That's because of the racism, sexism and or ignorance that motivated many voters.

That isn't sour grapes. It's an objective fact how well Biden did "for" the United States. Not so well for Gaza, which did make at least some difference.

He called for them to be permanently relocated. That's ethnic cleansing, no matter how much you deny it.

Or we could suggest to him not to commit ethnic cleansing.

We can use our apple tax money to rehouse them in Ireland, that is not ethnic cleansing. He will agree to his American dollars being used to rehouse Palestinians. Win win for everyone.

Clearing a land of a people to build a new Riviera is the very definition of ethnic cleaning. You have entered a bizarre alternative reality

    Missing the point entirely.

Everyone wants the war to end , but most people don't want to hand a victory to Russia and to give Putin everything he wants.

Russia is the bad guy here and that needs to be reflected in any peace deal.

Any deal that essentially forgives Russia and allows them back into the International fold without a single penalty cannot be accepted.

We STILL haven't heard a single comment about what Russia might have to give up or what Russia might have to pay in restitution for their actions , but we do now have Trump claiming that Ukraine "started it" and looking for Ukraine to pay the costs of the war , not Russia.

    THAT's the problem.

"Ethnic cleansing is the systematic forced removal of ethnic, racial, or religious groups from a given area, with the intent of making the society ethnically homogeneous." - that's exactly what he has proposed. And it's absolutely not a win for Palestinians.

It’s not pro-war, it’s anti-appeasement. It’s clear as day that all Putin is looking for is a temporary ceasefire to give the war machine some respite and a chance for replenishment. He has no interest in long lasting peace.

And in any case, Ukraine is a sovereign country and it’s ultimately their decision. If they choose to keep fighting we should support them, if they want to go to the table to negotiate then we should also respect that decision and support them in negotiations(but thankfully Zelensky is too smart for that).

The problem I had back in the day was that I was applying my definition of "great". The MAGA definition is very, very different. All it means is cruelty to anyone who isn't a wealthy white man and tax cuts, power and influence for the establishment. MAGA exists to further the cause of techno-feudalism but somehow the rubes are satisfied with making rape victims carry their rapist's child to term.

There's a lot you can say about Trump but he operates in lockstep with his base. He knows them inside out and acts accordingly.

Like many others I have wondered what sort of weird hold Putin has over Trump. For a while it seemed like a case of Compromat (those Moscow tapes). But now I think there are two big factors.

First, Trump holds grudges like almost no-one else. Even since Zeleneskyy didn't deliver the dirt on Hunter Biden, Trump has had it in for him, especially as this attempted shakedown was the cause of Trump's first impeachment

Second, Trump seems to see Putin as some sort of role model - a strongman who bullies his neighbours and lies like hell. Trump 2.0 is alarmingly like Putin in his earlier days.

Trump IS NOT the USA. If you are convinced that he is, ask your American friends if they would let Putin do to their country whet he's done to Ukraine and just surrender to Putin, throw in the towel because Trump says its the best course of action, that defending the country is just stupid.

Trumps statement last night that Ukraine started the war is the nearest thing I've seen to the rapists claim that the victim is to blame because she wore a short skirt and halter-top making him do it. Its not unusual coming from him as he likes attacking women in the first place, from a privileged position.

The second one is the correct answer. Trump holds a grudge, sure but ultimately he worships only Mammon. Putin's Russia is the template the GOP want to emulate: autocracy with democratic trappings. I doubt Trump himself cares overmuch about banning p*rn or whatever the GOP theofascists are obsessed with but he clearly loves the idea of inflicting violence on those who oppose him.

    #MEGA MAKE EUROPE GREAT AGAIN

What can Russia give America? That’s the key question on my mind. It seems to suit Trump to have Putin back online- why? Are there deals to be made economically? If so what deals? Does McDonalds reopen in Moscow? Design brands readily available on the Russian high street again?

It’s obviously beneficial to for Trump to have Russia untethered economically - what will they trade I wonder?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,945 ✭✭✭✭Red Silurian

Indeed, I think this mornings false accusation of Ukraine starting the war is not a good sign that a peace deal will be accepted by Zelenskyy either but we will wait and see

The question of would NATO and Europe be secure without US involvement? I think the answer is yes, so let Drumpf come back with his peace plan and we will take it from there I say

the nearest thing I've seen to the rapists claim that the victim is to blame

Oh the irony of that when it comes to Trumps record with women.

Trump seems to see Putin as some sort of role model - a strongman who bullies his neighbours and lies like hell. Trump 2.0 is alarmingly like Putin in his earlier days.

What Trump likes about Putin is how he manipulates the Russian system to stay permanently in power. Trump has stated that his voters won't need to vote again and his administration is gutting the federal government to ensure that MAGA stays in power.

Trump and Musk seem to be turning the US into some form of kleptocracy and autocracy, perhaps along the lines of Russia and Belarus. Calling Trump a fascist or a dictator may well be overstating things, but they are on a very strange path at the moment for a supposed western democracy.

And what do you think the people of Gaza do with any Jews found in Gaza, were they not ethnically cleansed too?

Trump wants Gaza to be multi-cultural, for the people of the world.

A lot of the people of Gaza can come here, we stood shoulder to shoulder with them. If you want to pi*s off Trump, we could use his American tax dollars from Apple etc to rehouse them.

If you want to believe this, that's on you. Trump has openly stated on several occasions that he wants the Palestinians exterminated. He sees them as vermin and he has a long history of racism behind him. He either wants the US to own Gaza or, more likely, a co-mandate for "administering" it with Israel. The price will be another gaudy Trump building polluting it.

It only ever comes back to hate and money with him.

Have you a link to show where he said on several occasions he wants the "Palestinians exterminated"?

Sure. I'll post it once you provide evidence for every claim in your post.

And just now this has come out:

    https://www.bbc.com/news/live/c62e2158mkpt?post=asset%3A14d0912a-ab0d-4495-9b96-1a20a47407b0#post

So yea, I think Zelensky might be well aware that Donnie & Co don't really give a fiddlers about them. So with any luck this will galavanise European NATO to be good bit more independant here and support Kiev.

You even have some of Donnie's gouls suggesting that NATO won't defend a European country if attacked…which just goes to show that they don't know what NATO actually is, and that a sizable chunk of it's fighting mustle is from European nations. Naturally it is a lot stronger with the US included. But without the US, Russia still have to face an organised block of profesional militaries armed with modern weapons. They can'y even take on a former colony armed with Soviet-vintage weapons without losing nearly all of their professional army in the first months, and then losing the guts of a million conscripts and thousands of North Korean legionares.

That's not to say that the Russians aren't still dangerous. But Europe needs to collectivly pull up its boots and tell both Donnie & Putin to go forincate with themselves and get lost.

Given that Russian money was pretty much his only source of funding for several decades prior to him running for Office , Trump has deep ties to the Russian Oligarchy as do a lot of his other cronies.

It's got absolutely nothing to do with what "America" can get from Russia , it's only got to do with what Trump and his collection of wanna-be American Oligarchs can get from them.

Trump pockets loads of cash whilst publicly proclaiming that he should get the Nobel because he brought "peace" by selling the victims down the river.

A majority of the votes cast went to candidates other than Donald Trump. If you recall there were more candidates than Trump and Harris. He got a slight majority when it counted, in the swing states. Please stop lying about clear majorities, not if more than 3 million people choose someone else to vote for.

One of the military facts of the day is that a large part of the weaponry Ukraine's allies have supplied to it has been directly linked to a form of end-user clause, that Ukraine not deploy and/or use within Russia itself for OFFENSIVE purposes, but use from Ukraine territory in a DEFENSIVE manner to destroy Russian forces and allies attacking Ukraine within Ukraine.

Ukraine has been fighting with one hand tied behind its back due to the restriction because its allies fear that Putin would go nuclear, even if only with battlefield weapons, on the rest of Europe in order not to suffer defeat at the hands of his traditional enemy. Putin is now gambling on Trump splitting NATO from within so he can defeat Ukraine, it's probably the only card left in his hand now except for time.

If Ukraine felt it was now to be left alone by the other European countries which have had its back until now, left to its own devices, as it were, I don't know if it could keep to the TOC's that came with the military supplies and not go for broke. unleash a blitz on Russia itself to take out Putin, including by head of state decapitation. Trump seems determined to leave Ukraine no other option with his demand that Ukraine surrender to Putin.

Trump has capitulated to Putin , I'll make deal where Ukraine gets MOST of their country back . ??? .WTF ? . I'm convinced more than ever with his policies on Nato and Europe that Putin has videos of his reputed golden showers from Russian hookers 😁.
