Couldn't find this screen on my Inster. V2L not something I'm interested in as don't camp and powercuts are thankfully rare in Dublin.

Finally picked my Signature Tomboy Khaki last week, mine was the first Wexford reg apparently (first two actually as it was registered twice after they made a balls of the first one and had to deregister it and register it again). Apparently 12 were due for collection on the same day. Got a nice surprise when the billed price was a good bit less (four figures) that the OTR price the dealer had previously provided me by email, and the price was also less than the online configurator price. I queried it but they insisted they were right. Got a €500 service voucher thrown in as well.

Haven't driven it much but first impressions are great. A real go-kart feel to the handling and much better specced out than I thought it would be given the price. One thing I dislike is the 'creep' when lifting off the brake from a stationary position. I'm not sure if this can be permanently disabled? The settings/infotainment/UI is a pain to use as well but i'll figure it out in time. Not liking the amount of buttons that seem to be everywhere as well but I guess that's personal taste. Its been mentioned a bit, but I was still surprised about how much space is in the back seat when I sat in!

The dealer insisted the external V2L worked, and offered to sell me an adaptor for around €700 or so. Based on the above price fiasco (and the bit below re the granny cable) my conclusion is that the dealers don't have a clue and i'm still not entirely convinced that it does work. However I bought my V2L cable so i'll test this myself once it arrives. Other recent posts in this thread on V2L are encouraging though. When they were sorting my paperwork I was chatting to a young guy working there, nice fella and seemed very knowledgeable about cars in general, and he said they had tested the V2L on a speaker and it had worked.

I asked about the granny cable, based on the comments in this thread, but the dealer said it didn't come with one, only their PHEVs are sold with a granny cable. He offered to price up for me, but I wasn't bothered with it. Imagine my surprise when I opened the boot a couple of days later and a granny cable inside, alongside the other cable.

Another nice surprise was finding another small storage section under the sub boot with an air compressor for the tires included, along with the tow hook etc in a polystyrene insert (with space for a jack, but no jack included). I didn't test it yet, but I reckon the polystyrene insert could be removed to make more space and the charging cable could be stored under there, especially if its infrequently used.

Overall very very happy with it. Not pensioners. Couple mid 30s with a kid in tow. Second car is a Model Y.

There should/could be a button labelled 'Auto Hold' to stop the creep forward when the break isn't applied… It could be to the right of the steering wheel.

    Congrats!

Can I ask what error they made on the registration?

We had a similar situation with our Ioniq 5 and it took a month to resolve as I didn't notice the various typos on the VRT cert. I want to be smarter this time.

This is only temporary though, it disengages next time the car starts? I haven't tested it much yet, so could be completely wrong, but thanks for the heads up, i'll check it out.

Not 100% sure, something related to not registering it for the grant.

I think that might be a wider Hyundai offer based on car payment structure. Was given a choice between the service voucher and a Brown Thomas voucher.

On the Ioniq 5 there's a settings somewhere that lets you leave auto hold on all the time. Might be there for the Inster as well.

I just looked up the Inster manual, the 'Auto Hold' button should be on the centre console, below the climate control buttons, beside the parking camera button. One it's pressed and turned on, it shouldn't reset each time the car is turned off.

I spotted this, but i'm not sure it actually functions this way? Or more likely its user error and i'm doing something wrong! I'll double-check it again later.

Trying to swap insurance to pick mine up this afternoon and Redclick (aka Liberty) haven't got it on their system and it has "gone to underwriters to get a quote". I'm not holding out much hope of it getting done in time! I saw someone mentioned that they had insured theirs with Aviva and sure enough Aviva actually have it available in their online self service page. Hopefully my experience will at least get it onto the system for anyone else trying to use Redclick :-D

Insured with Aviva via AA. I'm still in the cooling off period so will be shopping around when I get a chance.

I've set Auto Hold on mine last Tue and it has stayed on since then.

In it for the week now, if anyone wants to know specific bits, happy to answer. Would be great to get to the bottom of V2L so I’m going to see if I can get the adapter.

It’s a brilliant car, navigating Dublin City centre and Dawson car park was so easy.

Have tested public AC charging - charging at 11kW as advertised. Very happy after my Leaf’s 3.6kW))

that would be brilliant Mark if you could just test the V2L and do a video or a short even. Someone on here might line you an adapter! 😀

    Ms

I suppose as it's only 40Euro a week for one it is very good alright

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Could you check DC charging speeds with a cold battery and also maybe after activating battery preconditioning to see if the manufacturer charging speeds can be achieved?

On the V2L, I have seen over 3.1kW output in my own Hyundai (Ioniq 6) - I would like to know if the Inster has a similar performance.

Actively considering the Inster as a second car to replace a (nearly) worn out Fiesta....

    Thanks.

Go to IKEA to grab a few bits. See can you get a loaf of bread, tub of ice cream and a canoe into the Inster 😁

I see you got the launch edition like myself. It's my first light interior car and I'm a bit worried it's going to get grubby over time so I've covered the door and boot sills with protective film I got from Amazon. I'm also planning to scotchgard the seats and fabric on the doors.

FYI, that link is no use to anyone else, as it's to something within your account and order history:

I wouldn’t overthink trying to protect the interior. It’s a cheap car that will scrub up well with a valet every couple of years. Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice to have a clean car. Your money might be better spent on a small steam cleaner if you don’t have one already.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,517 ✭✭✭MarkN

Does the price mean the owner can't take pride in something?! Come on now…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,854 ✭✭✭joe1303l

Nothing to do with the price, the fact the Inster is a cheap car is what makes it so deservedly popular. No point covering any car in protective layers though. A new car should be enjoyed, not covered in furry seat covers. A good set of OEM mats are worth having though especially if you live in rural Ireland.

Tested this again last night and all worked as described. I was just being an idiot and somehow inadvertently disabled it prior to the next drive.

That stuff is more of a liquid/dirt repellent than a physical cover though. Seat covers in cars are madness I agree unless they're for dogs etc

Did anyone try fitting a dashcam or getting one fitted professionally? Would love to hear how this worked out.

Did any of you get an update on the 15/03 shipment of Insters?

My dealer still doesn't have a VIN on their system (which would mean the car was actually manufactured) and 15/03 is only 3-4 weeks away. The dealer isn't sure they're going to be on time.
