The irony is, to his base, they see him as owning the libs with this ****.

Mental that this is just another news day from America - their president openly threatening state governors. If you want to know what incrementalism looks like or what it has done in the States, imagine this exact same exchange, but with Bill Clinton or George W. Bush. You can imagine it, but it would seem dark, strange and unbecoming.

As Trump continues his effort to rule by decree (remember when he said 'dictator for a day'? It''s now around a month.) this will surely invite a lot of legal standoffs with blue states, not keen on implementing his illiberal pronouncements. The question is what the breaking point will be and when will it happen?

Well I for one believe Canada should make a peace deal now, to end USA conflict, before anymore lives are lost, give up some of that land behind their imaginary line, and do a deal on all their minerals!! 🤔😋

    somewhat plausible

    No. It isn't.

Any gesture indicating heartfelt sentiment or emotion doesn't require a rapid forceful extension of the right hand while wearing a grimace on your face.

Stop making excuses for it. You'll be telling us next Hitler was pointing at some chemtrails.

Okay Musk was mimicking Hitler, but Hitler wasn't doing a Nazi salute, he was spreading love.

Anyway Europe started the war and they should never have fought back against Germany.

    Dictators all of them.

Bear in mind, yesterday, Bannon said on stage at CPAC that they want Trump for 2028. That's the first time it's been stated as an active goal.

Saw videos on social media tonight of conservatives been vigorously challenged at Town Hall meetings (in conservative districts) particularly over Trumps claim to be a Kink comments. At least someone is getting annoyed, we're still waiting for most Democrats to do so.

nope …. only the possibility for a heavyweight third term democrat candidate, but I think MAGA will do enough damage that even Kamala could run again

Well whoever won last night got to keep all of that, hard luck USA.

You're talking like there are going to be free and fair elections in 2028, which is looking more doubtful by the day. Only the other day, Trump signed an executive order designed to extend presidential control over a number of US federal agencies, including their elections commission.

    https://www.reuters.com/world/us/trump-tightens-grip-independent-agencies-test-limits-of-presidential-power-2025-02-20/

These EOs will be met with legal challenges, but if those fail, US democracy is well and truly fcked, and you shudder to think what Trump and team will be able to achieve even before the US midterms, never mind the next presidential election.

I'm wishing that some-one who's been shown the door by Doge will get a hold of certain peoples tax returns data info and leave it at WaPo's front door as an anonymous tip.

Correct, this is more alarming as his statements regarding Ukraine having started the war and saying what Putin is telling him to say; its called unitary executive theory, and it will give him absolute executive power and control over the military without any recourse of Congress of the courts of the USA.

This means he will be allowed

    • to fire or order members of the executive branch of government without recourse,
    • disregard laws if the interfere with his exercising of power over the executive branch (invoking national security as a rationale, for example)
    • give him additional discretion on decisions regarding wars and law enforcement, per above.
    • launch military operations without Congressional review/approval if he cited 'national security' as the reason, and given the fact hes cited 'national security' as a means of imposing tariffs against the free trade agreements with Canada and Mexico (he negotiated them in his last term, and this term publically stated they were the worst deal ever, an idiot mustve agreed it, etc.), he is well versed in doing so.
    • bypass Congress and courts in making declarations of war

As said, this is still just the first month, it will keep escalating from here, moreso once he hosts Putin in Washington. Exiting NATO, withdrawing US troops from Europe, and leavign the G7 and establishing a rival setup to those organsiations with Russia will come next. This has so manay parallels with the 1930's and is progressing so fast; the entire world order for nearly the past century has been undone in a couple of weeks, its surreal watching it unfold in real time.

Only reason McDonald isn't going is because Trump couldn't care less if she goes or not.

A glimpse of the real Trump in action. He's a very unpleasant person, but we don't usually get to see this side of him in front of the cameras.

Don't know if you've seen the movie Civil War but it's an even more disturbing watch today than it was less than a year ago.

would it not be more of a protest if she actually went and only meet with those groups that support SF, etc, etc. I noted that she /SF has no problem with the current behaviour of Putin/Ru and Trumps support for same

What's the issue here? Do Maine still allow men to compete in women's sports?

I'm on the verge of a site ban. Please don't rage bait me, I'm easily triggered especially late at night!

Just like any bully, he cowers behind others and falls apart when confronted directly.

that is incrdible, surely he's broken a few laws there?

not that stuff like that bothers him.

Does it matter? It's not like any law enforcement agency or the corrupt supreme court will care.

I'm not making excuses for him. I can't stand Musk and couldn't stand him long before it was popular to say that. No one would be happier to see that clown get his comeuppance.

All I'm saying is that it's not beyond reasonable doubt.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,146 ✭✭✭✭Frank Bullitt

You nailed it there. THIS is the real Trump, he only cares about power and himself.

He is a pig of a human.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 31,654 ✭✭✭✭looksee

Thats a bit unfair, pigs are generally amiable animals.

He really sounds creepy there, nasty, as he would say himself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,979 ✭✭✭✭Strazdas

There's a touch of the nasty dictator about him here, a bully with absolutely no manners.

Ironically, his base will be lapping this stuff up…..'birds of a feather flock together' and all that, they're as bad as him.

If there's any positive that's come out of this tyrant , this will have to spur Europe on to getting their **** together and stop relying on America.

Stop bending over for this tyrant, stop relying on his military, Europe needs to get its own defence in order. We have a war on our back door and Russia getting everything they want and whats stopping them invading the Baltic states next.

NATO in my eyes is dead because of tyrant

I **** hate that Ireland is relying on these American companies, we are really susceptible to this tyrants mood.

Europe should be helping Ukraine more and instead of Ukraine selling their rich resources back to Trump they should keep it within Europe

Imagine if Ukraine decides to sell their resources to the EU, I could only imagine the head on Trump.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,348 ✭✭✭ForestFire

At least doing a deal with Europe could include membership and benefits returned in other ways long into the future….rather than dealing with a fool like Trump and Elon….I mean these too could bring Bible end of days seem plausible…trumpets from the west…..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,893 ✭✭✭Wolf359f

If Europe gets it's defense in order, it will be at the expense of the US defense industry. For pretty much all US hardware there's an equal, if not superior version for a fraction of the price. The issue being the European manufacturers were just not producing them in enough quantities. You could also argue they were not really battle tested until Ukraine used them in battle.

He’s doing the right thing by women, a lot of people not just his base agree with him. I’ve friends still stuck in the he’s literally hitler phase of tds but they do agree with him on this. All fathers of daughters it’s worth noting.

The Governor of Maine could have picked a better hill to die on in fairness. The vast majority of Americans agree that men have no place in Women's Sports.

And in this strategic vein, avoid insulting Trump voters, being consumed by pathetic hysteria and emphasising leftist stances on social issues.

This is how Democrats lose, and lose badly. Remember that most Americans don’t view things the same way as the wealthy donors on the coasts do. Democrats need some of the former grouping on board to prevail.

It's not often I rate anything Larry Donnelly says highly, but his opin in TheJournal.ie this morning threw out this nugget of wisdom.

Maybe it's the case of that for many years now the Democrats have been captured by the far-left that they are totally disconnected from the average American voter on these amongst other issues and hence the results of the Trump election is a direct consequence.

Trump is dead right in what he said to the Maine Governor. Trump was dead wrong in 'how' he said it to the Maine Governor. However, I think the days of decorum in politics is long gone - it started with deplorables, quickly moved on to 'literal nazis' and yet, here we are.
