Come on man, they have left wing views but they're not calling for the abandonment of all personal belongings and the destruction of all corporations. They're part of a multimedia company and this is their livelihood. I think this post is ridiculous.

Kimmage live at the Olympia in September 2023. It's the one where David O'Doherty interrupted.

Seems like a weird move as others have said. I was presuming it would be free to World Service members too. I possibly would have watched it but I doubt I'll pay a fiver for it.

How "beautifully shot" can an interview on a stage be? I'm sure it would be a good watch, but I've heard the interview already...I feel they should put something like this out to their members for free. But fair enough if that's what they want.

I'm a fan of Paul Kimmage and of David O'Doherty but thought Kimmage came across as a bit of a prick with his shouting at Eoin and The bit with DOD didn't really land

Seems odd to release this as a pay to watch video when it was so long ago

Charging a 5er for an interview when you have already made a chunk of money off the show?

Absolute fleecing behaviour & complete chancery. Thats not about personal belongings, that's about squeezing consumer surplus to it's last cent.

As I said - one of the greatest examples that I have seen of a pat down of customers in a while

The interview is available to world service subscribers on the podcast feed.

They’re a podcast, you pay for audio, there’s nothing wrong with charging for the video. You don’t have to pay it. You can listen at no additional cost

I understand how individual transactions work, thanks.

I’m discussing the principle of consumer surplus works and how looking to extract as much as possible is a pat down of your customers.

do you want me to patronisingly explain it to you, like you have above?

I’ll certainly be steering clear of yourself. Far better things to do with my time

    Thanks.

You are taking a high ground stance against your behaviour being pushed back onto you?

    Good man

Our posts are in no way similar.

Ones a response with rationale. The other is someone being a….

the irony shouldn’t be lost on you here.

You’re behaving in one way then moralistically scolding someone else for doing the same thing

Which is essentially what I am accusing the lads of doing with their attempts to charge for a single interview

That's why I thought it might have been a more recent Kimmage interview that I missed. Odd it took 18 months to get that video together, must of been some edit! Heard it, enjoyed it immensely, dont need to pay to see it no matter how well shot it is.

I don't get this point of view.

You don't have to buy it.

I presume they're looking to connect with new customers. I think it was here a few months ago that someone mentioned they don't really have a video presence. There are loads of people who engage with their social media that way. YouTube is massive business and i know The anfield wrap offer separate audio, video and a bundle.

I prefer audio but the odd time i will watch a youtube cast of something.

It's not so much that they are releasing a video it's that there's a charge for a video of a segment of a live show from 18 months ago that world service members were either at or have heard previously that irks me. I'm not sure who this product is for and doubt it's going to bring in a flurry of new subscribers but if it does happy days. Which brings me back to the question why charge world service members for it.

Ps, not directed at you, but it's ok to criticise elements of second captains output.

Why this interview? Has Kimmage been announced as the next Dalai Lama or something?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,580 ✭✭✭The Davestator

I don't get the annoyance either. So far, it's been mentioned once - if they push it every episode like Gibney or Steak knife, then it will be annoying.

Who exactly are they fleecing here? I don't get it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28 sbtr2023

Anyone who pays for that has too much money.. absolutely demented, I hate the live interviews on the pod after the shows, they are always bigged up, and for the most part dissapoint, and the quality is crap

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 832 ✭✭✭cheese sandwich

Almost always a case of you had to be there. What works in front of a boozed-up live audience tends not to land so well on a podcast.

in true Ken style he goes on his holliers and the league is almost decided while he's gone.

It's amazing how often a big football story happens when Kens on holiday 😁

Yeah, I'd kinda agree, not completely the same. I don't enjoy interviews in general. I'm paying for the lads who are talented with language to entertain me about a topic i like.

Listening to players completely contradict themselves or clearly misrepresent what happened drives me mad. I'd often agree with the interviewer when they don't pull up the star that it wasn't the right time, i just don't want to hear it in the first place.

If they sold talking dolls with clips of previous shows it wouldn't bother me, i just wouldn't get one.

Brennan's started out making one type of bread and now they make 50 different types. Doesn't bother me, i just buy the one i want.

Great listen today with Fintan McCarthy.

Really don't understand the annoyance over that Kimmage interview… the audio's already free for World Service subscribers. Maybe a very rare few subscribers will want to buy it for the visuals, but I'd imagine the vast majority of the target here is the huge audience of people who are NOT subscribers who may be interested in this interview as a once off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,031 ✭✭✭deisedude

Just seems really odd because the interview is 18 or so months ago. Not like it's something new

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,577 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

that’s definitely a bit odd alright, but not something for lads to be annoyed about… I’d guess they just had this idea more recently of selling individual high profile interviews to non-members and the Kimmage one came to mind as a lad a lot of people might have an interest in.

I’m not sure there’s much demand there for one 30 minute interview at that sort of price point - but a package of, say, 3 or 4 of the years best interviews at 5 or 6 quid to non members might have a market. Sort of a ‘best of’ they can sell, and use as a tool to bring in more members.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28 sbtr2023

I'm not annoyed, I just think it's a bad idea and won't sell.. I only get annoyed at Audiobeds!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 228 ✭✭Appletart Upsetter

I'll qualify this by saying I look forward to the 2 free Podcasts on a Monday more than any of the other shows I subscribe to. However, like a number of other shows, they have gone for quantity over quality for the World Members feed.

3 well produced shows a week is more then enough content from any podcast, if they put that behind a paywall I'd likely resubscribe. There is was to much filler and this Kimmage interview is more of that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,803 ✭✭✭✭siblers

Really enjoyed it. He comes across really well

Between this interview and last weeks with Charlie O'Leary, there's loads of potential to make a regular feature out of these types of episodes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56 ✭✭choosetheend

Talking dolls eh? Sounds like a great idea. An action figure of Murph and you pull the string and he says, "I had a Belgian waffle" or asks a two minute question that goes nowhere.

Ken: "What happened to it? Dublin happened to it".

Eoin: "Would it be fair to say, anyone could have managed those guys?"

Surely Eoin's would be "I have a metronomic stroke rate"?
