The current "Budget" proposal from the GOP sees almost $8.5T in tax cuts funded by ~$4T in cuts to Services and an increase in the budget deficit of another $4.5T.

That Budget gives 83% of the tax cuts to the top 0.1% of Tax payers.

Taking the ~165M tax payers figure , that means that the 165k that make up the 0.1% will get an average tax cut of almost $43M each!!!!! (83% of 8.5T is a little over $7T) and the other 99.9% will share the remaining ~$1.5T between them , working out at a little under $9k each.

I think those numbers are spread over 8 years , so it's more like , the 0.1% are getting ~$5M/year tax cut and the rest will get about $1100/year..

    So yeah…..you know…….MAGA!!!!!

The footage of Musk at yesterday's CPAC was unbelievable. I mean, I would have said that allusions to Idiocracy are overused, but I just watched perhaps the most powerful man in America strut onto the stage, looking like the world's most awkward rapper, and then be presented with a chainsaw a few moments later.

As for the Democrats, they're so ineffectual that it would frankly be a relief if Trump went the whole hog and just had them all rounded up, arrested on some trumped-up charges of treason, and had the party banned. If this is the way the US is going, and nobody seems able to stop it, then you might as well get it over with.

One thing it once again underlined about Musk - other than, y'know, the fact he can barely string a sentence together anymore as he's so addled - is how desperately he wants to be funny and a living meme, combined with how relentlessly, almost uniquely unfunny he actually is.

He is becoming more and more pathetic each and every time he appears in Public.

Incoherent , awkward and trying so very very hard to be "cool" but failing utterly.

Many in Nazi Germany werent entirely convinced either, but you eventually pass a threshold where you are with the Nazis, or against them.

This is the second high profile Nazi salute after Trump, so I would say it's entirely deliberate. Bannon is a hateful POS.

And all his lackies say he's pretty fly (for a white guy)

Press says he's trying to hard and he's not quite hip, but in his own mind he's - he's the dopest trip.

Lashing out on X as well, calling astronaut Andreas Mogensen "fully retarded" after he called him out on his lie that Biden intentionally abandoned two American astronauts aboard the ISS. A drug addled manchild who has more interest in insulting people online than looking after his own children.

Can’t wait to see black America practicing their Nazi salutes - one in 4 under 50 voted for this nonsense

He's also claiming that the "community notes" function needs to be fixed because it is being "gamed by Governments and legacy media".

Not because his posts keep getting fact checked for being utter bollocks.. No , definitely not for that reason , No sir!!

Either Bannon is a neo-Nazi, or he is not a neo-Nazi, but is only too happy to pander those who are with a little gesture.

U.S. military discipline obliges obedience to all lawful orders. I hope that they can stand up to what may be a very sinister move: https://edition.cnn.com/2025/02/21/politics/trump-executive-order-military-justice/index.html

I think he might have been waving at someone? Ah let's not kid ourselves.

Like Musk he knows what he is doing, and it is just disgusting.

Never thought I'd see the day of the Nazi salute "dogwhistle" to the faithful & troll of political enemies dawn in US politics.

I suppose with the WW2 vets and Holocaust survivors all pretty much under the ground, combined with the colossal ignorance of Americans, its time has come. Mad days.

Funny, you couldn't move in here the night the Mueller report was released without coming across posters claiming that it proved there was no Russian connection at all.

On that subject, the night Trump won, the place was rammed with his admirers.

Pretty few and far between now.

Almost as if they have zero knowledge or interest in politics or policy, and only came on here to gloat that "the libs" lost.

Elect a clown... Expect a circus

I think his gesture was pretty half hearted in comparison to Musks, with a resultant larger degree of deniability. Really scary times for America, and by extension the rest of the world. At what stage do other countries stop playing nicely and trying to placate Trump/Musk ? It won’t work.

The discussion here suggesting the dems dont have any strong candidates to put forward

    What is this bollocks?

A Nazi salute is a Nazi salute. There is no room for half heartedness in it. It has a very real and very dangerous meaning. It is banned in Germany for a reason.

People Bannon are very strategic, he thinks through every word he utters and every gesture he makes, your kind of analysis gives people an excuse or way out of what is a very serious and completely unacceptable thing to do.

What is mad for me is how historically things would be 'unAmerican', and called out for such. There is surely nothing more 'unAmerican' than a bloody Nazi salute.

I think the Nazi salutes are because they want people to call them Nazis, so they can tell their own supporters about how much the "left" hates them and thinks they're all Nazis. It bolsters their own support and further deepens the divide between the country. And then when you've convinced half the country that they're being unfairly called Nazis, they'll turn more of a blind eye and let you do a lot of stuff that doesn't reach the same levels death, destruction and hatred as the actual Nazis, but is still utterly repugnant and abhorrent.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,190 ✭✭✭✭J Mysterio

Can you be unfairly called a Nazi if you do Nazi things and perform Nazi salutes? I would say no.

They definitely want to hype up the rhetoric from the other side - which makes it easier for them to tell their supporters to ignore everything.

"Don't listen to them , they call us Nazis!!!"

As always , "it's the economy Stupid" - Just keep hammering away at the cuts to services , at the scale of the tax cuts and the massive disparity in the distribution of those tax reductions and so on.

Calling their leaders "Nazis" (even if they are) is unlikely to move them , but showing them their empty pocket book might..

To their followers though, yes, because so much of their support is predicated on being the victim. Trump isn't a convicted felon because he committed crimes, it's because he was unfairly targeted by corrupt DAs and judges. He's the victim! The Jan 6th rioters weren't jailed because they clearly broke the law, it was because they just wanted to show they supported Trump. They're the victims! Prices aren't going up because of global inflation, it's because of immigrants and Biden. You're the victims!

It's a complete victim mentality, and so doing obvious Nazi salutes and giving a bullsh*t excuse about it allows them to cry victim when they're called out on it. That the left will call you Nazis just for being a Trump supporter. And a lot of Trump supporters will gladly eat that sh*t up, because they need to feel like they're the victims, and Trump will save them.

If he apologised for it after realising what it looked like, yeah that would make it somewhat ok

I don't think he's made any official statement on it and I believe he may have done it more than once so that would suggest the first time may have been an unconvincing accident and he decided to continue with it when he saw the reaction

You can't give a single positive reason for hoping Trump gets a third term.

The Independent have quoted Musk as follows:

Trump ally Elon Musk also launched a blistering attack on Mr Zelensky, accusing him of running a "massive graft machine feeding off the dead bodies of Ukrainian soldiers” and claiming – contrary to polling – that “he is despised by the people of Ukraine”.

    Despicable.

This is unfortunately true - in many ways the democrats are as dysfunctional as the republicans, both the result of an utterly broken and corrupted system.

This isn't the case though. Both Obama and Biden delivered very significant legislation and managed very effectively how to navigate the shark ridden waters of both the House and Senate.

The Democrats are weak strategically (operations more so than policy) and we are seeing the effect of that right now, but all Dem Presidents in my lifetime have been pretty clear successes.

Biden was very good for Americans (despite what lies Conservative media tell), I lost all respect for him however because of his subservience to Israel and abandonment of the Palestine people but while he saw them as lesser people, many Republicans are showing us they don't see them as people at all.

I was half expecting Nic Cage to appear on stage and for them to replicate the famous fight scene from the film Mandy.

Its become quite the circus over in the US.
