Change from Analoque Sat to Digital Sat ?

I've had an analogue dish and pace box for some years. I think the LNB is 'universal' . I get mainly German channels VIVA -Music etc - less english as time goes on. NBC CNN and some selling channels selling bargain/junk offers etc. Eurosport also.

Now I know it will end soon ........

    So ;)

Could I just get a digibox ? and link it to my 80cm dish ?
Would my universal LNB still grab digital signals and send them to the receiver box ? If it were a digibox, would it get the FTA BBC stuff ? (Oh ! I know . I would have to point to a different sattelite - which might take hours of empirical testing - suck n C)

Or should I just get a SKY GUY to do it ?
I get the impression that If I subscribe to SKY ( €25.00 special deal) , I'm locked in for a year. If I do not subscribe to SKY, I pay a large initial install fee, but get a free dish n things. Is That true ?

So many questions - so little time ;) and brain cells dying all the time :o

    1. yes
    2. yes, but make sure it says universal
    3. yes, and all the BBC interactive stuff
    4. yes, u can do it yourself, sky is at 28e and the signal is POWERFUL and with 80cm it will blow your head off!!

    5. buy a sky digibox second hand, try ebay or local papers.

    6. look at dishes nearby, move dish to roughly where u think it should be and ...

7, when u have the sky box hooked up go into system settings and look at signal strength, this is a signal meter and all u do is get the lock indicator up, does this automatically, u need 2 people.

    8. Final tip, when u move dish, pause as it takes about 10 secs for the signal to hit dish and register.

    see saved u a fortune.

    Ok !
eBay sat receiver on the way :)
    My LNB is Universal :)

Bummer ! The way I've got my dish mounted (wall) does not allow a swing to 28e - max about 21 E . (Blow a hole in the wall- back of dish would make a nice feature in the bedroom !)

So I looked a Watty's multi LNB setup and it looks like I could make a bracket with a length of perforated metal strip and mount the LNB to the left (as I face the dish )
(or can you buy these ?)

Jeez ! How to measure the distance left from the existing centre LNB ?

(I already have an analogue only LNB and would have to swap them)

Could i just mount it left (and variable) , then tweak it manually while watching the screen ? (with the 10 sec. pause ?)

My dish is just above my boiler house (low) roof and i can adjust it while looking in the window at the screen. With a six pack and some patience ... who knows...

Info on multiple lnb setup as per this thread here

What make/model receiver are you getting?

    Thanks for the link.
It still seems that even if i had that fancy looking bit i still have to experimentally
set the distance at the LNB end. A bit of geometry maybe ?

the box is a PANASONIC DSB30 SKY DIGITAL DIGIBOX.

Please don't tell me it no good ;)

    Hi Anchises,
Its a good receiver, getting on in age, known as a sensitive receiver for weak signals, I have one myself. Just keep it well ventilated!!! :):):)

    Yo! :):):)

Got a dual bracket from Martin Pickering - Satcure Uk. very good value £9.50 or thereabouts. p & p is a killer , but still it's worth it.

Up and running . Yipee !!

No trouble finding Sky sat. Initially the strength bar was about 33% and no quality indication at all.
Slight elevation on the dish and WOW !

All BBC s now blasting in .................
now to find ALL the channels ........

    Thanks for your help
