There's a genius from the US on RTE news right now saying that the start of the war goes back to 2014 [Crimea] and that Americans and others putting boots on the ground back then assisting Ukraine is responsible for the war. He was replying to the RTE interviewer when she asked him about Trumps statements on the origins of the war. He's currently claiming that John Bolton is one person to blame while mentioning that Bolton is a war criminal and seems to approve of the idea that Bolton should have been hung.

Over the last ten years, we've seen the disintegration of conventional news media which came under direct attack from the likes of Steve Bannon and then actors like Trump taking the Goebbels approach that "if you repeat a lie often enough, people will believe it.". And the second part of his quote that "and you will believe it yourself." is already the case with respect to Trump.

The media haven't helped themselves with much in the US attempting to provide entertainment more so than hold people to account which divided people and Pi**ed them off in equal measure. And even the BBC allowing Laura Keunesberg to lead their political output with her clear bias has alienated a lot of people.

But beyond that, the cambridge analytica campaigns and other Russian disinformation practices have made millions of people not only hear a different narrative, but full on believe it.

In the midst of all this, print journalists have been overtaken, side lined and left in the dust by social media commentators who have started with nothing more than a few hundred $ of podcast equipment and questionable benefactors.

Trump has an acute case of Zelenskyy Derangement Syndrome, or so it would appear. It's kinda cute to see The Leader Of The Free World have a socials meltdown about the leader of a country he couldn't point out on a map. It could be a tipping point.

It's a bit scary Trump has been in the white house for about a month and in that time his lies and actions have created such danger to so many .

There is a smile a mile wide on Putins face right now.

Anyone who still supports Trump after this, you are as pathetic as he is.

Russian TV pundits must be thrilled beyond belief, knowing there is a real life 'Putin bot' in the White House, backed by other Putin bots like Musk and Vance.

But in one sense, he is doing us a big favour with his honesty. If you are pro-Trump, you are clearly pro-Putin as well, in favour of Russian territorial ambitions going forward and are in hostility to NATO. There is no ambiguity here.

What a chaotic mess we have on our hands here.

Trump has bugun these 'negotiations' in such a way that it'll almost be impossible for Europe to accept the so called 'deal' that will emerge, nevermind Ukraine. I can't see Trump's puppet master (Putin) accepting anything that Europe would be able to swallow. So there'll be no deal, and just a major rift between the US and EU and quite probably a rupture of NATO. Which is another incentive for the Russians not to make any concessions that could just about make a deal acceptable for Europe.

We are looking at a **** show of epic proportions unfolding before our eyes which will have generational consequences, and not positive ones. Well done to the voters in the US for voting him in and for failing to swiftly prosecute him after Jan 6th 2021.

Warren Buffet once said you can build up a reputation for 20 years but destroy it in 3 minutes.

Like the US Presidency cultivating a reputation for 248 years and seeing it get destroyed in three weeks.

Odious Vance now warning Zelensky not to badmouth sensitive sally trump in public. I mean it just gets more and more ridiculous. US leaving nato and joining the “Warsaw pact” a growing possibility by the day.

Yeah but he also played a round of golf with Tiger Woods and that's what really matters 👍🏻

It could be a tipping point.

To Trump going fully over to the Dark Vlad side? Can't see how it could be a positive one…

Below are a selection of Trump's fans who are in complete dismay with what Trump is doing. And what Trump is doing is exactly what he said he'd do. Into the bargain, when Trump fans were warned about this they laughed it off and told people they were just "woke", "suffering from TDS", etc. Or that they were "Communists" and "Socialists" which was even more bizarre. It would be hilarious if it wasn't so tragic that millions of these gullible fools voted for this demonstrably terrible president and his utterly obvious cronies who are only interested in destroying America's institutions and further enriching themselves on the back of ordinary citizens.

It's astonishing to think that so many people could be hoodwinked by such an obvious bad actor, even in America where, let's be honest, political "thinking" often just comes down to Team A and Team B no matter what. But Trump and his entourage are an entirely different kettle of fish altogether.

An incredibly dangerous set of events have been set in motion and it's going to be truly damaging to the most vulnerable in US society.

Completely agree with the "cause" of all this but what has happened to critical thinking or am I giving people too much credit for believing they should be able to decipher fiction from fact.

I understand some obfuscated nonsense can be difficult to weed out but simple things like the claim above about the UK having more people in prison for speech issues than Russia is just laughable.

We haven't seen reference to TDS on here since the 20th of January.

It was all those posters had up until the 5th of November, they probably realize now what the rest of us did 8 years ago.

If ever there was a show of just how weak Trump is, it’s stuff like this. Don’t hurt his feelings…

In domestic USA news, watch this space…

    https://www.thedailybeast.com/trump-signs-new-order-to-vastly-expand-his-presidential-powers/

President Donald Trump signed a landmark executive order Tuesday that would allow the White House to control independent agencies that have long operated outside of its influence.

The sweeping order, which claims to promote “Presidential supervision and control of the entire executive branch,” could affect independent agencies like the Federal Election Committee, Federal Communications Commission, Federal Trade Commission, and the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The order appears to be designed to test a once-fringe legal theory, dubbed the unitary executive theory, which holds that the president has sole control over the entire executive branch. It also reflects the growing influence of Trump’s budget chief, Russell Vought, who has long been a proponent of the unitary executive theory.

The order is sure to be swiftly met by legal challenges.

The other way, I can't imagine too many in the US are fine with appeasing Russia. But yeah, I guess the news sources we get are entirely different so it might not even register.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,728 ✭✭✭✭Tony EH

One would hope so. But it's too late now.

Unfortunately, there will remain a sizeable portion of them that will continue to keep their heads up their arses and ignore the obvious.

Even while they lose their jobs or their grants are taken away and their lives become much harder than before.

    You can't fix stupid.

but Potus had close to dictatorial powers over foreign policy, even if the vast majority totally disapproved of trumps latest line on Zelensky there would be sfa they could do…

I would think a big chunk of America knows nothing much if anything about Ukraine and it doesn't matter to the them, if Trump was able to stop the war regardless of the consequences for Ukraine or indeed Europe ,the headline would be about him being the peacemaker and the buffoons who support him would be hailing him .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,243 ✭✭✭✭extra gravy

A month...it feels like a year and I don't even live there. How the sane Americans are going to get through this with their sanity still intact is beyond me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,040 ✭✭✭✭briany

If many Americans aren't happy with appeasing Russia, they've a funny way of showing it by saying nothing.

Meanwhile, MAGA sees Russia as very much a model to copy. It's exactly the kind of leader they want Trump to be - someone who will rule the country like a tyrant and crush everyone they don't like. The Bill of Rights and US Constitution wouldn't stand a chance in the face of that kind of political dopamine.

Unbelievably, Trump still has approximately 50% approval ratings in the US. Maybe the general public over their have no understanding of Ukraine or are oblivious to how Trump is dragging the name of the US into the gutter. Over here we think that the latest Trump act of idiocy is the straw that will break the camel's back. We should have learned since 2016 that a large proportion of Americans are going to back Trump no matter what

I know the law, unlike many of the people who rush to reply to me. I didn't say the programme was illegal, I said it was sinister.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,614 ✭✭✭eightieschewbaccy

Except it doesn't sound particularly sinister. I'd actually say the white house barring the likes of AP for following press standards and not running the government propaganda line is far more sinister. Can you point to any non Trump administration where they started barring reputable news outlets? I'm

    "I know the law"

Pretty sure we have already established that you absolutely don't.

Didn't America fight a revolution to do away with things like this?

He reads like a character out of a Stephen King novel. Just a deranged villain.
