security staying at one of his properties

So a question is: whom in the UK Govt plays golf to a level that he could stand a chance against Trump and be able to "throw" a round with him in a plausible manner, while having an off the cuff chat with him about their tried and tested "across the pond" relationship going back over two world wars?

If the UK party could get him alone, using security concerns advice from both the US and UK security services protecting both people that unvetted persons were not not present while conversations were ongoing between Charles and Trump, the course of the future could be changed.

Trump was asked today did he still think that Zelensky was a dictator and he responded with "Did I say that? I can't believe I said that."

He's either gaslighting, or genuinely doesn't know what he said. This the guy who campaigned on and still talks about how Joe Biden didn't know what was going on.

I was thinking more about the Tate brothers situation this evening. These are two people who face human trafficking charges in their own country who the Trump administration apparently directly intervened to have a travel ban on them lifted which was done and they have now landed in America after flying there on private jet.

So much of the GOP and Trump rhetoric about immigration is about removing harmful people (who Trump called rapists and thieves) from America and here is his administration directly intervening in the judicial process in another country so as to allow two people with very strong evidence as to the danger they possess to women to effectively flee the charges.

I think this might actually have been done to give a two fingers to opponents of the administration given how blatantly it conflicts the narrative the administration has been pushing. It's pettiness at an incredible level. Of course, it's not to be forgotten that the Tates push a very right wing narrative on social media and the administration recognizes the benefit for them in having them talking freely.

Would love to see the Trump admirers and defenders return here to explain how this isn't what it appears to be.

They will wheel the Tate's out to talk about how corrupt Romania is and how they stopped the election and stopped Putin's puppet from getting in boo hoo.

If anyone believes what the Tate brothers say, they need medical help.

True, loves Scotland in particular, where his mother was from. Sounds like a trade deal with the UK is also in the pipeline, hastened by his Royal invitation and all the pageantry that goes with it. Thought Starmer actually did a good job (for once).

In many ways Trump is like Baron Bomburst in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, a king in his own mind, a simple creature who loves himself, being praised & entertained whilst having his ego massaged. so I hope Micheál has something up his sleeve when he arrives at the Whitehouse in March. Lots of Irish jobs on the line here, so Mr T needs to be to be told that keeping those jobs here in Ireland is a really good thing for trade.

Companies aren't gonna up operations over a single presidency. The biggest concern in relation to jobs is the recession he's gonna create.

When Trump visited his Turnberry Golf course, Scotland in 2016. The sign holder is no longer with us but the sign is still valid today

No, he isn't. He's only interested in personal gain.

The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.

What we don't know yet is how Trump figures on getting the mineral and oil products exported from Ukraine to the US without the neighbouring countries getting some benefit from it and that's after the goods have gone through as much treatment on European soil to reduce costs at the US factory-end. It would be necessary for there to be safe ports and shipping routes on the route, along with no tariffs on these particular exported goods at the US end, seeing that Trump wants to benefit fully from the "deal" he's fostered.

People hugely buy in to their messaging. It's on the extreme end of the JoeRogan/Jordan Peterson narrative.

Not all people thankfully, but a demographicwho become hardened against progressive messaging from that point.

If a guy is listening to the Tates from age 15 to 18, he's then listening to Rogan for a couple years and also Charlie Kirk, Ben Shapiro, Steve Bannon etc.

It builds a very damaged and ingrained mindset. Very.

Tates are completely vile and if the Trump administration did facilitate their release its equally vile and to be honest not surprising. However lets try not to conflate different issues. The Tates are American citizens so legally entitled to return to the country

Macron gave a MASTER CLASS on how to ‘manage Trump and still get your point across. We all laughed when Michael Noonan - finance minister at the time I think - many years ago and way before Trump became president the first time actually got a red carpet rolled out for Trump as he stepped onto the tarmac at Shannon Airport. He also had two failing playing violins at the bottom of the steps. Noonan was away ahead of his time in providing the type of environment that butters up Trump. A kind of mini / simple MASTERCLASS by Noonan

The St Patrick's day invite has finally landed. Although I think they might have been better off without it this year

Absolutely no one WANTS to host Trump for a visit anywhere.

But , fair play to the UK - They used the tools available to them to appeal to his vanity and narcissism.

Give him a parade and tell him he's awesome and hopefully he'll F*ck off for a while seems to be the plan.

    #MEGA MAKE EUROPE GREAT AGAIN

Given Trumps comments on Ireland through the years were obviously in his sights and one of the driving reasons for tarrifs - honestly I’m not looking forward to the open press conference where Martin will be paraded in public - a “warm welcome” it will not be- more like a humiliation - maybe some cutsy iriosh humour might work but given trump doesn’t have a sense of humour I’d doubt it.

I don’t envy Martin and I wish him only the very best - no wonder Mary Lou was insisting he goes if invited- she’s already ordered in the popcorn

Don't forget , they are technically Co-Hosts with Canada so depending on how badly things go on that front (especially if the Liberals hold on to power) the whole thing could get very interesting

THAT VIDEO!!!!!! It will be interpreted like one interprets an abstract painting - each viewer has their own idea as to what’s it about and when they see it again ,say, a few weeks later they could have a totally different interpretation. So, knowing Trump , he could change his mind on a daily basis - no , give it a few days until his memory erases what he thought a few days previously, think VZ /dictator episode- as to why it was produced and what the purpose of it is about !!!!!!!!

I actually didn't realize they had American citizenship. Interesting.

If they do, I wonder why was De Santis saying he was looking at ways to keep them out of Florida?

And Mexico….. if The US get dumped out at group stages and other two qualify it will be interesting to see how quickly MAGA turns on football.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,657 ✭✭✭✭Igotadose

MAGA would never turn on football! Now, soccer's one of them woke Euroooope sports, who cares, amiright?

He is incredibly vengeful and impactful, and is in the position of supreme authority.

It's all well and good to wish leaders would ignore him but he has the ability and motivation to make things very difficult for your countries interests.

Say Micheal Martin turned down the invite or was particularly rude while attending. Trump could respond by saying the undocumented Irish in America were going to be an ICE target for the next month.

I'd be fine with Martin spending the visit talking about our historical closeness and Doonbeg and not to give Trump time to start talking about taking Apple or the likes out of Ireland. Martin can then continue to empower Palestine and vote to hold Russia, US and Israel to account in UN votes and the likes as Ireland has been doing, to some degree. It's politics, that's the game. And now more than ever we've seen how morally corrupt it is. It's a survival situation right now.

I wonder if he'll bring all his craven adult sprogs with him, like he did last time? I remember there being a bit of surprise when he did that, given that State Visit invites are usually for the person and their +1, not the entire cast of his adult children who likely treated it like some kind of Trump-family junket.

Makes me wonder what Ivanka is up to these days. Been a while since that time Donnie brought her a summit to lurk around actual world leaders.
